The Jesuit Centre for Theological Reflection (JCTR) says there is need for more clarity from the government with regards its intention to sign a Statutory Instrument (SI) banning the export of maize.

JCTR Director, Fr. Leonard Chiti has told Qfm in an interview that in as much as the ban on maize exports is necessary, there is need for government to explain what has necessitated such a decision in view of earlier assurances that there was enough maize in the country.

Fr. Chiti says the Patriotic Front should stop misleading Zambians by making pronouncements contrary to the situation on the ground, which he says has become characteristic of the PF.

He adds that Zambians are left to wonder what is going on in the agriculture sector and the governance system.

Fr.Chiti further states that Zambians are beginning to get worried and cannot trust the Patriotic Front administration in view of conflicting pronouncements.

Agriculture Minister Robert Sichinga has indicated that government is expected to sign a Statutory Instrument (SI) banning maize exports to stabilize Mealie meal prices in the country.

  1. It is simply because they are lying again and in a state of panic. They argued that maize subsidized benefited the rich more than the poor. It is now embarrassing to admit a failure of the policy change.

    • Ba Chiti, I thought u are intelligent but now am beginning to doubt you.
Govt said we have enough is that a problem. It simply means we have maize to feed Zambia and not for exports. Having enough does not mean we have to start exports. remember they did not say that we have a surplus.

    • Agriculture under PF is in serious shambles. If PF does not import maize from America or South Africa next year then they should brace them selves for food riots that once led to KK regime’s demise.

Going by the current trend in mealimeal prices, it seems the price of mealimeal is going up by 100% per year. So by 2016 it will cost K210 a 25kg of breakfast. People must wake up and begin the process to boot PF out if they want things to normalise.People are dying needlessly under PF!

UPND IS THE ONLY HOPE FOR A BETTER ,FREE AND FAIR ZAMBIA.

ONLY TRIBAL PF MINIONS CAN’T SEE THAT PF HAS MESSED ZAMBIA’S ECONOMY AND PEOPLE’S LIVELIHOOD BIGTIME

      VIVA UPND!!!!!!!!

    • @ 1.1 ba Shimapalo wesu, his concern principally are the conflicting statements from PF. People are getting worried, things are not holding well somehow. We need consistent pronouncements and that is what Fr. Chiti is pointing out

  2. @ shimapalo its you who is not intelligent who can’t see that pf government has messed agriculture big time. Pf agriculture policy is upside down. Maize stock in zambia is not enough wait for few months to prove me right when they will be short of mealie meal

  3. The JCTR has proved its intellectual capacity and is asking several analytical questions which this PF govt cannot comprehend. The questions are met with insults from govt ministers, a clear sign that they don’t have answers and would like whoever is asking to shut up – a tactic used by kaponyas. The other day Kapeya contrived to call the JCTR liers instead of addressing the pertinent issues raised.

  4. That is what is known as strategic planning in Management. Please concentrate on fighting for the rights of everyone sinner or saint, straight or homo like the Holy Father in Rome is preaching.

  5. You guys ask us who are farmers and traders…..GRZ is right there is enough maize to feed Zambians up to the next harvest. Traders, Millers and Farmers have a lot of Maize and if they are not careful with the ban on the exports , they will have huge carry over stock by April. Just wait for Mach , the mealie meal price will start declining.

Peace and Prosperity to Mother Zambia.

  6. @Wanzelu

“UPND IS THE ONLY HOPE FOR A BETTER, FREE AND FAIR ZAMBIA!”

Do you reckon UPDN will get the vote from their air conditioned offices OR through theoretic?

Come on Bwana @wanzelu, get up and put yourself on the the campaign trail for your man. Otherwise he will cry, come 2016. The Mansa bye-elections were a wake up call.

    • “Only hope” reeks of a one party state mentality. Or dogmatism. Democrats do not restrict options to only one solution in such a big world.

  7. Stoopid question. Possible answers: 1 It’s exactly because we have enough maize and we don’t want to have less. 2 Enough but not enough to export. 3 When you have enough do you become reckless with what you have. 4 Enough isn’t the same as more than enough etc etc.

  8. No wonder is a father without a child. If you have enough does not mean start throwing away. Me I have stock to last me up to may/june.you are telling a should start selling just becouse I will start harvesting around april? The bird in hand is worth two in the bush.
