Opposition United Party for National Development(UPND) has disputed Media reports that the party is courting former opposition Movement for Multiparty Democracy(MMD) former Solwezi Central MP Lucky Mulusa for the fourth coming Solwezi Central parliamentary by election.
Party Deputy Secretary General Winston Chibwe said UPND has never even a single day discussed the issue of picking Mr Mulusa as their candidate for Solwezi Central by election slated for February 25, 2014.
He said that his party has not even started screening candidates to adopt during the Solwezi Central, Mkushi South and Katuba parliamentary by elections.
ZANIS reports that the opposition Party Deputy Secretary Generalsaid this in an interview in Lusaka, today.
Mr Chibwe said there is no way the UPND can adopt someone belonging to another party when the party has a lot of credible candidates within Solwezi to adopt.
He stated that the UPND will next week start the process of adopting the three candidates who will be easy to sell to the electorates.
Mr Chibwe hinted that the UPND is confident of scooping the three parliamentary seats come February 25, 2014.
He expressed that Zambians have now realised that it is only the UPND which is able to bring development for the benefit of the Zambian people.
He said warned the people of Solwezi Central, Mkushi South and Katuba constituency not to make a mistake by ushering in a wrong candidate who won’t be able to bring development.
The MMD today said it will adopt Lucky Mulusa and Sydney Chisanga to recontest Solwezi Central and Mkushi South parliamentary seats they lost through election nullifications.
And the UPND is courting Jonas Shakafuswa for the Katuba by-election slated for February 25.
The Solwezi Central and Mkushi South parliamentary seats fell vacant after the Supreme Court nullified the election of Mulusa and Chisanga respectively, on account of electoral malpractices; while the Katuba seat fell vacant after the death of area member of parliament Dr Patrick Chikusu last December.

Please UPND get clarity from the electoral commission and the supreme court as to what exactly amounts to electoral fraud and the time frame within which any donations to churches or local organisations are classified as voter inducement.
Also ask the supreme court and the electoral commission to vet these candidates so that PF should not cry foul when they loose. Now that you know their silly tactics they use to nullify seats, act proactively so you pre-empty any schemes that PF can possibly use to dispute the forth coming elections.

its very dificult to know the truth between upnd and the media.when dora’s seat was nulified,the media claimed that upnd was poaching dora which wasnt true.but also upnd has had a history of poaching mmd candidates e.g maxel mwale,the loser for kapiri,canisius banda and the other one they won in western province was poached from mmd.

In my own opinion Mulusa deserves another chance in parliament. Out of the 12 MPs that the province had send to parliament only Mulusa was seen on top of presenting, protecting and negotiating the interest and welfare of North-Westerners. The rest went their to eat like my grandy Mukombwe would put.
The truth is that we had enough of MMD and we need a breath.My appeal to the people of North Western instead of dividing our small number of votes,let us all rally behind UPND candidate and forget about PF and MMD.

Look at the Solwezi Chingola road and not even as single road under the link Zambia will be constructed this year and no single district has received any tarring of township roads.Lumwana Hospital which was finished by MMD upto now not yet commissioned.

Mr Mulusa is better off joining the winning team of UPND. The MMD failed us for 20 years. They were just as bad as PF. Even the constitution we are talking about they failed to deliver in 20 years. You think they will deliver it in future? They are just missing living that arrogant life and think Zambians are foolish enough to give them power agin so soon. No recycling anymore. we need fresh blood, fresh ideas now. Northwestern province is a stronghold of UPND. He was just lucky that the MMD was in power that he managed to win that seat. Given that UPND candidate will get a lot of votes, he may end up losing because PF will also get some good numbers =because of encumbency.

Mr. Mulusa is a very good candidate for the area. He is articulate, intelligent, interactive and honest person he has represented his constituency and province and Zambia very well I could vote for him if I was given a chance. if we had such caliber Hon MP in the National Assembly Zambia could have developed faster.
