The Zambia Electricity Supply and Corporation (ZESCO) has charged that no life will be lost as a result of power interruption.
ZESCO spokesperson Henry Kapata said the company is committed to ensure that all lives are protected and that no has died due to power related incidences.
Mr Kapata’s remarks comes after allegations that Ireen Jimba who was pregnant is said to have died at Loloma Mission Hospital in Kabompo due to a ZESCO power failure while undergoing an emergency caesarean operation.
Mr Kapata told ZANIS in an interview in Lusaka today that ZESCO attaches great importance to hospital power emergencies in all the health centres across the country.
He said ZESCO cares for everyone’s life adding that the company has remained committed to respond to power emergency calls from all health institutions in the country beyond its operating limits.
After the death of the woman, scores of Manyinga residents had expressed sadness to ZANIS over the alleged death of a 41 year old woman.
And Hospital authorities at Loloma Mission also confirmed that the woman did not die due to ZESCO power failure at the hospital.
Sister in Charge Marrian Ronald and Relief Doctor Mcmmon Richard told ZANIS that Jimba successfully delivered a baby but only died of high blood pressure and not the earlier alleged power failure.
Meanwhile, Mr Kapata has disclosed that the company is this year embarking on the construction $140 million dollars power project.
Mr Kapata said the project will involve putting up a 800 kilometre 132 transmission lines, a 330/132 kilo volts substation and a 132/33 kv substation in Mwinilunga,Kabombo, Mufumbwe, Zambezi, Lukulu and Chavuma districts of North-Western province.
Mr Kapata said this is in bid to improve the power supply in North- Western province which will lead to an increased access to electricity and improved quality of service by displacing the existing diesel generators.
He said the survey is in progress and main works for the construction adding that works will be tendered within the course of this year.

Every health institution where such life saving operations are done should have emergency diesel power generators to keep the critical areas of the hospital going in case of the popular power cuts. If our govt really cares about us, they would have done some about this but what do they care when they shamelessly go outside the country for medical treatment. One wonders why we even vote for them to run the country when they can’t even run let alone have a health care system. I wish my countrymen could sue the hospitals for negligence in some of the cases.
The white doctors were severely warned and cautioned against telling the truth. ZESCO was at fault. “Shut up and Stop making us look bad or else…” Is what the shu shu shu’s told them!
They have no choice but to take power to NWP because of its huge reserves of oil, natural gas and solid minerals which this country needs to survive. Reality has now dawned, no NWP no life.
