Minister of Finance Alexander Chikwanda has told Parliament that Government has saved K5.5 billion following the removal of subsidies on fuel, maize and fertiliser.

Mr Chikwanda was responding to a written question by Senga Hill MP (MMD) Kapembwa Simbao who wanted to know how much money Government has saved from the removal of subsidies.

“The Patriotic Front government believes that investing public resources in tangible projects that promote sustainable livelihoods and take people out of the poverty cycle is the most effective way of mitigating our people from economic dislocationsm including the removal of subsidies,” he said.

Mr Chikwanda explained that the money saved as a result of the removal of subsidies has been channelled to health, education and other social sectors.

He allayed fears that the removal of the subsidies would create food insecurity.

But Mafinga MP (MMD) Catherine Namugala said the removal of subsidies on maize would make mealie-meal prices go up resulting in hunger.

  1. Hypocrisy, just last week A.K.Chikwanda said that they have NOT saved any from the removal of subsidies.
These PF cadres are a joke to the country.

    • # Skeleton,
The joke is on you. This money is not saved as cold hard cash, but the equivalent value has been made available or set loose by the removal of subsidies.

The minister was at that time addressing a different audience and now he is addressing another allegedly better informed audience who are less likely to misconstrue or misinterpret the answer he provides. The answer has not changed.

But guess what? – your level of intelligence has changed for the worse. Stop being a simpleton i.e. some one who takes every word literary. There – I have added one more word to your very poor vocabulary. I don’t expect any thanks given your levels of buffoonery.

    • @ Mulenga and Jelita
In a plain English, Hon. Minister has appropriate misleading answer for any occasion?
Sucker, do you know how financial resources are allocated?
Your friend has been shifting expenditure at leisure and pleasure without any accountability and misleading fellow MP’s “intelligently”.
Lastly, why need to insult? Because you are more “intelligent”?

    • I also still remember. these guys were saying they havent anything from the subsidies. do we have leaders in zambia? today one says this, the other day someone says something different on the same subject.

    • Mulenga and Jelita,
Shut your eyes wide open and let your mouth numb so that us, who live in reality can be accorded the platform. Wake up from your slumber and be part of us, of which 63% of the Zambian population DID NOT vote for PF cadres.
      On 28-01-14, at Qfm news, Mr Chikwanda said, quote;
      “We are not saving money”.
      What Hypocrisy!
I’m critical like many others who want ACCOUNTABILITY to the PF phantasmagorias’. It seems you were born yesterday because there is empirical evidence during UNIP dictatorial reign of KK, Chikwanda with the same portfolio catastrophically put the country into intoxicated recession. Scott has been consistent that it’s hard to teach old dogs new tricks.
Born yesterday, drunk with CHIBUKU and today you refute because of a borrowed empty MOSI…

    • to assume that the audience chikwanda was reponding to earlier on is not as well informed as the cadres in parliament is just plain insulting and annoying.chinkwanda has a duty to give correct answers to the nation every time and all the without him or you for that matter making silly assumptions on how well informed or educated the audience is.
history has repeatetdly shown that such assumptions are the mother of all screw-ups

    • Mulenga and Jelita,
      Ref: Continued.
…bottle in your juvenile hands. How foolish of you to even say that “different audience”. It doesn’t grant you PF bootlickers’ to lie to the Zambian people, which started with your 90 days syndrome. Repeating the same mistake hoping for a different results is being stupid, you PF cadres. Your illusions with land you in Chainama if unchecked, real soon. I was an audience to ABCs hypocrisy on Qfm and today, Iam.
You ignorance and primitivism won’t take you anywhere and be informed that Saving is NOT spending period. National Assembly coffers have ran dry due to PFs unnecessary by elections and never ending shuffling ministers /Ps like clothes is disorganization. The people shall hold all you PF morons, accountable for squandering public funds…

    • Mulenga and Jelita,
Finally, people like ABC will go, their children shall remain and their future is jeopardy by your over borrowing without investments for the country as a whole. Busy holding money in your PF bedroom accounts on the expense of poor Zambians. Rhetorical indeed.
I’m non partisan, therefore, I stand firm with the objective and critical issue raised above. After increasing their salaries, PF has fired nurses whilst them, masquerade in foreign hospitals leaving UTH oxygen free.
No subsidies but you’re still borrowing. IMF, World Bank and many more institutions are eagerly awaiting for PF to pay back their massive debts.
Wake up and stop your drunk dreams, realistically, PF has lambently failed. Wondering when you can grow up and live reality?

  2. These P.F Clowns NEVER tell the truth, contradict themselves on a daily basis, in short – THEY HAVE FAILED TO DELIVER & RUN ZAMBIA!!
Worst government since independence. I’m sure the reason they contradicted themselves last week, was they were still dividing the savings among’st themselves, before finally declaring whats left over to us “The daft Zambians”.
Same situation as informing us, G.B.M, did NOT commit any corrupt act in “The Zesco Pole saga” to then changing, ” We are investigating G.B.M, for corruption”
Recycled politicians. Your day in court WILL surely come.

    • You have small brains please read from Mulenga and Jelita. You surely do not understand the economics and the way government operates hence please keep your ignorance to yourself.

    • its pointless to debate with people who dont understand that if you have five oranges and take away 3 and give to mulenga you eat two and mulenga eats 3 ther is no real saving but sharing and reallocation.. its simple school math. if one cant understand that it will be more complex to understand what Chikwanda said..

    • @Pio 2.1, & Matrix 2.2, It worries me that the calibre of people like You who claim to “Have Brains” are likely to run our country in future.
Anywhere else, including countries where You Guys currently reside, NO one would allow You to be in charge of, & manage a “Public Toilet”
Why did this Dull minister, who bankrupted Zambia in the past, Not tell people when asked, I cannot give a statement now, but will do so once I have all the information ready??
The flip flopping of P.F Officials is so mind boggling, in a developed nation, Chikwanda would be instructed to step down.
You two behave like the” Two Stooges”, & I bet You won’t give a rational account why G.B.M, was Not corrupt while part of ” Coven of Crooks”, but is now since leaving their Mafia protection?

  3. It is a known fact that sustaining a lie needs a better lie, so difficult for eroded brains. It is just few weeks ago when this same Baboon told Parliament that Govt has NOT saved anything from subsidy removal. SHAMELESS LAIRS. MAY GOD SAVE OUR COUNTRY FROM CNP AND PAYA FARMER

    • Zambians must not even mention God when they are facing up to the ills of their own choices. God cannot rescue one from his own desires! It was out of choice that the majority of Zambians voted for the PF. So, live with it! Vote wisely next time.

  4. Ati the money was channeled to Health, yet last year under PF was our waste year in terms of funding since UNIP times, some districts which run as much as 20 clinics were not funded for 4 to 5 months. Where did this money which was even budgeted for go?

  5. The simple truth is Zambians either don’t read or ubukopo bwalichila or is it partisan blind folding. The roads, bridges, universities etc coming up, where do you think money is coming from? Yaba. . Simpletons indeed.

  6. Is it important to even read this man’s comments, it was just a few weeks ago when he told the nation that there was no money being saved by removal of subsidies. What kind of leaders are these other than being ba yama or shikulus draining the nation by getting paid for doing nothing.

  7. There is no credibility in what he says now, after what he said earlier on, on the same subject. Unless the statement is audited and confirmed by independent auditors; don’t accept it as gospel truth – may just be a knee-jerk reaction, after realising the implication of his earlier statement. Honestly, who can believe this nonsense now?

  8. this man’s memory must be doubted..what did he say last month..?that there’s no money saved..?kekekek..yaba..old age..

  9. Chikwanda needs to step down simple.if Sata really wants to win 2016 he needs
To fire this scum bag, lies catching up with him, if you saved why do we keep hearing
About loans, projects being delayed because of non payment, prices going up, lying
About spending on health , education and social, when hospitals , schools are still in
Terrible conditions, maybe if we say they are enriching themselves, where are the figures and really how much was spent minus loans, grants, donations. Saving is useless with this Minister of unbudgeted expenditure,

  10. What is wrong with the minister of finance is he suffering from memory lapse ? A week ago he said that there was no saving that was made from removal of subsidy & now he is telling us that actually the government saved billions of kwacha. Unbelievable.

  11. Mulenga and Jelita,
Ref: Continuation Part 2…bottle in your juvenile hands.
The people shall hold all you PF morons, accountable for squandering public funds.

  12. Common LT, please, let me politically express my feelings as a citizen of the world and swiftly bypass the moderation status.
I have not and never used colloquial language to anybody but purely calling a spade a spade. Mulenga and Jelita together with his fellow PF cadres must have a reality outlook of what is happening on the ground and not supporting hypocrites of politics.
    Thanks in anticipation.
