Opposition political parties have vowed to go ahead with the planned countrywide mass demonstrations to pressure Government for the release of the Constitution despite police warning of action against such protests.
The United Party for National (UPND), the MMD as well as other political parties and the civil society plan to embark on countrywide mass demonstration over the Constitution making process without permission from the police.
But Deputy Inspector General of Police Solomon Jere has warned that political leaders who plan to cause anarchy over the Constitution will face the wrath of the law.
However, MMD leader Nevers Mumba said in an interview that he was ready to face the wrath of the law in order to defend the liberty and the freedom of the Zambian people as enshrined in Constitution.
Dr Mumba said as an opposition leader, whose role was to provide checks and balances to the ruling party, he was not scared to face the wrath of law in his quest to defend the liberty and freedom of the Zambian people.
He said police officers should not tell opposition political parties what freedom was because they had the right to demand for a people driven Constitution.
Dr Mumba advised the police service to desist from intimidating political parties on issues of the constitution.
“Police officers should not tell us what freedom is, they should stay away from intimidating political parties on issues of constitution, we are not scared to face the wrath of the law in our quest to defend the liberty and freedom of the Zambian people,” he said.
And Alliance for Better Zambia (ABZ) president Father Frank Bwalya said the police would be breaking the law by blocking political parties and other stakeholders from demonstrating.
Father Bwalya said it would be a violation of human rights for police officers to block citizens from demonstrating to demand for a people driven constitution.
Meanwhile, opposition United Liberal Party (ULP) President Sakwiba Sikota has reiterated the need for the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) to realize that the constitutional making process is not for government alone.
In an interview to express his view on the rejection of the constitutional motion by Parliament on Tuesday, the 11th of March, Mr. Sikota has told the media that his party still holds the position that the PF government owes the people of Zambia a new constitution.
Mr. Sikota said the fact that the constitution is not for government alone but for all Zambians is basis enough for the demand for a new constitution not to be something that should make people in the country to start fighting each other.
The ULP leader said that the new constitution is something that should instead bring joy to all people in the country.
The opposition leader has emphasized that this is why the PF government should step up to the plate and do what is right.
He said that the right thing to do at this end is for the government to follow what is being discussed by everybody on the country’s new constitution.
ba opposition this is not the way to go, let us not deteriorate into anarchy, disorder and lawlessness.
Lets continue country men and women and lets get that which belongs to us. One think chi sat and hin ass-licking hyenas should know that Zambia does not belong to pf. Solomon Jere and your pf police be reminded that you will face the music when we take you out of power soon. Remember, ruling governments come and go, but Zambia shall remain. Got that!!!! 1diots!!!
Kudos,
This is what you wanted ma men, supporting wrongs thru-out.
Unfortunately this is the only strategy these muppets have which will also cause their downfall
the likes of Hallucinating Herder (HH) and this failed pastor are setting a very bad precedent in pretending to fight for the “liberties of the masses” while secretly looking for the presidency of zambia. Ka Nevers and ka (HH) let me tell you this, zambia is not ukraine and your crafty machinations will not make the peaceful citizens of Zambia rise up in arms against a democratically elected, hardworking leadership. you think we dont know your gimmicks? you even have the guts to say “ready to face the wrath of the law in order to defend the liberty and the freedom of the Zambian people as enshrined in Constitution”
Arent you now referring to the existing and functional constitution? who do you charlatans think you are?
Constitution!
@Kudos, you might be advising from experience you got where you are. You even kept a trophy of skull, you savage, may ghosts torment you for ever.
@Kudo
help me understand bro, what is it which is freaking the heck out of your PF about this draft constiitution,,, if your PF is as popular (doing all the `good` road construction) as its been claimed,, then bring whatever constitution 50+1 clause or even 70+1 clause with or without the running mate clause,,, your `popular` PF should be able to beat anyone hands down from presidency to the last ward… unless or otherwise your PF is not popular and your Sata is not cutting in his presidency
We tried parliament and yo party, which way is available wen u ve failed 2 give a roadmap. Constitution affects all of us pf and non pf. Can we just be Zambians on this matter of constitution.
If the police are becoming stupid we shall raise our own militia to counter their f.o.olish actions. And it will soon be the people verses the police . For sure the people will win.
You PF zealots should know that even within the armed forces there are people who are not happy with the PF at all. I know this from talking to my friends in the armed forces. Most of them are saying they can’t wait for 2016 to get rid of Sata so they can again enjoy being the police and the army for all and not stupid for Sata.
Somebody please teargas ZP!
sometimes when I sit alone and reflect, what is sata thinking or he is not even thinking? people are crying they want their constitution but he pretends he has not head anything. is this being normal?
Folks the demands during the demonstration will be;
1. New constitution.
2. Stop police intimidation and brutality.
3.Fair justice.
4.Cheap Fuel
5.Cheap meali-meal
6.Stronger Kwacha
7. Jobs for youth.
8.Stop corruption.
Please add some more on the list.
Viva opposition.
@Wenzulu
This is a typical example of how to lose an argument, you only take one or two arguments and run with it.
1. New constitution.
2. Stop police intimidation and brutality.
@kudos,those are the exact words sata said to our freedom fighters in 1960,thank God his advice fail on deaf ears.u are on the wrong side of good history.
Why not if it’s gonna be a peaceful protest!
A promise is a promise!
PF started the process and has spent huge sums of money on the technical committee!
It is therefore fraudulent behaviour for PF and dangerous wishful thinking if they hope Zambian will let them off the hook!
Don’t we have brains left in PF to tell their now m.a.d president?
Kudos, Gen., and others….
You are conspicuously quiet on ZWD’s coverage of the UPND tour of Eastern province and the attitude of the police!! The HH you insult, demonize and mock maliciously is the same one touring Eastern province. Or are you already thinking of defecting to UPND? Do not becoz the ruling PF is still in power and infact could still remain a force in 2016, looking at the attractiveness of theprojects they are pursuing – roads and schools. Which villager would not like the nearest road to the boma (district centre) well maintained or the muddy roads in Kuomboka and Chawama paved? The 2 major weakness of the PF are (1) to admit that they did not mean what they promised during campaigns leading to 2011 gen. elections; and (2) persecuting the opposition. I rest my case
we no longer have police but a Jere in place who is PF cadre. Jere, you are two years away from being jobless, sharpen your signing skills as you will leave of selling CDs to PF supporters.
But Zoona you have no brains in your skull. Is it a crime for HH and Never to aspire for plot one? Is Zambia not a democracy. By the way which anarchy are you talking about? Typical Bemba f.o.o.l!
Have you seen that title on muvi TV. “Potholes Resurface on Uphazardly Patched Dag Hammarskjöld Road”. How can council give false excuse that the potholes after the patching up of the road is because of rains and early opening up of the road to motorists. It rains in Australia everyday, but roads are worked on every time. All it takes is some hours of dry weather. They can work on the road on one lane and open another lane. Afterwards, they will open up the lane they were working on on after an hour or two and motorist can start driving on it. Council should learn technology of tarring roads.
For political parties, you have my support to demonstrate.
my friends you talking to these PF retards who think that putting on an expensive suit, driving an expensive car (from stolen money) driving through a massively potholed road drainage full of all sorts of gabage is okay and in their eyes its called development
what is the purpose of that? the most civilised way was to take the issue to parliament which was rejected by the pipo’s representatives. it is true that foolish politicians hv hidden programs for this nation. take ur time, 2016 we shal giv u a vote and see what u wl do.
Faka pressure!
1diots!!!
Sata and his pf should not play with fire. “Umweo wa muntu waba mu matwi”. Zambians are peaceful people but when pushed, they explode. Sata should just do the right thing, and when time comes for him to leave state house, he will leave with dignity. There is still time for him to do the right thing. He should not listen to use.less people like Kabimba and Mumembe. These so-called cartel, their end will be painful.
Chindiks is better than ponks! I hope Nevers and the other party leaders will lead from the front instead of using clueless thugs for hire
Muvi TV have become useless. They’re a news media and now they put their little videos on private. What are they expecting to achieve when people can’t access them.
If Mr. Sata still has any pulse in him, he will do well to adhere to the demands of the public and release the constitution to them. Scottish Scott should not think that he will be able to walk away from this scot free either. These guys are too old to start playing with fire like this. Do they want to see human life sacrificed? Must they not be held accountable, should that happen?
Someone ought to remind Mr. Sata that Zambia is not his personal property and that no Zambian should lose his or her life over the constitution.
@Mei Matungu which public? If upnd cadres re demanding a new constitution be specific and not generalize. Ifwe ni status quo chabe.
Zambians really get mad when enough is enough!
All docility and fear suddenly gives way to vigilance and courage and will stop at nothing but to get rid of the obstacle (PF is next).
Having said that, PF leaders are just too stiff necked to listen and change course!
The hour has come for them also to go the way of UNIP and MMD!
UTH prepare bed floors for banchintomfwa. Let HH and NM’s children be in the forefront of the demon-stration.
For me its not necesary for these demonstrations. Such demonstrations are likely to cause confussion and blood shed because of too much excitements plus influence of demons as people demonstrate. These are politics of hate and backwardness .Worse still, politicians use youths while Nevers,HH and F.Bwalya are taking coffe in their homes hoping for Zambia to be another Ukraine or Tunisia. I hope the police will do the best to ensure that all is well.If anything, its time to pray.Nevers is a pastor,HH is an elder,Franc Bwalya is a father,Milupi is a priest, then why do they want to bring confussion when its not neccesary. Please spare my country.I always miss Zamiba but not in this way.Things may not be alright with PF but remember, the devil is using demonstrations world-over to cause trouble.
@UMWAUME, if you live in the USA as your flag suggests, then I do not understand where you are coming from. If you genuinely care about mother Zambia, then how come you have not found it in you to questioned the root cause of this problem, i.e. Why is PF Govt not doing what it promised to do w.r.t. the new people driven constitution? If Obama was to do what Sata is doing, do you seriously believe the Republicans (opposition) would meekly go down their knees in prayer and that it? Don’t you think out of sheer patriotism, the entire US, including well meaning fellow Democrats, would seriously question Obama’s sincerity for back-peddling on his promises? Do you think about implications of Sata’s behaviour to future Zambian generations which include your children, and grand-children?
Umwaume…….
So you believe that the devil is bad? Since when did you ever think HH was human enough or let alone pray? Why would there be blood shed if people demonstrate? Were you still a baby in 1991 when this country witnessed massive demonstrations and rallies which even civil servants joined during working hourse and no one was fired for it? Yet that was One Party rule. You seem to be so scared of democracy. Your comparison of Syria and Ukraine is far fetched. The situations are so different. We have multipartism here and we love it while you want us to go back into the dungeons of dictatorship. Even the PF do not like what you stand for. You are embarrassing them. They have no intentions of shooting people for asking their government for a roadmap. A ROAD MAP ONLY. NJILA CHABE
janza kumbele and nostrodamus, ndobo the pf is not holding the constitution from us. they volunteered to start this process and they will finish it. what we dont need is a few selfish agitators like the bantustan cattle herder (HH) and his failure of a pastor friend nevers, inciting youths who could easily die in a fracas like the 76 ukraineans. meanwhile the instigators will be watching from the sidelines hoping for youths to wipe each other out and overthrow a “perceived dictator”. let me ask UPND sycophants, how can you have a dictator in a democracy?
@Kudos….don’t you ever getting tired of regurgitating your own verbal diarrhea and sipping it down again. Your views are archaic, terribly misinformed, lop-sided, biased and generally so confrontational that you actually contradict yourself and generally never offer a solution that isn’t dissolved in hatred and finger pointing. You are a rubbish example of whatever you support,” You a completally usilessi”
kudo or kudus yu are a fool .even a smoll boy can read on the wall. Its cleary writen PF is going.Stop dreaming the Cow Bow HH is giving yu sleepless nights.
Kudos….
Anyone who grew up in the rural ares of Southern, Western, North Western, Eastern, Central and parts of Muchina and parts of Copperbelt herded cattle, goats (some sheep too) at one time in their lives and some still do. Which Party and President do you speak for so that we avoid them like smallpox since we cattle herders full of matubi a ngombe in our heads are no good to them? Really, your language is so insensitive. It is this type of language that can cause violence and not genuine Zambians asking their government to give them a roadmap (njila, nzila, path to) to something as noble as a constitution. I think you should stop your insults. I hope you are not PF the ruling party because they do not deserve to have such reckless characters like you.
Nevers mumba never cease to amuse me, just recently he was pleading with the court not to send him to jail. Today, he is daring the police. why cant we wait for 2016 and do the needful? let Pf finish their term. Short cuts wont do you any good
Ichi chi sata chizavuta mwe tipase chabe constitution iwe ata utiona mongandise bana bako ise kuti ukazitinama so
Bakapokola baka miponona ngamwatampa amano yakutumpa. March for what ? Just wait for your time?
Our students at UNZA are not like their friends who can put their Labs to good use.
Why should they always allow Buju to tear gas them all the time?
Don’t they know how to mix chemicals?
Kill ’em!
Give your address, just in case
Kill them!
kill them yu are dum corward.why mention HH if he is nothing.pipo like yu should never exist in Zambia, because yu die hard tribalists and witches.yu dont believe in democracy.
It is as if people even follow the current constitution! Eish! Zedians are just fickle when they find some cookie to scramble for… it will soon crumble, proverbially and they will be looking for a new bake to break.
Who is not following current Constitution?
Police, Government or the People?
Iwe ka @Kal, don’t you see this PF has robbed the tax payer through the Constitution making process they faked? What is so Fickle about making criminals to account for what they have stollen? Is it a small thing that money is wasted like this and lives are lost on bad roads, at home, in hospitals, shortage of essential medicines and now rationing of ARVs? The seers have already foretold the coming of this revolution and there is nothing anyone will do about it. If it means destroying whatever we have invested in, let it be. We can always start afresh!
Mass demonstrations are accepted and understood in civilized democracies not in a dictatorship currently prevailing in Zambia where the authorities are ruthless.
I would advise the opposition not to take to the streets because they will be massacred in large numbers by the PF police while the leaders be enjoying their daily three-square meals in comfort.
The opposition should continue putting on pressure at any given opportunity but avoid public demos.
Let the PF reveal their evil side ! All eyes will focus on little butterfly Zambia ! And let us see whether the PF will continue with their dictactor-ship you Moron ! You think Sata can just kill innocent people and just go ahead with his rule as if nothing has happened ??? You must be really arrogant and stupid !! All the mercenaries out there will be offering free services just to free the Zambian people from his dictatorial iron fist !!!
Peaceful demos shud not make pipo in govmt jittery.I personaly support whoever is going 2 b out there 2 demostrate. But it shud not degenerate in2 anarchy everthing must b done within the law.
And pipo agitating 4 this cause must make sure 2 b physicaly present when the action starts.
That said, this government must remember that the pipo of zambia nids a new constitution b4 2016.
The opposition are clearly on a war path. The government should stop this before it escalates by either giving in to their demands or the police should deal with them with a very strong hand.
Demanding fundamental right of demonstrating is a “war path”?
How stupid and ignorant you can be?
142. Even you, are on war path because you are always insulting and mocking anyone with a different opinion from yours whilst cowardly hiding behind a computer. You even insult the republican president when you know that it is illegal according to our constitution. You are also a tribal bigot. The government has clearly stated in parliament that they are committed to the constitution making process. As a matter of fact they started it without anyone pushing them. So, tone down, Mr!
It funny how the will of the people is blamed on the opposition isn’t it spartan?
@spartan, dont even mention about the police. Once people reach a point of no-thinking, not even the pf police will do anything. They will only join in the revolution. Mark my words, the pf will go earlier than they came. It will be the first party to have ruled the shortest time.
Ka spartan iwe, are you scared of losing the ka small house you are building out of stollen PF money? We are going to make sure that all who have amassed what they think is wealth through dubious means should lose it and themselves to be fed to hungry lions! The Police is not the only force available! Watch it!
Dim Wit. I am not scared of anything. Just because you are thief, you everyone is thief, and just because you are a mindless cadre, you think everyone is. You can follow my IP address and check all my contributions on this blog and you will see that they are aimed at encouraging Zambians in one way or the other unlike you who is always insulting and inciting tribal hatred and encouraging anarchy and violence. One day you may get what you are wishing for-violence. I hope the relevant security wings are doing the profiling of all the instigators of violence just in case it happens. I hope you are covering your tracks.
I’ve always said civility shall go to the dogs on that day,
We shall clean up our country,
Wailing shall echo in the corners of the world
Their immediate families shall be history in a day!
That shall be commemorated as the day of ‘fear and respect’!
The people-driven constitution is wanted asap ! Especially the 50+1 and running-mate clauses…with or without Sata & its PF! They are traitors !
Public office holders (police chiefs included) shall learn from treason case presently torturing Musharaf of Pakistan. He broke the law of the land, fired supreme court judges and see where he is today? Police shall remain professional and refuse to follow illegal instructions from anybody. it is written all over that PF will be gone and most of its MPs and appointees will go behind the bars. Forewarned. Act professionally and still better resign and leave the sinking boat.
Where’s Mushota? Just when I thought she had started making sense. …
She just got married and has no time to be online! The man is really keeping her busy.
Coward ***** he never fot for independence of zambia, he ran away on 24 October. A relative in unip pleaded for his return. So u can see the fear in his head is antagonistic and acrimonious behaviour. Only Civil Disobedience is the solution in Zambia.
Brain dead opposition think tanks will buy chibuku and give it to the hapless youths to go and stir the pombozi nest. When they receive the shot button, the brain dead leaders will quickly call a press conference calling for such to intervene. Brain dead indeed.
Keep on dreaming.
Please differentiate between opposition and fed up Zambians.
You fuel will be going up in a matter of days, you interest rates will sky-rocket, money will again go into hiding, the private sector will be squeezed hard by the IDC/INDECO parastatals, your taxes will never come down. If you have the luxury of leaving the country whenever it gets hot, remember to look beyond your selfishness and consider the plight of the orphan and the widow out there. What PF has created is a very unjust society where no values exist except that of greed, selfishness, tribalism, nepotism, corruption, debauchery, lasciviousness, murder, etc. what we want is a just society and Zambians will see to it that justice is done in the land!
Ichikupempula Ichikulya and Albert Chinyama…….
Do not kill our people for asking their government to give Zambians a roadmap. Your minds seem so set to see blood of innocent Zambians. Just because they differ in opinion with PF you want to use Zambian policemen and women to gun down their sons, daughters, sisters and brothers, mothers —–to teach the opposition a lesson? Who are opposition? These are legitimate legal political entities representing the voice of more than 60% of Zambians who voted and did not vote in 2011. Which law will they break to deserve death? The Public Order Act does not outlaw orderly demonstrations. It does not authorise Police to bar assembly and expression? Which law are you going to use to open fire with machine guns??
As much as we want the constitution, we don’t want lawlessness in our beloved country. There are better ways of dealing with this, for Instance the “BALLOT” not the “BULLET ”
Unfortunately, Peaceful demonstration always turns into violence.
If opposition are fighting for the “people” as they claim then find a better solution than unlawful demonstration.
Kudos….

GO ahead and you will see how we shall make you VANISH to extinction, u cant let us rule the country in PEACE sure eveytime complaining and making noise, will see who is great
On 13th November 2013 Nevers Nervously pleaded with the court not to send him to jail saying such a decision would deprive the MMD, the largest opposition party of a leader. He submitted that it would be difficult for the MMD to find a replacement if he is sent to jail as the party does not have adequate funds to host fresh party elections. Dr Mumba said he is a family man with five children and a wife would also be deprived of his love and attention if he is sent to jail.
Today Nevers is saying he is never nervous….that he was ready to face the wrath of the law……Dr Mumba said ….. he was not scared to face the wrath of law in his quest to defend the liberty and freedom of the Zambian people. Is he being truthful?
In my opinion HH should have used his riff raffs to try and include a clause in the constitution that will allow cows to Vote, Since his cows outnumber registered Voters in areas where he is not popular I am sure if they are allowed to vote he might just find his way to state house!!!
