Zesco fall to Medeama

Share

Zesco have been handed an uphill battle after losing 2-0 away today in Sekondi to their Ghanaian host Medeama in Sekondi.

Goals in each half from Nathaniel Asamoah and Michael Helegene gave Medeama a significant win in an action packed 90 minutes.

Asamoah put Medeama ahead in the 9th minute with a fine curling shot to beat Lameck Nyangu in goal for Zesco a first half the Ghanaians dominated.

Zesco on the other hand misfired in attack throughout without Jackson Mwanza and Winston Kalengo struggling despite benefitting from the vision of an industrious Justin Zulu in midfield.

Godbless Asamoah and Kwame Boahene tormented Zesco’s defence and the visitors had Nyangu to thank who kept the score line respectable with at least three fine saves.

Zesco best chance to get on the score sheet came in the 47th minute when substitute Kabwe Chileshe shot on the near post was saved on the line by Tagoe Munthari.

Medeama made sure of the home win in the 81st minute when Belegene converted a penalty after Ghana’s 2014 CHAN star Theo Anoboah tumbled inside the box after squeezing through Bernard Mapili and Bornwell Silengo.

Zescvo must beat Medeama 3-0 on Sunday at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola to ensure their passage to the pre-group stage of the competition.

    • A BUNCH of losers – that’s what SA’s sports Minister would call them… just confirming that Ghanaian soccer is so much better than ours at any level!

  1. ZESCO must imulate from Manchester united who was down with same margin but overturned it on return leg at home. ZESCO can score three or more goals if they are determined to progress to the next round. Go go ZESCO .. make history

    • Why even going very far to England to sight an example? Make it real and inspirational to Zesco by saying they must imulate from NKANA KALAMPA ABA BOLA who went down with same margin but overturned it on return leg at home beating swallows 5 – 2. Why ukutemwa lyonse ifyaba sungu?

    • I took that example bcos it surpass the first leg goal margin and denied visiting team scoring a goal. (Home advantage) However, Your Nkana and my ManU examples will inspire them. Most important is for the team to die alittle in order to overturn the 0-2 suffered on away match. Lets give credit where it is due.

  2. @Kanjimaano

Do u mean to say that ZESCO will bring in Van Persi from ManU to this game
to help them over turn the 2-0 Loss?

    • Thanks for asking, no, no, thats far from what I mean. Their own strikers can imulate from the big teams. Sate Sate and other frontmen can do like what ManU ‘s RVP did. Hopeful I clear the air.

  3. There’s only one strategy for Zesco in the return leg; all out attack. It doesn’t matter if they lose by 10 goals or 1 goal, just attack from the first whistle. Nkana should be more cautious in the first half since they’re playing away and did not concede a goal at home (weather the “Pharoah Storm”).
