Nkana hero Mwansa reflects on penalty

Defender Derrick Mwansa has expressed joy after scoring a solitary goal that propelled Nkana to the group stage of the 2014 CAF Confederation Cup on Sunday.

Mwansa stepped forward to convert a 74th minute penalty as Nkana rallied to draw 1-1 away at Tunisian side CA Bizertin to advance via the same score-line on aggregate.

The ex-junior international said he was humbled to scored a vital goal for the FAZ Super League Champions.

This was Mwansa’s first goal since joining Nkana from Nkwazi earlier this season.

“First of all I have to thank God and my coach for giving me a chance to play today and I have to thank my fellow players because we fought hard. I am very happy,” he said.
Mwansa said he was not under pressure when taking the decisive spot kick.
“No I was not under pressure and I didnt have fear, I had total concentration,” he said.
According to Mwansa, this was his 20th successful penalty he was taking in competitive games.

  1. Thats was a goal by the referee. You should learn to score within 90 minutes and not from penalt shoutouts. hehehehehe!

  2. BUT WHO SHOULD BE THE ACTUAL HERO? I THOUGHT THE NKANA GOAL KEEPER WAS REAL HERO BECAUSE DESPITE THE ENVIRONMENT BEHIND HIS GOAL, HE WAS FACING A TEAM THAT WAS PLAYING AT HOME! BUT THERE HE WAS! RISING TO AN OCCASION AND SAVED A PENALTY! IF THAT PENALTY HAD GONE IN, WE WOULD BE TALKING ABOUT A DIFFERENT STORY NOW AND EVEN NKANA’S PENALTY WOULD HAVE BEEN IN VAIN. SO, WHO IS THE REAL HERO BETWEEN THE ONE WHO SCORED A PENALTY AND ONE WHO SAVED A PENALTY?

  3. The goalkeeper had to save the penalty at all costs because he caused it, talk about self redemption. So Mwansa the scorer is the hero.

    • I DO NOT THINK THAT THE GOAL KEEPER DID THAT INTENTIONALLY (TAKING IT FROM THE WAY YOU HAVE PUT IT, AND THAT IS “SAVING IT AT ALL COSTS BECAUSE HE CAUSED IT”). INFACT, MOST IF NOT ALL GOALS THAT ARE SCORED IN ANY GAME ARE AS A RESULT OF SOME ERRORS OF SOME SORT – DEFENSIVE, ETC AND WHEN THAT HAPPENS, THE TEAM RALLIES BEHIND A COLLEAGUE WHO MAY HAVE CAUSED IT. THE WORST YOU CAN DO IS TO DAMPEN THE SPIRIT OF THAT PLAYER. NO PLAYER IS IMMUNE TO ERRORS. APART FROM THE PENALTY THAT HE SAVED, MUCHELENG’ANGA (SPELLING) DID REMARKABLY WELL BY PULLING OFF A FEW SAVES AS WELL THAT CAME FROM OPEN PLAY. KUDOS TO HIM ATLEAST FROM ME!
