A TWENTY-six-year old pharmacist has appeared in a Lusaka magistrate court facing five counts of causing death by dangerous driving.

Angela Namulambe, a daughter to deputy foreign affairs minister, Gabriel yesterday appeared before Lusaka magistrate Sheila Mweene for explanation of the charges.

Angela of house number 345 independence avenue in Lusaka is charged with the offence of causing the death of her daughter Jane Chinguta, her younger sister Rose Namulambe, Pauline Ngoma, another Jane Chinguta and Frank Maambwe in December last year.

It is alleged that Angela on December 31, 2013 at Lusaka did cause the death of the five people by driving a motor vehicle, Toyota Vitz registration number ALM 6223 on Kafue road.

Angela is alleged to have been driving in a manner which was dangerous to the public and other road users.

After the charges were read out to her by Ms Mweene, Angela told the court that she understood the charges leveled against her.

Ms Mweene however informed her that she was only appearing for mention because the offences she was facing could only be heard in the high court.

She further explained that Angela would continue appearing before her until such a time when she would receive instructions from the director of public prosecution (DPP) to have her case committed to the high court.

Mr Namulambe also attended the court session. Ms Mweene adjourned the case to May 20, 2014 for mention.

  1. This is all due to excitement stemming from the fact that her dull father is a ‘useless minsiter’ it reminds me of the Postbus accident where we lost so many due to the careless act of one. We have to change the law so that a stiff custodial sentence is handed down to such characters. I hope it is not part of the ‘sacrifice’ that has become associated with pf officials.

  2. What has become of the driver who caused the death 50 people on the post bus? Has it become one of those common Zambian cases where hands are exchanged between victims and our less than honorable magistrates/judges?

  3. THE HEADLINE? Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister’s daughter in court for causing death by dangerous driving

NEWS ITEM? A TWENTY-six-year old pharmacist has appeared in a Lusaka magistrate court facing five counts of causing death by dangerous driving.
Angela Namulambe, a daughter to deputy foreign affairs minister, Gabriel yesterday appeared before Lusaka magistrate Sheila Mweene for explanation of the charges.

    Who was the victim?

    • Sub-standard reporting, I agreed with you. I’m also totally lost at who has died and what connection they have with Gabriel or Angela Nalumambe. No disregard to the deceased but this LT story is so insignificant and possibly the worst headline news. Its clear there is no editing at LT.Misspellings, grammatical errors and most stories don’t make sense but we get on with it because its easier to post comments than ZWD. I am beginning to think that this site is run from some shanty room bedroom somewhere in Lusaka.

  4. So Angela was driving a Vitz. In it were her sister Rose, her daughter Jane, another Jane, Pauline and Frank. So the double tragedies here are: a single family lost a daughter and grandchildren and the only survivor has to live with the fact that she caused the death of her daughter, her sister and two others. Added onto that the trauma of facing a court case. Despite their political allegiance, any family facing such pain deserve sympathy and prayers. Lets not forget our humanity.
May God give rest to every grieving family.

    • @Disappointed in y’all,
Your sentiments are very touching, they flow with love, sympathy and empathy. This was tragic, painful and could happen to any family.

    • You readers who’ve written some very demeaning things please have a heart, this woman has suffered a double tragedy. The loss of her most dear ones and then these court proceedings are not things any normal person would joke about or wish on another, from the comments you people are making I wonder what is wrong with some of you? God save us from people with such hearts. Is it jealousy, boredom or you are just a whole lot of evil creatures??? How dare you say such bad things about a poor child that has already experienced such a terrible loss??? I pray for the Namulambes as a family, God give them the strength and as for the judicial system of which I have faith in I know they will find that accidents happen regardless of one’s experience. Even judges have caused fatal road accidents.

  5. The people supporting this girl are the same characters who are drink driving, getting unnecessarily excited with overtaking trucks when conditions are not conducive. UK has just over 30 million drivers yet its road accidents are no where near what Zambia is experiencing. That girl must see her day in court to serve as an example for excited drivers. Road carnage is worse then plunder of national resources.

    • In the UK you have all the road safety measures in place, street lights, no pot holes, no pedestrians on motor ways, wide highways with several lanes, yet even there accidents happen. The UK experiences several accidents on the motor ways, trucks hitting into vehicles, buses over turning, even in the suburbs there are several cases of hit and runs the last I read was a child that was hit on the side walk so don’t generalise. The court will find out the cause, it occurred at night and you can only speculate. She might’ve panicked, she mightve been blinded by headlights, she mightve tried avoiding a pot hole, she might mistook the motorcycle for a car, or the motor cycle rider erred. The court will come up with the facts, have a heart this girl has lost her own child and relatives.

  6. @Nostradamus

What did the PF minister do?

Please LT help me understand the story! My understanding is that a deputy minister’s daughter was in court for dangerous driving?

But according to the same story, the same deputy minister’s daughter is reported to be late! How?

    Please bear with me.

  7. @Nostradamus

What did the PF minister do?

LT reports about a deputy minister’s daughter who was in court for dangerous driving? The same girl is late! How?

    Please bear with me.

  8. My heart goes to the Namulambe family. It is enough pain to lose a sister and children and on top of that being dragged to court. Who is the complainant? This is a very sad story. Irespective of the manner in which the deaths occured this family deserves our sympathy and prayers. may the good Lord strengthen this family.

    • @Ngoshe
In a criminal matter- dangerous driving is a criminal matter, the state (Directorate of Public Prosecutions DPP) is the complainant. A civil matter is between two entities.

  9. The story is not clear or complete to those of us who never heard about this accident before. Wher were the deceased? In the car or they were pedestrians? I see there are 6 victims here. Could they have all been in the Toyota Vitz. Someone explain, please. My sincere condolences to the families of the diceased.

  10. The story is about one Angela who was driving a car in which her own sister and relatives died as a result of her dangerous driving, so the charge goes.
Granted LT could have done better in terms of heading and content.
It is traumatising, yes, but she must answer for her actions or lack of. But then the spot where this accident happened has claimed more lives and clearly GRZ must work on that, you can not have a “T” junction in a curved area.
