PF bent on dividing Bembas – Chanda

Share

The Open Society Foundation (OSF) says the PF Government is bent on dividing the Bemba-speaking people by directly fighting paramount Chief Chitimukulu designate Henry Kanyanta Sosala.

OSF Executive Director, Sunday Chanda, told QFM News in an interview that it is a statement of fact that the Bemba-speaking people provided a strong base for the PF, but that this base has been despised with the highest contempt possible.

Mr. Chanda said Zambians and the Bemba speaking people wish to know why the PF government is fighting their paramount chief.

He said that by fighting the Chitimukulu designate, government is in fact fighting the Bemba speaking people.

Mr. Chanda added that the ruling party is determined to dislodge Kasama central Member of Parliament Geoffrey Mwamba for resigning from government in protest over the stalemate between the government and the Bemba royal establishment over the installation of the Chitimukulu.

Mr. Chanda has called on Government to let go of the Chitimukulu throne and stop dividing the Bemba-speaking people.

Mr. Chanda added that PF will be pushing their luck too far with Kasama Central parliamentary seat by creating a by-election.

    • There is a line of Bembas who have been looked down upon for too long. These are the Ngoshe Mukote Clan. What Sata is trying to say is all Bembas qualify to be Chitimukulu including those from the Ngoshe mukote linage. The only problem that is setting in is even Bisas want to be Chitimukulus. Now that is the problem.

    • @St Mary. You can’t just wake up and change long-standing tradition mwana. And why should it be Sata of all people? Is he a ngoshe mukote and why should he use (abuse) the presidency to fight tribal battles? I would have respected his position if he had started this ‘fight’ if he had started what you are calling the ngoshe mukote claim to the throne when he was in government and then opposition? For me Sata’s differences with the mwinelubemba designate are personal, dating back to the times they rubbed shoulders and probably crossed paths. Let him come out straight on this and stop hiding behind the powers of the Presidency.

    • I DO NOT UNDERSTAND MR. CHANDA’S STATEMENT! DIVIDING THE BEMBA-SPEAKING PEOPLE OVER THE CHITIMUKULU ISSUE? IF HE SAID DIVIDING THE “BEMBAS” MAY BE BECAUSE BEMBA-SPEAKING PEOPLE SPREAD FROM MUCHINGA ALL THE WAY TO LUAPULA AND MOST PARTS OF COPPERBELT AND PART OF CENTRAL PROVINCE. HOW ARE THESE GOING TO BE DIVIDED? THE MISTAKE WAS MADE WHEN THE CHIEFTAINCY STARTED ASKING THE PRESIDENCY TO “RECOGNISE” IT! WHY DID THEY WANT THE PRESIDENT TO BE RECOGNISING CHIEFS WHEN IT WAS A LOCAL OR TRADITIONAL MATTER? TO ME THE REASON WAS TO TRY AND PROTECT THAT INSTITUTION OF CHIEFTAINCY FROM BEING TAKEN OVER BY PEOPLE WHO MAY HAVE INFLUENCE AND MONEY TO BUY THEIR WAY THERE WITH OBVIOUS CONSEQUENCES. HERE THE PRESIDENT MAY BE SAYING: “ACCORDING TO YOUR OWN TRADITION YOU HAVE NOT DONE THIS AND THAT”.

    • …… it is a statement of fact that the Bemba-speaking people provided a strong base for the PF, but that this base has been despised with the highest contempt possible.

At least one of them in the name of Chanda has acknowledged that PF is tribal, hence the appointments under this govt are bembalized

    • Ba Kalumba naba Chanda Bemba speaking peoples are different from Bembas. In any case Bemba speaking peoples are not one homogenous group. I think Chanda is talking about Bembas but reporters being what they are might be mispreporting him by adding “speaking people” to his statements.

  1. This issue is so big that even those without eyes can see it, but I wonder why the leadership in government is ignoring an issue of such magnitude. Well let wait and watch this space

  2. Chanda why should PF divide Bembas? Your proclaimed theory is based on hear say rather on principles of who we are. The fact is mwinelubemba Kanyanta Manga Bwalya Chisupa Will reconcile with Sata with the best outcome. Secondly GBM did not take a brave decision as per say he knew he was about to be dropped from ministerial post. GBM thinks PF does not know his double dealings with opposition parties. The mistakes are too huge to ignore . HH is now the spokesperson for GBM because HH thinks by using GBM he can get northern away from PF when this is too much asking for as Northern is too complex due to many tribes in the province and their political affiliations. GBM and his fellow amps have failed to develop Northern coz they are too good at talking and less doing or lobbying the govt .

    • @PAFWENAMWINE: MR. CHANDA DID NOT TALK ABOUT BEMBAS BUT BEMBA-SPEAKING PEOPLE. WHY HAS THE PRESIDENT REFUSED TO RECOGNISE BA SOSALA TO BE CHITIMUKULU? HAVE ALL PEOPLE INTERESTED IN THIS TAKEN KEEN INTEREST TO INVESTIGATE? ARE THERE CERTAIN THINGS THAT NEEDED TO BE FOLLOWED WHICH HAVE NOT BEEN FOLLOWED? CHIETAINCY IS NOT LIKE THE PRESIDENCY WHERE YOU CAN ELECT ANYONE. THE BEMBAS COULD HAVE TOLD THE GOVERNMENT ON HOW THEY INHERIT THE CHITIMULUKULU WITH ANY OTHER WAY BEING NULL AND VOID. I UNDERSTAND THAT THERE IS THE “CHITIMUKULU WA CHILINDA” (THE NKULA OF CHINSALI SIDE) AND THE “CHITIMUKULU WA LUBEMBA (THE MWAMBA SIDE), WHICH FOLLOWS THE LINE OF MPEPO TO NKOLEMFUMU TO MWAMBA AND THEN CHITIMUKULU. THEY SAY IT IS A MUST THAT ONE GOES THROUGH THESE POSTS IN THAT ORDER OTHERWISE IS NULL…

  3. Very interesting indeed. UPND and HH are not the only opposition parties in Zambia!! Is this a tribal alert that Bembas might change this time round and vote for someone from outside Muchinga, Luapula and Northern? Are we not one unitary state whose people should vote on merit and not tribe?? Surely, we should stop this unproductive attitude. Let us love one another just as lovers from our tribes are doing by intermarrying. It is good for all of us. I see HH uniting Zambia more than any other leader we have had since independence because he will need to prove his skeptics wrong about him. A bemba president has nothing to prove since bembas claim to be a majority group and think they can win elections even if smaller tribes rejected them!

    • @Let me say…… what will determine the fate of the Bembas if HH becomes president is NOT HH but the surrounding cohort. What is evident is that Zambia has this typical political behavior of insulting some sections of society and then manipulating them into voting for them. We need a change in tact in this modern age. See how the big powers seem to be sliding back to the cold war. It appears at this rate we will slide back into serfdoms and colonial mindsets…

  4. Indeed you said all, but Bembas must not just vote for Sata because he is one of them. Let them learn to discern sanity from insanity. Let us vote based on capacity deliver. Not all Bemba speaking have benefited because Sata is the President. It is not possible that if you voted for you tribesmate, then automatically you benefit. No, let us vote because the candidate has an agenda for the Country. Let us also focus on people that will unit the Country like what LPM (MHSRIP) did. Sata has been a divisive element in this Country. NWP is not even on his agenda, there is no single project he can point to since 2011.

  5. Mwanawasa and Banda were not Bemba or Bemba linked tribes. What else will satisfy you complainants? Be humble and show humility and respect for others. HH openly hate us, how can we bring him into State house? Only a mad person would do so.

    • No Chileya, HHe does not hate BEMBAs. If He did, why has he been visiting there?

But you OPENLY HATE HH. Everyone can see that.

    • @ Bwana Mkubwa, on Saturday 22 February 2014, Hakainde urged the people of Katuba not to vote for PF candidate Moses Chilando because he comes from another region of our country. Hakainde told a campaign rally in Katuba: “Na muntu wafwa pamunshi, wa mukowa wafwa pamushi, mwamana kulila, mbutwakalila kuno kuli ba Chikusu, mulakala nobamukowa kubandika… simulyazhina saa… mulabika mutuba na mulabika wa mukowa? Mulabika wa mukowa (if a clansman dies, when you finish mourning just like we did for Chikusu, you sit as a clan to select one to take over the name. Are you going to give the name to a foreigner or your clansman) to which the crowd responded ‘mukowaaa’.”

    • Chileya you are so backward, the fact is its you who hates him. You still live in a stone age attitude.

    • @MWEBE. WHY NOT CELEBRATE THE UKUSEFYA PA NG’WENA IN 2014 IF THE CEREMONY IS PURELY TRADITIONAL AND IF BA SHILUBEMBA HAVE SAID THAT THEIR DECISION IS FINAL? THE GOVERNMENT DOES NOT ORGANISE TRADITIONAL CEREMONIES BUT PARTICIPATES ON CONDITION OF BEING INVITED ONLY. THIS WHOLE SAGA WOULD NOT BE THERE NOW IF THE MMD GOVERNMENT HAD INTERVENED WHEN SOME CHIEFS STARTED BEING HAND-PICKED WITHOUT GOING THROUGH THE TRADITIONAL WAY. BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM THE WHOLE SUCCESSION SYSTEM WAS SOMEHOW HIJACKED (APOLOGIES TO USE THIS WORD) AND IT MAY HAVE REMAINED FREE FOR ALL AND THESE ARE RESULTS WE ARE NOW SEEING – KUSEMFAYA PA NG’WENA BECOMING A THING OF THE PAST. BA SHILUMBEMBA SHOULD TAKE THINGS SERIOUSLY AND GO AND CONVINCE THE PRESIDENT ON AREAS WHERE THE PRESIDENT IS NOT CONVINCED, PLEASE,…

  6. People do not hate HH,the happenings after the death of Mazoka, that saw patrick chisanga and sikota to leave the party painted UPND as a tribal party.Madyenkuku once said ‘ONLY A TONGA WILL SUCCEED MAZOKA” and it came to pass. This has stuck in peoples minds.HH is not tribal at all…..

  7. All Animals are racists, tribal, selfish, greedy, mentally unstable, unpredictable, seasonal what ever you can call it. THis is more worse in poverty stricken environment.
What one need to know is that desperate times calls for desperate measures, which is normal considering the situation, therefore, pointing fingers will not help especially in the jungle were survival of the fittest is the playing factor.
Do I need to remind you that mind psychology is a politicians best weapon? Dismantle the strongest opponent and divide! That is how they play their cards aiming at confusing everyone. In so doing, they will be arming themselves up whilst you will be busy fighting each other and by the time you will realise you are being played if ever you will, they will already have taken the…

  8. Mazoka is Tonga, he won majority votes in Bemba speaking provinces, including in Bembaland, likewise Mwanawasa and Banda were favorably voted for in Bemba speaking provinces including Northern Province…..what tribalism are talking about from the Bembas? HH is on record to have ridden to power on tribal ticket, so who is a tribalist HH or Bembas? Zambia is one why should the Bembas and Tongas hold all of us to ransom?

  9. Zambians are fed up with this Bemba clique differences with Chitimukulu. Bembas supported Sata for a good reason, to be direct beneficiaries from that support and they got it and are dominant than other tribes in Sata,s government. Bembas should be wise enough not expect Sata make them dance to his tune of music. Bembas have an elephant in the sitting room they have to kill it before removing it or learn to accept to appoint Chitimukulu.
