The opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) President Hakainde Hichilema has observed that if the country’s economy is badly managed, women and children are the people who suffer most.

Speaking during a launch of UPND Women Mobilization, Mr. Hichilema says the economy performance in Zambia under the Patriotic Front (PF) is disastrous resulting into the depreciation of kwacha.

Mr. Hichilema says it is unfortunate that the majority Zambians are suffering from the disease of poor leadership under PF administration.

He furthermore notes that when there is break down in the rule of law, women and children suffer the most and thus the need to look into the plight of these people.

Speaking at the same event, UPND Lusaka Provincial Chair lady, Rosa Zulu, says most Gender Based Violence (GBV) cases go unreported women fear to report the same men that abuse them as they economically depend on them.

Ms Zulu says the women of Zambia are looking up to Mr. Hichilema to prioritize women and youth empowerment as a way of achieving sustainable human development in the country.

  1. to say disastrous is being economical with the truth. its absolutely nonsense to have an economy in such shambles amid plenty. we have so much wealth around us yet the people we have entrusted to manage it on our behalf dont seem to have any idea at other than enriching themselves

    • criticism is welcome and we will not shy away from it.

yes things are tough and hard in some ways and at the same time there is visible development on the scale never seen before since UNIP era.

having said that, i would appreciate anyone from HH to the lowest cadre who can help me with their national development agenda if they have one so that we can look at what you have for the country

    • @Gen

Its just that you don’t and will never understand genuine UPND development agenda because you have simply auctioned your thinking ability to “PF Donch Kubeba” scheme of lies and deception for some crumbs off Sata ‘s table. For you to understand UPND ‘s development agenda you first of all need to un bury your head out of PF deception and begin to think rationally.

Its also encouraging to note that you and your fellow PF minions are begining to feel the impact of PF’s economic mismanagement. By the way this is just “dyonko”, its gona get worse to a point where you have no choice but to accept that PF and Sata have wrecked the economy.

If only some of you in PF can open up and begin to fight the corrupt system from within, things would at least improve. But you are all…

    • I beg to differ. Which economy is disastrous that has so much construction never seen in this country before? Ever since UNIP was in place, can you remember any project that constructed roads in the entire district to bituminous standard. Increase in fuel or kwacha depreciating has so many parameters outside Zambia. The Rand has never gone below R10 to a dollar for the past one year, I unique scenario in RSA. Fuel has been increasing ever since. Okay I agree its politics. Lets continue discussing

    • @ wanzelu

i asked a simple question and you have lamentably failed to explain your party development agenda if at all you have one

yet you expect people to believe and vote for you… how is that possible?

PF may have made mistakes and of course these are honest mistakes, but there is massive and very visible infrastructure development across the country and only f00ls like you without nzelu will choose not to see that

go on with your aimless pedestrian politics while the rest of the country moves forward

    • @Gen

Yes infrastructure ,Sata and PF have prioritised it at the expense of other economic sectors that matter, all because Sata and you his minions are benefiting hugely through deals with contractors who inflate the costs so you can get cuts.

If this was genuine, Sata would have started by expanding capacity and revamping existing infrasture before taking on new projects. He should have been sensitive other economic facets which would derail his ambition such as daily depreciation of the kwacha , rising fuel, and meali meal prices. These facet s if not taken care of they would through all his plans out of the window because the poor don’t care about good roads and infrastructure first and foremost. Their priorities is feeding and educating their families.

      PF ‘s approach is…

    • @Gen

Now to answer your question, this what we in UPND will do once in power.

      1. We will build infrastructure by expanding national intercity roads and making them safe first before embarking on feeder roads. Livingstone to CB road to be dual carriage way. Chipata to Western province to be dual carriage way. Other roads with traffic more than 100 vehicles per hour will also be expanded. In cities we will tackle congestion by way of fly over bridges and ring roads to avoid traffic by passing the city causing congestion. The existing rails will be renewed and then new rail line built to cater for other areas.
      2. On housing, city shanties will be modernised, by buying out those shacks from owners to free the land and then build high rise flats to ensure efficient use of land.

    • @Gen

      Cont
      2. High rise flats will solve the accommodation crisis that is making many hard working Zambian very poor because 50-75% of their income goes to pay rent. Most the land freed will then be sold off to developers to build both commercial and luxurious houses.

      3. On Schools; the existing boarding and secondary schools will be expanded and modernised to increase capacity. More primary schools will be build and electrified. Teachers’ houses will also be built not far from the schools. All teachers to stay in decent houses. Every province will have a modern well equipped university, after expanding and modernising the existing ones.

    • @Gen
      4. On Hospitals; the existing provincial referral hospitals will be expanded and equipped with modern diagnostic equipment ,well trained and well paid staff. New hospitals will built according population densities to ensue efficient use of meagre resources.

      5. On food security; We will encourage small scale farmers to mechanise so that efficient farming methods are used. Will empower the small scale farmers through land ownership with title deeds to enable to use their land as collateral to borrow money from the banks to buy farming inputs. Through such a scheme we hope to win the small scale farmers off government dependence.

6.On governance; this useless POA will be amended to clearly remove political activities from affected by it. All freedoms will be observed.

    • @Gen

Now , all the things I have mentioned are just a snipped of what we in UPND will do. If you want to know more, un bury your head and read the UPND manifesto.

That said the big question is how will these ventures be funded?

      1. Introduction of wind fall tax on all extractive industries such as the mines to raise millions.

      2. Introduction of sensible and robust tax collection regimes to close the tax evasion loophole.

      3. Money will also be raised from sensible local and international borrowing.

      4. A good chunk of the money raised will go into improving existing infrastructure and starting up manufacturing industries . Manufacturing will supported by way of giving out loans to individuals who show a credible home grown manufacturing initiatives . Through this scheme…

    • @ Gen

I can go on and on spelling out the exact pragmatic solutions to reverse the mess being created day in day out by your PF and your mad ailing President.

Above all our aim in UPND is to lower the cost of living, by introducing subsidies in areas we feel the majority of the poor citizens will benefit.

To solve the issue of capital flight which is responsible for massive daily kwacha depreciation, we will among other things, create a conducive political environment which is predictable , free of police brutality and political intimidation to make people and investors feel secure to keep their saving in Zambia. This is the most important step and solution to solve our Kwacha dilemma.

Believe me you, even PF politicians are externalising Dollar for fear of the unknown…

  2. I agree with Hakainde. The PF leaders are busy jostling for positions for 2016 polls instead of explaining the weakening economy and fall in value of the Kwacha. Everyone seems to be an expert on explaining this loss in value of the Kwacha, with the d!ckhead Panji Kaunda blaming it on the construction industry and externalisation of profits!!! Can this guesswork end?!!

  3. Poverty anywhere is a hindrance to prosperity everywhere!
Let me propound on the point above. You may feel poverty doesn’t affect you because you have a job, business or are born with a silver spoon in your mouth but hang on a minute, the guy who will come to burgle your house is afflicted by poverty! The prositute who will infect you with a deadly disease is affected by poverty. The West will always have to deal with an influx of asylum seekers, illegal immigrants with all their social and physiological problems that create issues on their economies because we are all affected by poverty anywhere!

  4. HH can be the next president, UPND need to work on some logistics to increase votes in the 2016 election and broaden their outreach. Currently HH stands at 40% to 50% in winning the elections with Southern , parts of Western and North Western comfortably under UPND. Lusaka, Copperbelt and Central Provinces may lean towards UPND depending on what will prevail few months before the elections so more work and voter registration need to take place in these provinces. Eastern province will require a lot of work as it seems to be the last province to make decisions during a political turn around.

  5. contd As for Northern, Luapula and Muchinga Provinces UPND needs to change it’s strategy by having 2 Vice President positions to destroy the media propaganda of tribalism by giving one of the positions to an influential politician from that region e.g Bwalya of ABZ etc. Voter Registration and a lot of work is needed in that region. If the above steps can be undertaken it will boost the percentages to 50% to 60% of HH being the next leader.

  6. Dr Nevers Mumba also has a chance of being the next President by 40% to 50%. A lot of work and voter registration is needed by the New MMD especially to convince Zambians that MMD has reformed including the internal conflicts need to be managed and resolved successfully. Eastern Province, Central Province, Western, North Western is comfortably under MMD and a lot of work and voter registration needs to take place. Parts of Northern, Muchinga and Luapula province is comfortably under MMD and a lot of work and voter registration needs to take place.

  7. Lusaka, Copperbelt and Central Provinces may lean towards MMD depending on what will prevail few months before the elections so more work and voter registration need to take place in these provinces. A lot of work and voter registration needs to be done in Southern Province maybe with the possibility of a Vice President from that region. Dr Mumba needs to also enroll in an Economics degree to add to his Masters Degree in Public Policy.

  8. Zambia has learnt the hard way and to bring the country back to it’s Economic standing and even perform even better than the past the country needs a President who not only relies on Technocrat but has also some subject matter expertise in Economics and can debate intellectually with them and also guide the technocrats where there are gaps. If the above steps can be undertaken it will boost the percentages to 50% to 60% of Dr Mumba being the next leader. Every vote counts and every voter segmentation needs to be won.

  9. As for the smaller parties they need to concentrate on winning Parliament positions versus Presidential they can endorse HH or Dr Mumba for 2016. There is a potential of registration of 1.8 million new voters with provinces having a range between 50 000 – 400,000 new voters based upon the current population of 53% adults and the current voters registered by ECZ. MMD and UPND need to wake up and go full force in registering new voters.

  10. No vote from the majority of Zambians, come 2016. You can rest assured about that. Definitely no state house for you, HH! Napalala ba mayo!

  11. HH THE 2016 PREFERRED PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE

HH WILL BE THE NEXT STATE PRESIDENT COME 2016 . KABIMBA IS CAMPAIGNING SO UPND START NOW . BECAUSE KABIMBA KNOWS SOME THING THAT IS WHY HE CAMPAIGNING AND HAS DIRECTED PF TO START IDENTIFYING CANDIDATES NOW, WHY? HH AND UPND MUST GO OUT INTO THE COUNTRY SIDE . THIS IS OUR FAVOURED TIME TO MAKE THE NEXT GOVERNMENT OF MEN AND WOMEN OF INTEGRITY.
i NOW FULLY UNDERSTAND WHY MICHEAL SATA CHILUFYA KATONGO AS PER NEW NAMES FROM THE COURT OATH , WHY HE CALLED CALLED PF MPS USELESS AND PF MINISTERS USELESS BECAUSE IF THEY ARE NOT USELESS THAY CAN NOT ALLOW THE PRESIDENT TO GO IN COURT IN PERSON AT THE TIME THE HEAD OF IS COVERED BY THE IMMUNITY. VIVA HH. VIVA UPND VIVA ZAMBIAN PEOPLE SUPPORT HH AND UPND FOR THE ECONOMY TO COME AND CHANGE . VIVA…

  12. According to HH street economist, the economy is doing badly because the kwacha is under pressure. Oooooh economist indeed.

  13. HH IS RIGHT! THE ZAMBIANS DECIED TO EXPERIMENT WITH PF IN 2011 AND NOW IT IS CLEAR THAT THE! PERFORMANCE OF THE ECONOMY UNDER PF HAS BEEN A DISASTER.

ZAMBIANS LISTEN TO HH! DONT EXPERIMENT AGAIN! 2016 VOTE MMD AND TURN BACK THE COUNTRY WHERE MMD LEFT IT OR ELSE MEALIE MEAL WHICH MMD LEFT AT K37,5– PER BAG WILL SOON REAK K250.00.

    2016 NO MORE EXPERIMENTS!!!

  14. H H is right, and if people can t see whats happening then I don t know, Yes PF is doing well with roads but as for other issues, we t-r sinking and before long we will be colonised by the chinese and instead of local langues we will have to learn mandarin a Chinese language; LOL

  15. Ba Hateful Hyena nabu..what solutions has he got to solving this problem? Indeed the Kwacha has depreciated but then again there are many parameters as mentioned that have caused this, even the SA Rand has expereinced a lot of volatility of late, and SA is a much stronger economy with better and more honest economists than this Hateful Hyena will ever be. And let’s be real and objective as Gen says what are HH and his minions Party Agenda??? Nothing but insults, the whole bunch of these UPND chaps are empty tins, loud but with no substance at all.

  16. PF will win Luapula, Northern, Muchinga, Central, Copperbelt,Lusaka, Eastern and will share Western and N/Western Provinces.
Mazoka went with UPND which has become a tribla and regional party.

  17. Whether Sata,Chipimo,Akalem etc,we Zambians are good @ pointing fingers.Mr Sata is also human and bound to make mistakes, his no messiah. You will still find fault in Akalem once elected in 3016 thats if…………Viva PF,long leave Mr Sata!
