THE Zambia Police Service has deployed over 100 officers in Mongu to prevent anarchy by some activists agitating secession of Western Province from Zambia.
Ministry of Home Affairs spokesperson Moses Suwali said in an interview that the officers are on the ground to maintain law and order in Western Province.
“We have deployed 100 officers in Mongu, where there are rumours of an announcement of a republic,” he said.
Mr Suwali said police have since launched a manhunt for the perpetrators of the planned uprising.
He said the planned unrest follows an ultimatum the activists gave to Government.
Mr Suwali said the situation has since normalised and warned the perpetrators that the law “would soon catch up with them”.
He said those calling for secession are committing a serious offence under the Zambian laws.
Mr Suwali said the perpetrators are nonentities who are just being used by others.
He said security chiefs in Western Province have confirmed that the situation is under control.
Last year, 84 Barotse activists were arrested and are being prosecuted.
Former Barotse Royal Establishment Ngambela Clement Sinyinda was among 83 other activists who were charged with treason.
However, 31 of the 84 Barotse treason detainees were released from prison after the Director of Public Prosecutions entered a nolle prosequi.
Of those released, three were female and 28 male.
WTF are the 100 cops doing in Barotseland? Why do they want to arrest someone for reminding the head of state of what he promised them for their votes? The man must be dying for so many reasons! There’s pay-back time for fcuking around with God’s people!
Annihilate those disturbing the peace while protecting law abiding citizens and their properties
200 @ Chitimukulu in Kasama, now 100 in Mongu western,Taxpayer’s money zangena muma allowances. Why not get those inept corrupt police officers masquerading as traffic officers and give them some real work to do?
It is those who are now old and have achieved nothing in their lives when they look back, are the ones causing problems in Mongu. We MUST be specific here that all this secession problem is being orchestrated in Mongu…that is where most of these failures in life have settled. They want to disturb peace so that everybody loses, like them. We know them. Some of them served with President Chiluba, with Mwanawasa until Rupiah Banda kicked them out due to indiscipline and non-performance. We should not allow a few selfish people to cause havoc for the rest of that very peaceful province Barotseland. Anybody who has been there will confirm my words that it is one of the most welcoming provinces in the country. Let those young ones achieve their dreams without disturbance, you failures!
why don’t you tell us who they are rather than speaking in generalities. The same goes to the 1diots in the PF govt. last time Sta told us that there were 864 rebels in Lukulu some of them ex colonels in the defence forces. He knew the number and the colonels but he dare not tell us who these people were. Today we have these a$$holes saying there are a 100 people who want to declare independence. It seems you can count them but at the same you can not identify them. Are you people for real? Honestly you are fcuking a$$holes!
@mwembeshi the problem is the barotse agreement which merged northern rhodesia and the former to make zambia as a condition for, and after independence. the case is entering ICJ next week, i hear. no need to fight, no need to send uniformed men. the issue will be concluded peacefully. keep watching.

Sata neo call iwe umonekelafye pe lyashi lya Balozi.
The double standard exhibited by my Bemba friends is shocking, if not sad. When Sata is holding their own Chitimukulu (Kota yetuna) hostage by sending cops there, they complain bitterly and demand for their ‘rights’. Some of us objective and independent minded people even sympathize with their cause. But when the same Sata sends cops to Barotseland, they get excited and even call for the annihil@tion of my people.
I know the two are different issues but they both relate to vi0lations of human rights. The issue of Barotseland is bigger and older than this country. It gave birth to Zambia by 2 separate self-ruling regions signing a treaty to form a country. That treaty requires to be honoured by both parties. The issue calls for impartial minds and not petty biases.
If they are nonentities how the bloody hell do you go heavily armed to confront nonentities? Zambia is a country of lying a$$holes! The dissonance is so unbelievable!
