PRESIDENT Michael Sata has described the late former Zambian Ambassador to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Aaron Mulenga as a dedicated and selfless citizen.

The President said the late Mr Mulenga, 80, enormously contributed towards the attainment of sustainable economic and social development in Northern Province.

Mr Sata said the late envoy played a pivotal role in the development and improvement of infrastructure at both national and regional level adding that, his achievements would always be engraved in the history of the nation.

The Head of State also recognized the role the late Mr Mulenga played that of being among those who led to the development of translating Bemba Bibles through his immense experience.

Mr Sata said this in his message of condolences delivered to the bereaved family by Northern Province Minister, Freedom Sikazwe during the burial of the envoy who was put to rest at Kapoka commentary yesterday.

Among other things that Mr Mulenga would be remembered for is that he was also a translator of many pamphlets and books on decentralization for the Ministry of Education under Irish AID and booklets on HIV/AIDS.

Mr Mulenga also served on several boards among them Lukashya Trades Institute and Kasama Boys Secondary School as well as being the first President for a Roman Catholic Church organisation called Kolping Association.

Mr Mulenga once served as former Northern Province Minister and Governor of Kasama in the United National Independence Party (UNIP) regime.

Family representative Kasonde Kasutu praised government for ensuring that all the logistics for the funeral were put in place in good time.

Mr Mulenga died in Kasama at the weekend after an illness and leaves behind a wife with two children and several grand-children.

    • Bembas like any other tribe in Zambia are there and will always be a permanent non negotiable presence.

You may not like the fact that they constitute 43% of the population but that just what it is… love them or hate them.

If you can accept and be open and embrace them like they generally do to other tribes, Zambia will even be a much better place.

but remember you cant wish them away

    • It’s costly to have these old people in government positions. The likes of mbuzi, Frank mutubila, mumba kapumpa, the dinosaur in Britain with his grandmother, John phiri need I mention more? And himself oops.

    • well, we shall soon mourn him too. that age is the vanishing point of many so shall it be for the mourner

    • Gen i concur with yuo for the first time.Tribalism is bad and should never been encouraged by anyone,But i differ with yu when yu say Bembas constitute 43% of intire Zambian population, which may traslate to 6milion and above out of 14milion Zambians. If yu are talking of those who can speak Bemba then i agree. It is such statistics that will make others shocked to the born when they here that someone has won presidential election and yet is not Bemba.that is posible boss.Spain lost 5-1 to Holland things change bane.

  1. He left a wife and ONLY 2 Children but several grandchildren??? Is it true he left only 2 children , then he was one rare specie. MHSRP

  2. What is the meaning of “translating Bemba Bibles”? Do we have many bemba bible versions? Or he translated bemba bible(s) into other languages?

The headline reads in part; “Zambian Ambassador to DRC” but in the main text he is referred to as former ambassador. I don’t know if he served as Ambassador and retired years back or he served up until his death.

  3. The two presidents and one vice president, Tetambashimba and others died in their teen years, leaving behind the aging Matoka, Changufu, KK and others.

80 is just a number. Death knows no tribe and can call at any time.

  4. The legacy of Sata and his PF govt is that of people current Zambians can hardly catch up with. These are ancient people whose relevancy in the current rapidly ever changing geo-political environment do not fit as ambassadors. Late Mr chileshe had his time of contributing to Zambia at that time and should have died enjoying his retirement in recognition. As a result the nation is informed he died as ambassador in DRC a very complex country that needed a young vibrant intelligent Zambian ambassador to engage with young leadership of Kabila and Katumbi. What a waste and misuse of opportunities. May be he was appointed on paper and earning as ambassador but living in Kasama for he died in Kasama. With PF govt any thing goes.

  5. @The Chosen One! Sincere condolences to the late Ambassador. But why are asking so many useless questions! Dont you know the author is Bemba PF and translating his confused thoughts from PF Bemba into English!
As a result everything is as confused and chaotic as PF including this article! That how SataN works….

  6. Another old man who should have been enjoying his retirement passes away on government duty due to old age…. the frail old man in State House will replace him with another pensioner yet 60% of the population is youth …these empty tins are jokers.

  7. The old man will do some work this month…another swearing in ceremony in the offering at State House where he can make some more senseless utterances.

  8. Yes my grand father died as a hero in mother zambia and will be always remembered by many people. Now it remains with us to keep moving his legacy on!

  9. Its sad that death has to retire these guys because on their own they can never do that and youths will never have such opportunities

  10. @GEN, you should differentiate between bemba speaking people and bembas as a tribe. Bemba tribe is not 43% of zambian population. Not all that speak bemba are from the bemba tribe. They are smart enough to know bemba and other tribes. And if you can speak bemba only out of 72 tribes ,shows how limited you are in communication and probably dull. 80yrs old as an ambassador, come on, as though there no young brilliant Zambians. The whole country is a joke!!

  11. It’s absolutely not true that Bembas constitute 43% of our population. They truly are behaving ling Nigerians where you have Ibos, Yorubas and Hausa’s all claiming to each constitute 50% of the national population. We all know that all Bembas voted for Sata and he curved out 33% of the vote, that is the correct size of your population in Zambia, period! And even if you were 43%, is this an excuse to Katanganize all other groups who collectively are in the majority? No!
