GERMAN ambassador to Zambia Bernd Finke and American charge d’affaires David Young have elected to remain mute over their support for the alleged gay couple of Kapiri-Mposhi Philip Mubiana and James Mwape.
In an interview with the Daily Mail yesterday, Mr Finke said he would only comment on the matter after meeting Foreign Affairs permanent secretary George Zulu.
“We will wait for a meeting with the permanent secretary at Foreign Affairs, and then we can give a position,” Mr Finke said.
Mr Young, through the US embassy public affairs officer Janet Deutch, said he would not comment on the matter.
“Sorry Mr Young is not able to comment on that matter,” Ms Deutch said.
Efforts to get a comment from UNAIDS country co-ordinator Hellen Frary who also went to Kapiri Mposhi proved futile as her office line went unanswered on five attempts.
Dean of the diplomatic corps Tuelonyana Ditlhabi-Oliphant said she would comment on the matter after consultations.
“I have just seen the story in the paper that Government is disappointed with the visit of some diplomats to Kapiri Mposhi. Let me consult and study the matter,” Ms Ditlhabi-Oliphant said.
On Tuesday, Mr Zulu expressed disappointment at the conduct of the diplomats who went to Kapiri Mposhi to show solidarity for the two men accused of practising homosexuality, an illegality.
The pair has been in custody since May last year on charges of having sex against the order of nature.

You must be very very dull. You fail to understand simple facts. For your own info the offenders were caught and taken ZP by their own relatives. The boys were released on police bond but they took advantage and started committing the same offence again. They were not repentant and this is why the court has kept them in custody.

We are fully behind our govt for their stand on the matter. These diplomats are using indirect intimidation which we know.

CECIL JOHN RHODES, the man who brought civilization to Zambia, was a homo. Actually, Zambia was named after him (N.Rhodesia). You should have arrested him as he crossed the Zambezi at Vic Falls. Today Zambia would have been worse than Congo D.R. The mines would not have been there. No mines, no rails, no Lusaka etc. Free those boys, even though what they’re doing may be morally wrong.
Our laws do not allow homosexual activities. It is as simple as that. In other cases, these same diplomats will be quick to condemn our government if they think the law is not being followed. In their countries they do not tolerate lawlessness.
Marie Anne, all peoples of this world have their own cultures that they follow. In this part of the world it is a taboo to have sex with a person of the same sex as yourself. But ,come to think of it, you white people think you can impose your way of life on everyone and frown upon what others believe in. If indeed you are fighting for justice, repeal the laws in your countries that criminalize polygamy. There are a lot of people who want to practise it in the western world but cannot do so because it is not allowed.

Why was Zambia and still is ravaged by HIV/AIDS when you said it was a disease for gays? By the way I am not gay and if I was I would still have something to say about it. Take time to think with your heads and not your hearts. There are more gays in the UK than there are in Zambia I think but the HIV/AIDS community is largely in the African communities. Can we then safely say that the African men in Europe are humping each other and then transfer the disease to their unsuspecting wives and infect them with the disease. Its good that the two diplomats went to show sympathy to the two accussed gays. But they need not to stop here, we need to see them attending court sessions for other million Zambians which have also taken s long to be concluded. They need to be summoned and reprimanded or even expelled for interfering in our internal affairs.
