United Party for National Development (UPND) Vice President Richard Kapita has responded to Vice Prresident Guy Scott’s remarks in parliament about UPND.
Yesterday, Dr Scott reprimanded UPND and Zambian Watchdog, which he labeled as “blood-thirsty” for alleging that the country will have a presidential by-election.
“It is time to deal with it. Opposition Monze Central MP Jack Mwiimbu paid tribute to the Zambian Watchdog that there will be a presidential by-election. The Watchdog is a blood-thirsty publication. We get stories saying that the President fainted when he took off and ended up in Johannesburg before proceeding.
“If we start supporting such, I would happily participate in providing a comprehensive response to this. We should be mature and respective and not be carried away by online false publications,” Dr Scott said.

UPND responds to Guy Scott’s careless statement
Remarks by vice-president Guy Scott that UPND is speculating about president Michael Sata’s health again shows how irresponsible and careless he has been in handling issues of national importance.
Just this week, Scott’s interview to the BBC basically insulted and demeaned the entire people of Southern province when he claimed that they were just a minority tribal grouping that were campaigning to take over power.
His irresponsible, childish, and arrogant statements lately have proved to be some of the most divisive in the history of this country and have the potential to endanger national security and unity that the Zambian people have enjoyed over the years.
We have all been keenly following the debate on president Michael Sata’s trip to Israel and a number of citizens from various political parties have been asking for more details on the nature of the trip because Mr. Sata is public property who is using tax-payers money.
There have even been subjected to contradicting statements from the Israel and other international media regarding Mr. Sata’s trip to Israel. Since when did the Israel media, Reuters, Voice of America, Associated Press, BBC, and others writing stories on Sata’s trip to Israel become UPND members?
In fact, some private citizens who are not UPND members, have even requested for a medical board to ascertain the healthy status of President Sata.
For Scott to reduce such a debate and accuse the UPND of peddling rumours about President’s Sata’s health is just a failed attempt to win public sympathy over his careless handling of national issues.
As UPND, we have always had information that government using some media houses will want to rub their irresponsible acts towards Mr. Sata’s trip on the UPND because they believe it is their main enemy.
In fact, contrary to Scott’s childish and careless statements, at no time has UPND leadership ever wished Mr. Sata ill-health. A few weeks ago our party president Hakainde Hichilema is on record saying he always prays for Mr. Sata’s good health so that he can sort out the many challenges this country faces.
For now, we warn Dr. Scott that we Zambians only have one country and we cherish the peace and tranquility we have enjoyed over the years. His divisive remarks sometimes laced with racial undertones like when he made reference to monkeys in describing opposition behaviour cannot go unchallenged. UPND wants to call on all Zambians who care about our unity to condemn this man in the strongest terms.
Scott and other national leaders and citizens should refrain from issuing irresponsible and careless statements that have the potential to divide the nation.

Scott ‘s PHD is actually in cognitive sciences not robotics. Robotic is way too complicated for his tiny useless brain. His main study was on how pigs think on a farm. I think VP has a point. If one follows the gibberish debates on the ZWD and Sky FM, the point VP brings out is validated.
