FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
FOR AND ON BEHALF OF THE MMD

MMD Responds To Attacks by Wynter Kabimba

Justice Minister Wynter Kabimba’s unwarranted attack on the Movement for Multi-party Democracy (MMD) as reported in the Sunday Post of 29th June 2014 cannot go unchallenged. He was quoted as saying “We are lucky as a country that God gave us Michael Sata to redeem us from the MMD slavery and corruption.” It is rather disingenuous of Mr Kabimba to unashamedly accuse us in this manner and dishonestly reduce the 20-year rule of the MMD to one thing – Corruption.

We wish to remind Mr Kabimba that if it had not been for the MMD fighting for liberation from the One-Party State, he would not have a platform to pontificate today. No amount of falsehoods from Mr Kabimba will ever erase the proud history of the MMD. We not only brought back multi-party politics which the Patriotic Front Government is attempting to destroy. We liberated the press which he is using today to spread his lies and innuendos.

Soon after assuming power in 1991, crippling shortages of essential commodities became a thing of the past. The public transport sector became fully liberalized and Zambians were empowered with home ownership for the first time since Independence. They could freely criticize the president, engage in private business, had unfettered access to foreign exchange, could freely associate with others, sue the government, travel anywhere they wanted, participate in free and fair elections (against fellow humans and not frogs) and access an improved judicial system. The standard of living of the average Zambian as measured by Per Capita Income, Life Expectancy, Infant Mortality and many other statistics remarkably improved on our watch.

Is this what Mr Kabimba calls “Slavery”?

His accusations of corruption in the MMD have already been dealt with before. He is attempting to resurrect a dead issue. The New MMD under my leadership has already made amends and opened a new chapter by acknowledging our past mistakes. Ironically, the current Patriotic Front (PF) government from top to bottom, including current ministers, has people who were previously key members of the same MMD government he is now trying to discredit. Is he saying his colleagues in government are corrupt slave-masters?

The rule of the PF in the last three years has completely vindicated the MMD which warned the Zambian people that they were dealing with a dangerous group of people who would cause them to regret their decision to vote for the PF. Everyone from marketeers, farmers, businesses men, investors, donors, labour unions, NGOs and miners are mourning the great tragedy that has befallen Zambia because of the PF Government. It is not uncommon to hear street vendors and taxi drivers say “Mudala alitu gon’ga”, meaning “The old man lied to us.”

Zambians have been taken on a disastrous boat ride (Pa Bwato) to nowhere by the PF Government and not a single day passes without them wondering where we are going. They now realize that the PF Government is just power-hungry and has no vision, no heart and no genuine compassion for the suffering people of Zambia.

The PF must be the most hypocritical government since Independence. They have taken us backwards a quarter of a Century to the time when Zambians lived in fear of their own government. Our people are not free to speak their minds; not free to assemble; not free to campaign; not free to even have indoor political meetings. They can be arrested anytime on flimsy grounds; can be beaten anyhow and even killed by PF cadres. We are back to the days of the “Party and its Government” when the State machinery was abused for intimidation of anyone with dissenting political views.

Is this not the real slavery Mr Kabimba should be addressing?

Mr Kabimba has accused the MMD of corruption, and yet the scale of corruption in the PF government begs belief. How did they award the single-sourced tender for renovations of State House to their own Minister of Finance within weeks of assuming power? Why are there still many unanswered questions on the procurement of oil through Trafigura, for which Mr Kabimba himself was investigated by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), only to be “acquitted” under very questionable circumstances?

Why does the Road Development Agency (RDA) report directly to State House? Why are there leaked bank statements in the public domain suggesting that large sums of money have been paid into the president’s personal bank account, allegedly as inducements to award multi-million Dollar road construction contracts? Why have Chinese Companies suddenly become the darlings of the PF when prior to 2011, they were accused of corrupt dealings with the MMD Government? Why was a banquet thrown for these companies when they were targets of threats to be repatriated upon PF getting into power? Who is really benefitting from the celebrated “unprecedented infrastructure development projects” of the PF?

Why is there a deeply entrenched culture of lawlessness in the PF, such that Mr Kabimba is now publicly confessing to illegally smuggling in Kenyans to conduct Parallel Voter Tabulation during the 2011 elections without the knowledge of the Electoral Commission of Zambia? Why is illegal land-grabbing from innocent Zambians by PF cadres being tolerated by the PF Government which is wasting time and resources by appointing an unproductive Lands Commission of Enquiry? Why are PF Ministers arguing and contradicting each other in public?

We shall leave it to the Zambians to answer these questions.

The New MMD stands on a platform of honesty, morality and integrity. We shall endeavor to be truthful in managing the affairs of our people. We will at all costs avoid the temptation, which the PF has fallen into, of making sweet, exaggerated but unattainable promises to our people. When faced with difficult decisions, we will tell the people of Zambia the truth about what can and cannot be done. We will not promise to do things in “90 Days”.

We wish to remind Zambians that Mr Kabimba’s accusations are just another chapter in the vicious ongoing campaign to destroy the MMD through various machinations that include targeting its Members of Parliament, telling outright lies and spreading misinformation. Even prior to the 2011 elections, Zambians were subjected to an endless bombardment of attacks and accusations against the MMD through a vicious, widespread and malicious propaganda campaign.

Instead of focusing on bringing the much-promised development, PF are wasting time and tax-payer money sponsoring divisions within MMD while publicly pretending that MMD is a dead party. If MMD is dead, why is so much effort being put into destroying it?

The PF party President Michael Sata on 31st October 2012 as reported by ZANIS acknowledged that the biggest threat to the PF Government is the MMD. He said “… there is a big vacuum; we are on a big MMD volcano….” Needless to say, he was right.

The New MMD will continue emerging victorious from each and every attack from the PF which thrives on deception, falsehoods and extreme exaggeration to win cheap popularity from unsuspecting nationals. We shall never be put down or destroyed. Every attack is like an exercise of a muscle that makes us stronger and bigger and is leading to renewed public support. The MMD is being purified by fire, removing all the chaff and producing pure gold.

MMD stands ready when re-elected to hit the ground running from day one due to its vast knowledge and experience.

Zambians, we urge you to never experiment again.

  1. Only God knows what kind of medication Wynter Kabimba is now on. Whatever it is, it is not doing him any good. In fact, there is overwhelming evidence that his brain is fried by this reckless attempt to paint himself innocent and a leader. The only thing Kabimba has done with passion is seat on the people’s constitution and the protection of his thieving friends especially, while hounding all those whom he perceived to be threats to his miserable ego without political base.

Kabimba is a paragon of corruption, lies and hatred with a very weak political stand and monumentally incompetent personality. He is confused to his end period. Be reminded of Luke 6:43, “No good tree bears bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit. He is a bad fruit.

    • Dr Mumba, I personally have not forgotten those slavery days of Kk and now the PF 3 years of Craziness so far, I can’t imagine what Zambia would look like in 10 years in PF at the pace we are going?

  2. Red lips kabimba has stopped taking his aids medication hence the stupidity although his a naturally born fool.

  3. Winter is acting President of Zambia. Thank goodness; we now know what he will work like if confirmed president. One party state, brutalising citizens with divergent views, localising education, name calling, withdrawal of corruption investigations, sit on the constitution making process, protect his praise singers regardless and say nothing about how to improve the economy etc, etc…

Well, he is lengtheing his CV and at least we have something to scrutinse when he comes round to ask for votes from us.

  4. MMD had their time and now we need a new broom with proven economic magagement skills- Aleisa Aleisa! Aka HH. How can you hit the ground running when you have new members? Are you planning to call back the likes of Magande? If not, then you will have new leaders and it is an experiment too. We don’t want experiments anymore with the economy. But the piece given to Wynter is spot on.

    • Jack, you don’t know what you are talking about. See if you can recognise these names: Situmbeko Musokotwane, Kabinga Pande, Mwansa Mbulakulima, Ronnie Shikapwasha, Bradford Machila, Eustarckio Kazonga, Felix Mutati, Geoffrey Lungwangwa, etc. Are you the only one who does not know they are former ministers who are still in the MMD NEC?

  5. The BEMBA machinery has gone into full gear attacking KABIMBA. When it was CHIKWANDA acting nobody criticised, no matter how Sata left the country. We know you Bembas now, and you will never con anybody again. And don’t even bother with Kabimba. If I were you, I would worry about HH. Attacking Kabimba is like fighting over bones after the meal has been eaten…there is HH and he is coming. Don’t even s.h.i.t there saying Kabimba is hated by the whole country…the only parts of the country that hate Kabimba is the NORTH and their Chipata houseboys. DO YOU honestly think that Kabimba ALONE went against EVERYBODY in PF and forced the ZAF and Zambia Army Commanders who are Bemba to pay allegiance to him as acting president – without Sata’s approval? What kind of s.t.u.p.i.d.i.t.y is that?

    • HH is not popular in Northern, Luapula, Muchinga, Eastern, Copperbelt, Central and Lusaka provinces and you expect him to become President. Southern Province taught Zambians how to vote. Forget UPND became a tribal party after the death of Graeat Mazoka.

    • @Fishmonger-Your tribal inferioty complex wilL kill you. It’s not about tribe, but once capability of doing good for the country.Kabimba is self seeking and behaves like a small Hitler of Zambia. With your Hakaivotela Heka(HH),arguing about him is a waste of time and energy.2016 is coming and it shall show clearly whether yo man will be at State House-So for now just put your tribal sentiments side and stay sober hating no any other tribe including Bemba.

  6. Well spoken President MUMBA. You are truly the only hope for Zambai and SATA, a bemba president is very well aware of this.

For those saying Magande needs to be brought back. That’s a fallacy. That’s what MAGANDE thought that RB would beg him when he resigned from MMD. RB said there are other people. MUSOKOTWANE’S came in and was even better. Even beyond Musokorwanw, there are other people.

No one should feel indispensable. There are always other people. UPND supporters do not be shaken by President Mumba’s statement. Just coach your candidate to be presidential like Nevers. Let the people judge for themselves.

  7. I was waiting to hear from Elias Chipimo, Brig. Gen. Godfrey Miyanda, Dr. Nevers Mumba etc on the state of affairs in our nation. This confusion cannot be allowed to continue. The PF government should stop treating the citizens like kids. The communication should be clear on matters of national importance e.g.
    • the president’s health,
    • the ceremonial vice president,
    • when we shall get a permanent Chief Justice,
    • the K 14 billion DBZ loan,
    • the endless loans (and what the expected limits are) etc.

    We can’t continue on autopilot.

    • @D day-Always a sewer mouth.Your hatred for Dr Mumba will kill you. That’s why with your hatred you have, you become blind to the true things said concerning Kabimba’s un founded utterances about MMD.What Dr Mumba has said is the truth.Your D-day is comimg when you shall be no more for any more sewer comments.

  8. Iwe, Nevers ulelanda ati “We not only brought back multi-party politics” kwati ekowali! You think we suffer from selective amnesia like you. Why is it that you do not want to be reminded of the corruption that was endemic during the MMD rule?

    • @Kano ngaebo-Let it sink into your thick head that MMD unlike other Parties is an Institution. So when Dr Mumba says ‘we’,he means MMD as an Institution. Many MMD founder members may not be there, but the MMD as an Institution Party shall live on (remain). That’s why MMD shall not die, because it outlives individuals.Other Political Parties are personal to holder, once that man is not there, the chances of that party surviving is zero-Sata is PF,PF is Sata,FDD is Milupi.Milupi is FDD.Mlongoti is PP,PP is Mlongoti,KK was UNIP-that’s why UNIP is dead. With UPND,I don’t know what it will become without a Tonga at the top-that’s why UPND is Tonga,Tonga is UPND.

  9. ba Mumba av respect for u so much and i would be very hapay if contnud with your own party not mmd the party everyone knows caused a lot of damage to the country the party with its ministers buring huge sums stolen money underground, the party which stole money and printed campaign meterials more than people can dress.i think ba NEVERS u ar above n smart than.u shud av jst distanced yourself from dis dirt party which is bringing a lot of problems and turnishing youra image.

    • @Seniormostman-These are the same things Dr Mumba is talking about. You’re also talking about MMD stealing when both PF and UPND are poaching from the same so-called corrupt party-what hypocricy?.Leadership change can change a lot of things. If you recall, the performance of the late Levy was quite good.there was some disciplibe among the Govt officials. So the New MMD under the Leadership of Dr Mumba can bring some sanity away from these Zambian toxic politics.

  10. @ ba fishmonger

let me ask u some question
where du u liv first of all?
2 av u traveled to other provinces and sen the political mud apart from southern province the home upnd and HH?
and du know dat u need all the suport from other province to win an election not only SP?
3 ar u so dull to notice that upnd cant win in 2016 because it has no proper structures in other province apar SP?.
anyway upnd is known for being not gud at lidn de political mud thats y dey owaz lose and i cant get suprised by your tha u ar wining in 2016.

  11. Fishmonger, know this. With Sata gone, the entire Luapula, Northern, Copperbelt, Lusaka are shifting to MMD.

Since the great statesman Andy Mazoka died, may his soul rest in peace, you brought in the nonsence that a UPND president has to be Tonga. You alienated people like Patrick Chisanga, Lubinda, Bob Sichinga, Sakwiba Sikota and all those who Mazoka respected.
To gain national appeal, go for a 50+ convention like Nevers did, not just using your money. That is why his special assistant is Tonga, his biggest vote from Southern Provinve. Very soon, Lungwangwa will be VP for MMD. That is a national party. Nevers has no time for tribalism.

  12. @Jack-When you say that MMD had their time, you’re right. At least they had time to try policies that work and not and also certain atittudes which were wrong, and they paid a price of being voted out.Now to experiment again with un tested Economic New Brooms(Policies) will not be necessary. We will waste time more time experimenting. It’s better to go for the team which will hit the Economic Development Road, wihout expertimenting because they already travelled that route.VIVA Dr Mumba,VIVA New MMD,VIVA Faithful MMD Members.

  13. @Katongo Nsambe-I agree with you, infact the MMD top leadership not appointed but elected are:Dr Mumba-President(Bemba). Mr Mpande-Chairman(N/W),Mr Keembe-V/Chairman(S/P),Muhabi Lungu-S/General(E/P).Only that Kaingu(Lozi) and Chituwo(C/P) messed up. MMD has a real national character, not window dressing top UPND leadership through appointments like Dr Canisius Banda,Mutale Nalumango,William Banda etc.

  14. Mumba, mwaice, you did a great write-up. But, do not slow down. We would like to get another one tomorrow. Remember, while you have been given tough time canvasing for your party, do both travel in the provinces as well as giving us very good write-ups like the one you just gave us today. Some leadership must get Zambia back to where it had started improvements and appreciated by the World over and the World Bank. Ciza uli?
