Female condoms run out in Kaputa

The Kaputa District AIDS Task Force (DATF) says there is a shortage of female condoms in the district.

ZANIS reports from Kaputa that District AIDS Coordination Advisor (DACA) Charity Mulubwa attributed the shortage of the female condoms to increased demand by women.

Ms. Mulubwa said women in Kaputa have taken a liking to female condoms more than they used to previously.

She added that the district has been recording an increase in the number of condoms distributed.

She explained that Kaputa DATF recently received a consignment of one box of female condoms containing 1,000 packs and two boxes of male condoms containing 2,000 packs but the female condoms have already run out.

Ms. Mulubwa said this during the Organization Capacity Assessment (OCA) meeting between Kaputa DATF team and officials from the National AIDS Council (NAC) and SHARE II in Kaputa yesterday.

She revealed that the district is also conducting a life skills training programme for youths.

Meanwhile, Kaputa DATF Chairperson Fenston Katai said the introduction of Antiretroviral Treatment Therapy (ART) has helped reduce the number of terminally ill patients in the district.

He said this has also seen the abolishment of the home based care facility as a lot of people are mobile and have no problems to warrant the home based care facility to continue.

Mr. Katai added the child grant money which the department of Social Welfare is giving has also contributed to reducing the social impact of the HIV/AIDS disease.
