Four political party members of the Opposition Alliance (OA) have pledged to support the opposition MMD in the forthcoming September 11th Parliamentary by-elections.

The Alliance which comprises the MMD, ABZ, PP, APC and ZDDM recently resolved to be fielding one candidate in future by-elections between then and 2016.

Alliance coordinator Frank Bwalya has disclosed to Qfm news that the decision to support the MMD in all five September 11th Parliamentary by-elections is due to the fact that four out of the five vacant parliamentary seats belonged to the former ruling party.

Father Bwalya, who is also ABZ president, says the four opposition political parties that have pledged to rally the behind the MMD are determined to do everything possible to ensure the former ruling party wins the by-elections in which other political parties such as the ruling PF and UPND are contesting.

He says the idea is to ensure that the Alliance’s members continue having more seats in Parliament to make certain that good laws that are of the benefit of the Zambia are enacted.

He has further disclosed that the Alliance is still working on the modalities of coming up with one leader who will be the President of the Alliance.

    • This so called opposition alliance is just a grouping of dead political parties that have no impact on the political scene. PF is aware of this fact and that is why they are focusing all their energies on UPND.

    • Next move will be to co-opt all these ine neka parties into the PF with the promise ministerial jobs and money. Its a pity all these tu ma ine neka parties will not change MMD’s political fortunes.

So the battle is now between PF + Ine neka parties against UPND.

  1. It is fine to do it in this way and if UPND pulls through, or comes second then we shall all agree that 2016 UPND will scoop the presidency. In Solwezi let voters give chance Mulusa Lucky so that he continues to give pleasure to PF.

    • The people of Solwezi will be foolish to vote for Lucky Mulusa. The guy has not done anything for the people of Solwezi Central. And what is this that will make him even this time. I am sure this time the people will vote for a different candidate. Does he feed all the people of Solwezi Central??? Any challenger to this hopeless guy?

  2. UPND is the party of choice right now.. MMD is like old leaves that have fallen from a tree and cannot be stuck back. A tree requires new leaves for good fruiting. We need youthful leaders.

  3. All the four alliance party leaders are from one regional block and this just tell you how they want to consolidated power. come 2016 they will actually all be supporting PF becuase they dont people from other regions to rule as well. to them its not about credibility but regionalism

  4. CONGRATULATIONS ALLIANCE!! DONT BE MISLED BY MANGANGO RESULT OF MMD. THERE WERE MILLIONS OF UNDERHAND METHODS AT PLAY WHICH WILL DEFINATELY EMERGE SOONER OR LATER.

  5. ….that’s a joke….how can you claim to be 5/6 parties coming together to support one when on your own you literally have no followers..??

    • Alliances??

No. Let them fight it out. At the moment UPND appears to be the party of choice after PF which has spoiled its chances of a 2nd term by arrogance of its leaders.

  6. All these SMALL PARTIES have NO STRUCTURES its a joke they r just a name & by the way is FDD ? MOREOVER LET them loose terribly. MMD wont win any seat in these Elections.

  7. Good announcement but wrong idea. Warnig: You may not take the results of the 4 seats as a true indicator of the effectiveness of the allinace, as that would cause you heartaches in the future; the areas you are entering may be MMD’s only remaining seats!

    • Let each party test its popularity. MMD had its chance to rule for 20 years and was only woke up in 2010/11. Yes, most of the projects being implemented by PF were initiated by MMD but they did not implement. They had 20 years and they (especially Mr Mulongoti and Ms Dora Siliya) only specialised in making fun of the opposition and took Zambians for granted. UPND, ABAZ, FDD and NAREP appear to be the parties that need to be given a chance to campaign and get known in these by-elections in preparation for the main contest against PF in 2016. PF has refused to give us a new constitution and wants to return Zambia to one-party state using the public order Act. There is need for a strong opposition and not chancers.

  8. i hate the reporting of a tribal media called Watch dog regarding this story. Upnd is a tribe party please zambians dont vote for a tonga party. MMD or PF shoud carry the day. I want thank fred mmembe for exposing a regional party upnd. am luvale based in choma, i know these animals the way they think no matter how mich they are educated you can not remove the from the cows den.

  9. Good news.

    • @ 15: pure Luvales don’t have diluted brains like yours and do not insult other tribes as you have done. What is tribal about UPND and what is not tribal about PF? The fact that the leader of UPND is Tonga does not make it tribal. Why are you not referring to other parties which are also dominated by people from one region as tribal? No wonder Zambia shall remain backward because some of the people who live in it (quite a large number) do not think with their brains like you at 15 calling yourself wynter kabimba. Debate issues in a mature way and convince others with your argument if it is sound.

  10. Father Bwalya should have a focused mind..just few years ago he was condemning the MMD and today he is joining hands to campaign for them..I think Zambians are smart;we have learnt our lessons, no politician will blind fold us

    • PF has also been accused of being tribal, even by its own senior members. At least the Lozis, Luvales, Nkoyas, Kaondea and Tongas voted for Bemba-led PF in Mufumbwe, Mangango, Livingstone and Mongu. Let us see a Tonga-led party voted for in Luapula, Northern and Muchinga. Come on guys, enough of attacking and demonising our fellow Zambians in Southern province. Is it because of their hard work that other tribes have resorted to envy and hate them? Stop the tribal song. It is not doing Zambia any good.

    • @let me say this, I don’t mean to be tribal but let me tell you this: not all Tongas are tribal but a majority of them are! If you are a neighbor to a Tonga, you will most likely never shake hands with him. They are closed up and unfriendly. Those who have been @ UNZA will agree with me that Tongas consider those from the northern region as dull and unwelcome. They don’t mingle easily with other tribes. Actually they are about 90% responsible for teaching other tribes to be tribal. Don’t get offended about what I have sided but it is the truth I have seen. Lady Tongas, on the other hand, are different. I am not Bemba but I have no problem voting for a Tonga but they should REALLY remove that tribal tag. It is what everyone is scared of; how will Tongas behave once in power?
