Finally President Michael Sata has admitted that children in this country go without food. He said this on Saturday in Mkushi South on Saturday by faking concern about the plight of the children that were paraded to attend his rally.
This confirms what UPND have been saying that there is hunger in this country. It has always been our position that mealie meal and prices of other essential commodities have gone up, beyond the reach of most Zambian families. This upwards price adjustment was exacerbate by the removal of maize and fuel subsidies. Mkushi South is rural, therefore when you find people that go without three meals a day; it spells a disastrous agriculture policy being pursued by the PF government. How else can one explain the fact that on one hand we are celebrating a bumper harvest while on the other, children are going about without food and have to be paraded for Mr. Sata to make political capital. Parading children in front of cameras for a head of state to make political capital is outright immoral.
That statement from Sata surely shows that he and his Government do not know how to reduce hunger and poverty for the majority of Zambians, he better continue his vacation in state house at tax payers expense or vacate office.
I have covered the country by road from Vubwi and Kasenengwa in Eastern Province, then proceeded to Mkushi in Central province and I am now in the remotest parts of Zambia in Solwezi and Zambezi West. The last time I took this trail, people were not this poor, but in the last three years, the poverty Mr. Sata and his PF government have caused the people of Zambia is unacceptable.
Mr. Sata has the luxury of flying over these problems, those of us that travel by road meet children and adults in dire need of good agriculture policies as well as basic social services such as health care, education, water and sanitation. It is such a pity that three years in office, Mr. Sata has lamentably failed to address problems those children and their parents are facing due to poor Governance and poor policies which are self serving.
It is actually cheap politicking by Mr. Sata to be mocking those children that they are hungry and the vulnerable in society when he is the one who put them in that situation. What is also disheartening is this emerging culture where politicians, especially those in government, have now resorted to taking advantage of the same people they have made poor, by offering them bribes during elections so that they can vote for them, a situation which is killing democracy.
One would expect Mr. Sata and his PF government to be offering solutions to the majority of the vulnerable in society instead of parading and humiliating them publicly as the case was on Saturday in Mkushi South. Fellow politicians let us desist from behaving in a manner that puts our fellow citizens in a predicament and public embarrassment.

Govt will not cut and run away from its responsibilities & under five is trying to make cheap political capital out of nothing.
When you are an underfive, you are a political neonate, a nondescript, who can pee & poop in your diapers while being breastfed and be happy like nothing has happened.

Electorate, I totally agree with you. I find most of comments by HH irritating because he just attacks but no solutions. Another thing, if you scrutinize his statements, he likes copying Nevers. Last week HH attacked the Minister of Finance on the $ 115 million unused loan from World Bank. Just an attack but no solution.
But when Nevers commented on the issue, it had substance and said the reason the PF Government was failing was because they fired almost all senior experieenced government officials. And its true. I remeber Kabimba threatening to fire civil servants because they were MMD supporters frustrating PF policies. Nevers also said the Ministry of Agriculture has two Permanent Secretaries, and two Deputy ministers. I learnt something. But HH just shoots
HH is neither member of the ruling party nor paid adviser to the current administration which starting from top to bottom has failed to understand NEEDS of more than 90% of population and instead insist in “infrastructure development” for benefit of half-baked contractors and theirs associated advisers.

Why should HH offer solutions for Sata. Sata was voted into power because of his promises – more money in the pocket bla bla bla. Dear Zambians, if Mr Hichilema is the answer, what is the question? Once again, Mr H does what he does best; criticise without giving viable alternative solutions. He had criticised the removal of subsidies on fuel and mealie meal, but he does not state how much this would cost and where he would get the money from and even have extra to fund improved healthcare, infrastructure, education, sanitation, access to water and free agriculture inputs which he has promised. Moreover, how do the rural dwellers benefit from subsidised mealie meal if they grow their own maize? Fuel; they don’t drive cars or use mechanised farming methods? How will poverty be alleviated for these people? His policies just do NOT add up.
HH is not revealing his secrets as some dunder heads may copy and claim it was their idea….. Let PF sort it out or is it Chimbwi no plan.

Concur…..that is the way HH needs to up his game. After telling us the problem; he must formulate and suggest which policy must be followed to resolve the issue. Can welfare give him and street children outfits from salula (second hand clothes/thrift traders)? Perhaps a welfare grant for clothes and food. Should the gov’t give out maize meal to poor families? Something like that. That is a nice picture of a beautiful boy, but HH left him behind in exactly the same state in relation to what he has NOT done as opposition leader. If HH wants to be President he must show original thought. His ideas will convince us to give him a go.

Its amazing to see the type of sharp criticism HH is receicing from PF cadres. They want him ti give them solutions. Its good that you have admitted you have no solutions for the country. Juleps, opposition must always analyse what the party in power is doing. State if it is wrong, then suggest what they would do. From that, voters then know whom to vote for.

For HH one can never know how popular or unpopular he is because he has fallen into the trap of stage-managing everything. The callers on every radio talk show are all stage meanaged and we now know their names…Proud, Mulando, Muchindu etc… listen out for any Tonga accent and you can easily recognize them because they cannot pronounce the word IMPORTANT instead they say IMPONTANT.
The Mandevu rally I believe was stagemanaged as there were many bus-loads of people from Southern Province. His ‘ARRIVAL’ for campaigns are stage-managed by paying poor minibus and taxi drivers to create a ‘thunderous’ welcome. Dont take him seriously. MCS knew why he named him ‘under-five.’
