GOVERNMENT is scaling up various developmental projects in Southern Province with the latest being awarding of a K230 million contract for upgrading of the Monze-Niko Road.
The 73-kilometre road project, which would be upgraded to bituminous standard, was expected to be flagged-off by President Michael Sata on September 20, this year.

Monze District Commissioner Biggie Mwiinde, who confirmed the development, also said Government had awarded BSK Construction limited a K97 million contract to tar 15 kilometres of selected urban roads in Monze.

In an interview, Mr Mwiinde said Government awarded a joint contract to BuildCon Zambia limited and Unikjve Construction Limited to tar the Monze-Niko Road from its current gravel state.

“Government is carrying out infrastructure developments in Monze and upgrading of Monze-Niko road will cost K229, 969,699.96 while the 15 kilometres of selected township roads in Monze will cost a total of K96, 908,966.55,” he said.

Mr Mwiinde said the contractors working on Monze-Niko road were currently making a temporal road to be used by motorists during upgrading of the main road.

He said the contractors had already worked on a stretch of 35 kilometres of the temporal road from Monze-Niko road main junction to Lubiya Dam in Chieftainess Choongo’s area.

He said the tarring of Monze-Niko road which pass through Bweengwa Constituency up to Niko junction connecting Namwala road, would be the first time since Independence.

He said, once the Monze-Niko road was tarred, it would reduce long distances people covered from Namwala to Choma enroute to Lusaka due to current poor state of the road.

He said the road would easy transportation of agricultural products and access to Lochnivar National park located on the south-side of Kafue River, about 45 kilometres from Monze town.

On the township roads, Mr Mwiinde said BSK Construction Limited had already started upgrading 15 kilometres of the selected urban road in Monze.

Mr Mwiinde said the contractor was currently tarring the President’s Avenue and the Independence Roads in which 80 per cent of the roads works had been done.

Other roads include Lweengu, Fair which connects to Monze’s Golf grounds, Kwacha and Sinaluchaba Streets which would cover Monze main market.

He said the township road project would be completed before January next year, which signified Government’s commitment in improving people’s lives and job creations.

  1. Its good to see you sir working and back on your feet, may the good lord fully restore your health Mr president. Much as I am upnd I am very glad nd happy to see the president feeling better.

    • I’m also happy mwe.

A dead president is no good to anyone. Maybe with his new ‘thinking cap’ he can consider replacing some of those 2,500 relatives and churchmates with real professionals?

      Katwishi….

    • Ok, I just read the first paragraph again and it says “…., was expected to be flagged-off by President Michael Sata on September 20, this year.”

The “was” means it won’t be him. It was supposed to be Sata but someone else will.

    • I think it is not good idea, Ba Sata is not that strong yet. Just 2 outings in month is enough… Mkushi and opening of Parliament.
All those flagging off can be done by people like HH, Munkombwe or some ambassador. Yes involve ambassadors too, honor them.

    • Just when you thought the man is dead a.k.a ‘vegetative state ‘ by ZWD or is it katapa state? Michael Chilufya Sata..Defying the Odds since 2008! I think God has a great purpose for this man, reminds me of saul in the bible.

    • I ve seen through these scheming guys.

They are just trying to find a way to waive Sata’s opening of Parliament on the 19th which is a 5 hour strenuous and demanding activity. By create an alternative, Sata’s smart handlers can easily still explain to the Zambians that Sata is “fit and discharging his duties normally” though he decided to delegate the opening of Parliament. Can’t you see he managed traveled to Monze. (Though it will only be a 3 minute affair)

  2. Easy does it Sata. You proved a point ku Mkushi. I suggest you just open parliament and then hibernate again because truth be told, you still look like you need a lot of rest.

  3. God is with you Mr Sata what ever people can say I’m happy you back 100 percent we like you Mr president you are working very hard to your country Zambia ,

  4. God is great! Who can understand God’s goodness and mercy. When men write you off, He still says ‘you will make it’. He raises the dead and brings down the proud and pompous. God has done it for our President and who can reverse it. He is the Almighty God the owner of life, He is the God that answers prayer. We prayed for our beloved man of action HE MCS and God heard us. Our friends from ZWD must learn to live in love not in bitterness. God is Love. Where there no love there no God. The rest judge for yourselves. Long Live our President, Long Live Michael Chilufya Sata. We love you.

    • I agree that a miracle of whatever is happening in his life, but his illness was not in any way caused by the ZWD; NO! The ZWD only helped to highlight this plight, so that the Zambian people would understand what followed thereafter, so do not demonise them. Imagine if there was no ZWD, and we all did not know HE was sick; and then he disappears for that long, and reappear as emanciated as he did, what would have happened, given the silence and denial on the part of the govt? People had a better understanding of why the president appeared and acted the way he has because of ZWD! Even now, as he is paraded around, we can understand his seemingly unstable nature due to ZWD. Therefore, rather demonise the ZWD, let us read it and sift, for a general idea of the state of the nation!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Dont try to make ZWD a hero.. lets put the facts right, the dogs had declared him dead on june 20th. dont try to defend the udefendable.

  5. “He said the tarring of Monze-Niko road which pass through Bweengwa Constituency up to Niko junction connecting Namwala road, would be the first time since Independence”, There goes my Man of Action. Zambia shall be transformed really to a real middle income country. None of the ZWD or UPND bloggers have commented or acknowledged this significant development. SHAME

    • This is laughable – that one expects the so-called ZWD or UPND bloggers to heap praise your man action, for what the govt is doing, as part of its purpose for existence! What does the govt exist for, if not for providing such basic services? Isn’t it just the same fellows who neglected to do so when in UNIP and MMD? Funny! The other day, of all the people, Rupia was trying to shift blame for non-payment of Grey Zulu’s terminal benefits to PF, expressing surprise that the benefits were not paid all this long (including his recent five years in govt) when his govt did nothing either. Petty African Politics!

  6. Dude Sata has not transformed our nation into a middle class, and besides it’s not his money he is spending let him not fool you we sacrificed subsidies, we are in more debt
Now, prices on most consumables has gone up, most people don’t have food to eat. The
People of Zambia need to be applauded too for their sacrifice too and they are the ones to pay off these loans, let me remind you not all our roads are good majority of them are bad except for a few select politician want to use for their propaganda

    • waba ichatile swaini iwe die with your anger .go go man of action you are even taking developments to the tribe that doesn’t appreciate you .show them we love you sir viva pf

  7. I wonder you people if you do not go on annual leave. The President is also entitled to an annual leave. He is human. One thing you should also put in your mind is that as long as you are not popular in Eastern, Central, Lusaka, Copperbelt, Luapula, Muchinga and Northern Provinces can not be a President of Zambia. Do not forget Southern Province taught Zambian how to vote. Mazoka was almost winning before Regional voting kicked in.

    • We do go on annual leave but not for three months neither do we lie about it telling all and sundry that we are “fit and working”! Sata is a very ill man.

  8. Well done PF this project will significantly improve southern province . The 15 kilometre urban road project may require consultation with different stakeholders but politics should not be entertained.

  9. Well done Sir! The english adge goes “silence is golden”…you have not said anything negative to those who assumed you dead, now they see you working! Please work on the Kalomo-Chikanta Road also….God be with you Sir!

  10. @BF That is which I don’t watch amadogs in Zambia and too bad for those who who go their to. Also, wina wamene alibe Nzelu, azamwalila! Long live Mr. President and God bless you!

  11. The proper and correct name for that stretch of the road is “Monze – Chitongo Road”. Nichopolous or Nicholas or Nico was a Greek trader who had a trading post or shop at that junction. Properly stated, Nico is a slang appelation. Can we please maintain proper nouns in official communications and records!!!!! Please!!!!

  12. But some people really hate Sata too much. I guess when you wish someone death it always comes back to you, multiplied. Where is WANZELU with the 10000 comments saying the President died on June 20 at 0200? Where is ZWD and HH? Busy hiding away from reality and looking for funding from anyone who is still gullible enough to believe they represent anything other than their own power-hungry stomachs. Try your luck in 2016 and in 2021, within the laws of Zambia. And be grateful to freedom fighters like Sata that the opportunity even exists for you to exercise your right to campaign and vote for your own government
