Nkana beat ten-man Power Dynamos 2-0 to advance to the Barclays Cup semifinals.
The Kitwe derby transplanted to Lusaka for the Barclays Cup quarterfinals at Nkoloma Stadium did not disappoint with both sides trading punches in the first five minutes.
Jimmy Ndhlovu first minute shot was saved by Rabson Muchelenganga.
Power goalkeeper Joshua Titima then parried Ronald Kampamba’s shot and saved for Festus Mbewe in the 3rd and 4th minutes respectively.
However, Titima did not have much luck thereafter and felt the quality of Kampamba in the 18th minute when the striker chipped the ball over him to put Nkana ahead.
Two minutes later, midfielder Kelvin Mubanga whipped in a fine free kick to put Nkana in commanding lead of the contest.
Kampamba could have added a brace in the 35th minute but failed to properly control the ball and elected to fire wide instead.
Power failed to really trouble Nkana although Alex Ngonga’s diving header in the 61st minute as good as they got on the day against their bitter Kitwe rivals.
Power were later reduced to ten men in the 77th minute when defender Billy Mutale was red carded by referee Jan Sikazwe for a crude tackle on Lottie Nyimbili.
However, TV replay suggested that Mutale missed Nyimbili and instead went for the ball with his two-footed challenge
Nkana meanwhile, qualify to the semifinal for the first time since 2011 as they chase their quest for a first Barclays Cup final appearance.
The 2013 league champions are also one of three Copperbelt sides in the last four joining
Zesco United and Konkola Blades in the semifinals while Napsa Stars is the only side from the Midlands still in the competition.

Kalampa Ebabako. Eyo Twali mifunda.
Now tell me, which country leaves out of its national team it’s top 2 highest scorers in the local league? Other than their precision at goal, what other criteria is used in the whole worl to select strikers? Awe Kwena ine mwandi BA FAZ mulampapisha…. Every time logic turs to the RIGHT you go LEFT! It’s called LUNACY!!!!!
To be honest, Bola.. Height plays a role in strikers, when it comes to playing against taller defenders their skills fades out. And lack of playing in front of large crowds is an additional hinderance..
Messi is not tall, quality speaks louger, Sate sate should have been put in the chipolopolo squard
FAZ is a directionless organization. This is an organization which has done something unprecedented in the history of AFCON – leaving out the second largest city, Kitwe, from hosting the cup! No country in Africa that has hosted AFCON has ever done this. When I asked one very senior FAZ official why they did this, he failed to answer my question convincingly but just mumbled something unintelligible about soccer fans in Kitwe being violent! These FAZ guys are hopeless. That’s why I am not surprised that they can leave out a lethal striker like Sate Sate from the national team.
Thanks Kalampa,
Sate Sate deserves a place in Chipolopolo
To Nkana FC we say, bon voyage in the Barclays Cup race. To fellow Power Dynamos supporters I say let us accept that football is about losing and winning. We did our best to carry the day but the “gods were not on our side.”
