Veteran politician Matoka buried

Veteran politician and academician Peter Matoka has been buried in his home village in Mwinilunga district of the North Western province.

And government has paid tribute to Dr Matoka describing him as a loyal and dedicated man who served the nation with diligence.

Home Affairs Minister Ngosa Simbyakula said the late Dr Matoka was a passionate leader who exhibited exemplary skills in his contribution to the liberation struggle of the country’s political independence and when he served in different government portfolios.

Dr Simbyakula was speaking in Mwinilunga today during the burial of Dr Matoka at Kawiko village.

He said government recognizes and appreciates the great contribution the late Dr Matoka made to the country’s political struggle adding that Zambia is this year celebrating its 50 years of political independent due to the sacrifices he made with other freedom fighters in the country.

Dr Simbyakula has since encouraged Zambian youths who are the future leaders to emulate the late Dr Matoka’s good works of loyalty and dedication if they are to contribute positively to national peace and unity.

And Senior Chief Ishindi’s representative Brigadier General Kenneth Kankinza appealed to government to construct a University in the North Western province in honor of the late Dr Matoka.

Brig Gen Kankinza said as an academician, Dr Matoka contributed significantly to the development of the education sector in the country hence the need to honor his works.

And responding to the appeal, Dr Simbyakula assured the people that government plans to construct a University collage of Science and mathematics in the province have advanced.

He said money for the project has already been sourced adding that what was remaining is only to identify a site, constructor and designing the project.

Dr Matoka who died last week on Friday 13th September was a veteran politician, former freedom fighter and an academician who served in the First Republic as Minister of Information and Postal services among other ministerial positions in Government and in the diplomatic service.

  1. Shaa whatever your name is you need to read history and find out who did what when it comes to Zambian Politicians.

This man was the first Minister of Information in first cabinet. Records are there for you to see what the man did. Do not just comment for the sake of commenting but have facts. The current leaders must emulate such men who stood for the nation even under very difficult times.

    May God deliver you.

  2. Hamba kahle tata Matoka! Go well our grand father, father and uncle. You were a giant yet humble son of the soil. We wish at one point in time, the Lord will give more of your kind to mother Zambia. You did your part and did it well.
