Hjoe Moono
In Sunday 28th ’s editorial, the Post newspaper continues its attack of Finance Minister Alexander Chikwanda (ABC) by citing the illegally recorded conversation of Hon. Chikwanda and the Post’s ‘Other Person’. The paper eulogises Dr. Scott and even has, on their front page, a headline reading: “Luapula backs Scott”, and continues to label ABC as a man without morals and absurdly asks if “Chikwanda has usurped presidential powers by the back door”, whatever that means. All this is based on private, privileged and confidential home discussions which the Post illegally recorded.
The paper downplays its grievous violation of the country’s laws by invading an individual’s privacy and now making a fortune through selling such illegally acquired information. Funny enough the editorial says ABC should not question the morality of the illegal recordings which invaded his privacy but should rather apologise. As absurd as this may sound to any sane person, that is what the paper said! It’s grossly absurd, silly, and strange, that the Post, which clearly has a case to answer here, is telling the nation that its conduct and behaviour should not be questioned because they feel they are doing Zambians a favour by “giving the Zambian people an opportunity to see through Chikwanda”.
Fair enough, in 2013 the Post wrote glaring praises of ABC, and we all saw through ABC as a man who is loyal, dedicated, and disciplined in his work and service to the nation. Even when the economy was nose diving, all was well as the Post did not see the need to speak ill of ABC. Now when the economy is on recovery, the exchange rate stable (though depreciated), suddenly ABC is the devil we should be wary of as per the Post’s ‘new illegal private recording assessment’?
Clearly, such shape shifting by the Post should not get them any sympathy, it would be absurd to sympathise with a business that abuses people’s lives in the guise of doing the nation a favour by invading their privacy, and then selling such to make a profit. God would, and should punish any sane person that sympathises with a business that has no respect for the lives, families and privacies of citizens, a paper that sees itself as some form of deity and believes in the infallibility of its editors, and a business that does not pay its dues as prescribed by the law. We cannot, and should not allow to constantly be swayed in our political moods and decisions by the self-centred aims of a business that does not pay legal taxes.
The paper’s arrogance to address its dues and taking responsibility in illegally recording people’s lives and publishing these without permission is disheartening. Clearly, the reports of the past few days shows an obsessive desire to regain the people’s confidence by ill reporting of friendships that have fallen off.
If all of us were to be recorded in our private homes and bedrooms while having our good red French wines and Whiskeys, then our courts would have to operate 24 hours a day without rest.
Who has never said anything in private that they would not say in public? I certainly have said so many things about my friends, bosses, lecturers, etc etc– in private–things I would however, not say in public nor allow to be published. Morality is in our actions, actual actions, not perceived nor created by a deity run publishing house. Let matters and lectures of morality be left to those schooled and called to the duty of moral teaching: Our priests, imams, Bishops etc etc. Excessive citing of scripture to justify one’s aims is mere deceit, and clearly the use of the Lord’s name in vain and vanity pursuits is blasphemy!
The paper wants ABC to apologise, it wants him to be on knees and seek forgiveness because his house was invaded by the Post. It clearly wants ABC under its grip, they tried it in 2013 when they, like they did to Kabimba and now Dr. Scott, sung praises of ABC’s honesty, hard work, dedication, love for the nation, statesmanship, etc. Clearly ABC did not respond to their carrot dangling, he must have had better things to do than get excited with media coverage. Or perhaps he was wise enough to see through their schemes?
As the saying goes, “You cannot tell a crooked road until you see a straight one besides it”. The Post have Chikwanda on Dr. Scott, can they too publish Dr. Scott on Chikwanda? If we are indeed to harshly judge ABC’s morality as defined by the Post, can there be a counter publication of Dr. Scott’s private, privileged conversations recorded as he drinks his Scottish Whiskey and relaxing at his farm?
We cannot tell Dr. Scott’s “Private Morals” and so it will be immature for any sane person to assume that ABC is immoral. No! But we do know, however, that the now praised Dr. Scott has on record engaged publicly in tribal and racist rants. If that is anything to go by, then we cannot even imagine his private conversations.
As the Bible says: You will know them by their works, not words. The violation of individuals’ privacy and non-adherence to legal tax requirements have clearly shown us who the so called media deities truly are: An inherently unreliable and deceitful bunch of media practitioners who regard the truth as a transitory, flexible concept, which could be molded to suit their current purposes, interests and financial aims.
Finally, let us ask ourselves: Should we judge a man from his private words spoken in private and in confidence rather than his works shown in public? Clearly only a delusional and misguided deity would say yes!
Terrible nonsensical poem.
Give up hjoe
Thanks
ka mushota,waba akanena ukutikama fuseki.
Hjoe Moono’s poem is out, what about Field Ruwe’s sermon?
Sunday we had Joel & Victoria.
Thank you Hjoe Moono for this eye-opener. I will organise a job for you here at the Daily Nation, the media house of the moment.
Yaba Boyboy. Kekeke No Comment
Unless iam missing something here, Did ABC statement in anyway defame the people involved. iyi lyashi lya pa bwalwa and true Edgar waka beer elo Scot is ceremonial. Something everyone knows. The most insane thing is to record someone resting and having some fun while sipping French wine from London( lol). Mmembe ought to pay tax regardless of the record.
Iwe Moono .. u want to sound to smart here is a question for you.. What evidence do you have that the post recorded the private conversation ? Some one duped ABC and gave the recording to the post You … Memmbe , Nchito are lawyers they would be not be that stupid that’s why ABC won’t sue …. He was dribbled
Another shallow, one-sided and flawed opinion from Chikwanda’s shameless and probably paid up cadre. If morality should be left to qualified people, so should be political analysis, which is clearly out of reach for this Hjoe thing. To flog very cheap and in some instances slanderous opinions like these publicly should attract legal suits and be punishable.
Mbuzi, one can immediately notice that the so far called lawyers can only be so considered in Zambia, no further than that! Recording and publishing someone’s private conversation is illegal! The person who recorded committed a crime and the publishing committed another, so both have a case to answer. What a country where folks think this isn’t illegal? You don’t need law school…, just common sense, albeit not common to all us!
Simply put, the Post Newspapers’ morals are elastic; inconsistent, teaching that which it doesn’t believe in, shifting goal posts and as Moono said, taking the lords name in vain. Standing on the principle of do what I tell you but do not do what I do. The rule no.1 of the Post is that it is always right and No.2 is that when it is wrong, refer to rule no.1. Hypocrites of the worst order on which this word was fastioned.
If my memory serves me right, Hjoe Moono was in the forefront of demanding that Alexander Chikwanda and Michael Gondwe step down not to long ago. He like the Post that he dispises are no different and guilty of shape shifting….IMAO
Bonse chabbe niba mambala…..Mmembe, Scott and Chikwanda.
To hell with them !!!

Agreed! All are just crooks including some the commentators bashing Mr Moono. And I am sure many are not in Zambia but enjoying somewhere probably on tax-payers of Zambia
Mr Moono my brother thanks for the lecture…again well thought out and well presented. As you have written, nearly all of us can recall worse(and terrible) words used again even our closest friends and allies than the words used by ABC on all the people mentioned….Never mind what we say about our own ‘opposition’. As @ twende, all the statements are factual, yes at times hurting…..moneni apo bekala…..Infact either the Post Editor does not comprehend Bemba or did not listen to the recording in full to think that the recording would hurt ABC…it actually built him. Fortunately, this is not 1990 or 1991 when the Weekly Post was revered and taken seriously. Now it is more of a headless chicken….I doubt if any right thinking Zambian can make an opinion out what they write.
Luke 6:45 English Standard Version
The good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure produces evil, for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.
John 8:7 KJV
7 So when they continued asking Him, He lifted Himself up and said unto them, “He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.”
So this holier than thou Mmembe should be the last thing to preach about morality…
Job well Alex Chikwanda and the post newspaper for speaking your hearts out. Your are both birds of same feather who flocked together on that day.
Thanks
MEMBE – BITTER
The firing of Wynter Kabimba as minister of Justice and Secretary General of the Patriotic Front PF has angered his friend and self anointed partner in arrogance Membe. From the day Wynter Kabimba was dismissed, Membe has been writing a lot of rubbish in his tool of propaganda the post newspaper. Membe in his own stupid wisdom and shallow thinking has classified the firing of his friend as the work of the corrupt and tribalist in PF. But if I may to ask? Who are the corrupt people he has been referring to who contributed to the down fall of his friend Kabimba? Who are these corrupt people Membe is fearing to mention in his stupid editorial comments? In fact Membe is to brame for Kabimba’s dismissal. WHY? Bacause Membe wanted to use Kabimba cover the DBZ K14 billion and…
What I really don’t understand is why someone would think that what Mr Chikwanda said on that purported recording is bad, immoral or self deprecating. Unless I missed the actual recording but what I read actually made me start to like and admire the man they call ABC. So I’m at loss as to why The Post and it’s editors think that recording makes ‘ABC’ look bad and not fit for public office.
Amazing that it is the ‘criminal’ that is asking the victim to apologise and not the other way round. Surely why is ‘ABC’ not go to town on this and sue The Post‘s a$s. His inaction even in the face of these continued provocations is what is making me not liking him again.
Huge debts can compromise the good image and reputation that The Post has built for itself and the free press in the country. When it comes to prudent financial management, then no amount of attacks on individuals will redeem the paper. The only alternative is come up with a clear development strategy that will bring back the threatened glory. Recording people secretly is illegal in Zambia. It can lead to scandal and gossip but that is not good for the nation.
Actually there is no more glory at the Past! The glory has departed. They are weird frightened little monsters
Mmembe is a an idi…, that ugly thing will one day pay for his sins in very violent and excruciatingly painful way.
Mmembe has out-stepped his bounds.
whether what the post published was private or not, the fact remains that the relationship between the two will never be the same. infact bad as it may look to the above writer, sometimes its good to know who are your enemies and who are your friends because you can be stabbed at the back by a judas
You ask, “Should we judge a man from his private words spoken in private and in confidence rather than his works shown in public?” My answer is “Yes!” ABC, ‘ out of the evil treasure of his heart … his mouth [spoke].’ Clearly only a delusional, misguided and hypocritical mind would answer otherwise!
I concur. Chikwanda is a loose cannon. The legality of the tapping is besides the point.
Outstanding and crispy! Thanks.
Father Chikwanda is ignorant as FDD president mentioned. He must be substituted with someone who knows well nor wonder these guys are failing to do the right job.
The question is if it is illegal to tap Chikwanda’s private conversation, why is he reluctant to sue the Post? What is the so called ABC afraid of. There must be some hidden writting between the wall! Lets us just watch the space!
He is afraid of so many things, I reckon.
Because, ABC is being smart, instead of him being confrontational , he decided to ignore and live to fight another day, even win public sympathy ( so winning is not always suing some one’s As . Also, illegal recording is criminal offer, meaning its not the offended person who take it to court, but the state. Based on this, ABC cant sue any one for criminal of offence, since its STATE vs Offender.
I am sure the Post will be shocked to learn that the recording they gave us of Chikwanda has actually yielded the opposite results. I was actually humbled to know of what Chikwanda says about people in private. When I saw the headline, I said “OH MY”. But after reading it I told myself Chikwanda is one of the most honourable politicians or human beingz around because if calling someone “chipuba” is the worst insult he can say and in private at that, then he is an angel. You lot dont want to hear what I say about you in private.
For us who drink French ,London wine and Scotch Whiskey, what you heard in the recording is a normal conversation. What is criminal is to have a two months mourning period for a fired friend, owe DBZ 34. Million Kwacha, owe ZRA more than 24 Million Kwacha.
This one is trash from Moono. Very disappointing indeed.
The frightening reality is that Alexander Chikwanda is a Dick Cheney type of politician. He speaks for himself what he truly is. We are free to delude ourselves all we want over him. It won’t change the fabric of his make-up. The man’s inside is as he looks on the outside – evil or hatred or whatever. It is written all over his face.
George W. Bush would have done himself a great favor, had he dumped Dick Cheney. He didn’t and ended-up paying a hefty price as a result. Unfortunately for Mr. Sata, he may be too sick to alienate even an unworthy friend like Chikwanda. Unfortunately, Chikwanda’s continued stay in the PF camp is increasingly becoming an unaffordable liability. If the president remembers where he found this man, he must take him back and dump him there!
@Mei Matungu, You seem to forget a more important question. Where did Chikwanda find Sata long before Sata was even a politician of any consequence. When Fred Mmembe lost Mwanawasa to the man with the sickle and was forced to find Sata because there was no seat for Mmembe at Rupiah’s table, Chikwanda was already huge in Sata’s life, but Mmembe still does not know this.
@ICHIWEME CHI ILOMBELA UMUCHELE: You have flamboyantly painted a picture of a visionary Alexander Chikwanda, who was there in the life of President Sata even long before Sata was Sata and certainly long before his other friends had become a political factor in his life. And that, the Alexander Chikwanda of today is a man who is reaping from where he sowed and milking the cows from his own kraal.
Fair enough. However, it is a truism that Alexander Chikwanda today is the parasite and Sata is the host. Mr. Sata cannot be and should not be his puppet. Political popularity is known for its notoriously short life span. Consequently, Mr. Sata will be ill advised to allow himself to be dismembered from all his other roots, which politically, are just as important.
Hjoe Moono’s opinion on the Post is like that story about the crooks who dribbled the Emperor who liked liked good clothes. The crooks would tell everyone that if they could not see the suit they were making then they were not fit to hold public office. Ministers and govt officials who were sent by the emperor to check on progress could not see the suit but they feared to be labeled as fools not fit to hold public office until the emperor was paraded naked and it took one little boy to see that the emperor was in fact naked. This is what Mmembe has done to many Zambians that it is only the Post that can tell us what a moral life is, when he is busy stealing millions of Kwacha. It is only the Daily Nation now that is making us see what the Post. Pay tax Mmembe
Chikwanda has become a bad patatoe to the Post because the post suspect it is Chikwanda who unleashed ZRA on them.
The basic question is – is the Post owing ZRA in unpaid taxes? The Answer is Yes. Is the Post owing DBZ jointly with Mutembo – the Answer is yes. So why are they upset that ZRA went to collect their debt? Shifting their irresponsibility on the minister is childish and carelessness on their part. The justification that Times of Zambia owes K200million and ZRA has not done anything is shameful to say the least.
The Post newspaper should stop fighting personal political battles using their newspaper. If Mmembe wants to be president of this country he should just put his name forward either in the PF, under UPND or best he forms his party.
Why is government looking the other side while the Post has continued to use the illegal recording of Chikwanda’s private conversation? Even if the recording (according to the Post) contains what they are calling damaging evidence against ABC the fact is it was illegally obtained it was intrusion on someone’s private life and its reproduction and usage as a tool should be stopped henceforth. We Zambians are actually docile to allow an individual like Mmembe to perpetuate using the recording that has been widely condemned to attack one of us fellow Zambian. Can the Police please arrest Mmembe there is too much stupidity coming from him.
The stupid excuse that I keep hearing about the Zambian criminal justice system is that if there is no one to come forward to launch a complaint then the Zambia cops could just sit on their a$ses without effecting an arrest or commencing investigations. Put it another way: even a criminal murdered an innocent person in broad day light they won’t do shyt unless someone repoothe crime. Yeah how stupid is that? Other cops in other countries commence investigations simply based on rumour or public opinion.
Thus if ABC doesn’t report the issue the ‘mambara’ cops won’t do shyt.
All the comments are balanced and to the point!…but @Boyboy, oh gosh you are off the mark!
Do we really have media we can call balanced? Talk about the post, Tumfweko, postive issues on Scott, Kabimba they will co wise. Watchdog, postive issues about HH, then u are wise. Daily National-talk negatively about Meembe then u are wise. ZNBC, Zambia Daily Mail, Times of Zambia-talk postively about ruling Government then u are wise. All the above media houses have a position and a side. You cant be advisory to the happenings in Zambia.
Ba boyboy you write like you have no 5 senses! you sound like a kaponya man. Such words don’t befit this media, shame on you ????!
Great analysis man. Reminds me of the late Joy Mwiinga (MHSRP). Son?
Fred Mmembe thrivesd on the colonial belief that a whitr man must be worshipped like some “God”.
If Mmembe had read “The African Life” and “The Cebntral African Examiner”, papers that truly served the interests of the genuine Freedom Fighter, Mmembe should have picked on a very important message from a veteran politician namely Munukayumbwa Sipalo who stated that ‘ THE ONLY GOOD WHITE MAN IS A DEAD ONE”.
Chikwanda was a Freedom Fighter. But Guy Scott carries genes of his colonial parents. Very few British people will ever forgive genuine Freedom Fighters in Zambia, Angola, South Africa, Mozambique, Namibia and Zimbabwe. Guy Scott’s sarcastic language against the ANC in South Africa has been understood as being typical of the British towards Africans.
Not
Mphangwe…. interesting I always hear that saying from my Nigah friends that ” That a good cop is a dead cop…
I understand that if a person records himself having a conversation with somebody else, it is not illegal. You don’t need a warrant to record yourself.
Chikwanda admitted that Mahtani has been breaking the Banking Act since PF came to power. That must be enough ground for Chikwanda to resign – in a normal society not dominated by educated fools.
