Nanga Farms PLC has yesterday presented a dividend cheque of about K3 million to the Ministry of Finance.

In receiving the donation on behalf of government in Lusaka yesterday, Secretary to the Treasury Fredson Yamba commended the company for posting dividends of K3, 008,872.10 and sustaining good performance.

Mr. Yamba said government appreciates partnering with the private sector to drive economic growth through competent management of commercial operations.

He has since urged Nanga Farms board to continue being sensitive to the plight of workers as they work hard to increase value for money.

Mr. Yamba said the company should also consider the community and small holder sugarcane growers in the Magobo community.

He said this was an important channel of generating employment indirectly and uplifting the standards of living of the rural communities in Mazabuka and Chikakanta districts, where they operate from.

Mr. Yamba said government was aware that the majority shareholder, Zambia Sugar PLC, was an important partner in the neighbouring Manyonyo irrigation scheme.

He said the irrigation scheme was helping to make the dream of sugarcane production for the small holder farmers become a reality.

And Nanga Farms Acting Chairperson Rebecca Katowa said in recent years Nanga Farms has benefitted from Zambia Sugar’s commitment to sustainable development.

Ms. Katowa said Nanga Farms’ strong performance has continued to benefit other stakeholders in the community.

Government holds 14.27 percent shares in Nanga Farms. The company is the only agricultural entity that has consistently been declaring dividends.

  1. At least a farm can make profits and publicises it. The mines hide their profits under pants to avoid paying tax; stupid *****s

  2. LT please report correctly, this is not a donation, but an entitlement to Government, through the shares they own in this Company. Good advice from Dr Yamba. Nanga Farms needs to show more cooperate responsibility towards the community-especially around the issue of usage of roads. Too much colonial mentality.

  3. I was in Chisamba and almost cried at the state of living conditions for some Zambeef employees at their Huntley farm, I am angry at my govt despite being a hardcore PF supporter at how they continue to turn a blind eye to these big commercial farms that makes millions of dollars in profits but continue to subjugate their workers to colonial style working and living conditions. Zambeef are not the only ones, a trend has been allowed in the commercial farming sector whereby it seems acceptable for workers to be paid lowly and to be treated close to slaves other firms such as Zambia sugar, Dar farms, Sable farms, Amatheon are equally guilty of gross workers rights and continually violate safety conditions. I beg my govt to nationalise these farms the results will be there as seen above.

    • Concur and well done for informing us. We all need to be interested in the way our citizens are treated.

This applies to the state of our prison too.

We should keep these campaigns live online, so the gov’t can do something.

  4. This is good. The gov’t is reaping where it sowed!

Earlier this week Mr Chikwanda received more divis’ from Zanaco.

This is ‘Mud in your eyes time,’ to Opposition!!

Well done. It is beginning to pay.

Now………..for those mines. A firmer hand please. They must produce documents as required by ZRA to get their VAT. Leave that rule in place. We want to have firmer Control Measures in the management and Revenue from Mines. This is where Chikwanda is failing. He needs to work to find a better way for Zambia to raise a greater share in our Mines.

  5.
