Patriotic Front (PF) Secretary General Edgar Lungu has warned party presidential hopefuls against ‘causing confusion by engaging in acts of corruption and bribery.
In a statement released in Lusaka Mr Lungu said it was regrettable that the party had received reports that certain candidates intending to stand as President of the party were engaging in acts of bribery and corruption.
Mr Lungu has since urged all PF members to refrain from actions that would dishonor the legacy of President Sata and reject activities that would tarnish the image and standing of the party and the nation at large.
He warned that the leadership of the PF would not take kindly to contenders that were engaged in acts that were alien to the principles of the party.
Below is the full statement
MEDIA PRESS RELEASE
DATE; 9TH NOVEMEBER 2014
SUBJECT: NEED TO UPHOLD PEACE AND UNITY AS WE BEGIN TO CONCLUDE THE FUNERAL OF PRESIDENT MICHAEL SATA
The Patriotic Front wishes to express its gratitude to the thousands of Zambians that have turned up at Mulungushi International Conference Centre to view the body of the beloved President, His Excellency Mr. Michael Sata.
The party also wishes to recognise the public show of sympathy and mourning that also been seen across the country.
This is a demonstration that President Michael Sata led with a commitment to serve the people and also his life was devoted to uplifting the standards of living of our people.
It is therefore imperative that the spirit to mourn our leader in peace and dignity must continue until we conclude the mourning period on Tuesday 11th November 2014.
The PF will always carry the vision and memories of President Sata and will ensure that his legacy is preserved.
It is however regrettable that we have received reports that certain candidates intending to stand as President of the party are causing confusion with reported acts of corruption and bribery.
It is important to warn that the leadership of the Patriotic Front will not take kindly to contenders that are engaged in acts that are alien to the principles of the party.
We wish to inform our members that the Central Committee will meet to discuss matters relating to the selection or election of the party president and presidential candidate that will represent the partyin the upcoming by-election.
The Central Committee is empowered to set its own rules, or vary any clause in the constitution as provided for in Article 58 (l) and (m).
Historically the PF has participated in four (4) General Elections, of these, only one election was preceded by a General Conference.
It is therefore important to allow the Central Committee to consider these matters independently recognizing the concerns regarding time, resources, security, peace and unity of the party and nation.
By the time the Central Committee will hold its first meeting on Thursday, 13TH November 2014, we will remain with about 72 days or less remaining before the General Election is held. And it should be noted that an election can be held even much earlier.
I therefore wish to urge all our members to refrain from actions that will dishonor the legacy of President Sata and reject activities that will tarnish the image and standing of the Party and the nation at large.
EDGAR LUNGU
SECRETARY GENERAL
PATRIOTIC FRONT
Be Careful PF you don’t select “good for nothing” candidate. He should be one perceived to be widely acceptable by those majority who vote. Precisely, he should have developmental mind, with no history of corruption bekatwibila nakabili bapompwe without love of God in their hearts!
They are not only causing confusion – by acts of bribery and corruption – but they are ALSO printing campaign T-SHIRTS. 😀
@fact man – am waiting for you to comment on the happenings in PF. You were insulting HH calling him a “HYPOCLITE” amongst other names
Muli mu chibe Ba Edgar Lungu. The people you are competing against like GBM, Mulenga Sata, etc have got money. As for you, forget about the PF presidency.
By the way LT, this new look website is not as good as the previous one. Please bring back the previous one.
why are talking about presidential hopefuls,,, before isambo lya mfwa,,, and sharing property.
So it is clear- no convention. Guy Scott for president; Edgar Lungu for Vice President. These are the two marketable guys out of the pack of rotten eggs.
No matter what we say that Edgar Lungu is a CHUMBU MUNSHOLOLWA. We told him to suspend all his work, and MOURN. Why is he fighting GBM, Mulenga, Kabimba and others? Even Lungu can just wait to release that useless statement on Wednesday. He is panicking.
Why even shout in the media, why not just text to them and tell them just to wait?
All confusion is because of Edgar now, if I was acting president I would fire him or completely shut-down the PF secretariat until wednesday next week.
WaZabanga is right the new website doesn’t look friendly. It’s not plug and play
I hate this new website.
Bo Lungu, this is the more reason PF should leave the driving seat, it is full of corrupt and deceitful people. As per the slogan of Dochi Kubeba.
I wonder which candidate shall not distribute funds. The line between bribery and providing resources for campaigns is very slim. The candidates will dish out money, while the delegates will enjoy it since each one of them can only vote for one person at the end of it all.
PF the Panga Family is at the dead end of a tunnel. no way out. this is the time we gonna see how pangas will be used against each other. there is a lot happening during this time of chililo. ZP, DEC, ACC, please pull your socks and save Zambia diligently or else more are bound to die in the MCS burial aftermath. this is a warning
Iam told now GBM and Winter are the front runners .I told you Lungu will just be used and thrown out by the clique or the cartel.so Zambians let forgrt of confused PF and vote for HH for peace and Economic independence.Twachula sana pafula na PF 90 days lies an ti donch kubeba. As youths we nned jobs not this tribal thing when we come from inter marieges E.G Mutale Muntita or Chipo swilimba.
Very true. You right brother/sister.
“It is however regrettable that we have received reports that certain candidates intending to stand as President of the party are causing confusion with reported acts of corruption and bribery”
Why no names? Only “certain candidates”? Real leadership quality?
Lungu, “certain candidates intending to stand as President of the party are causing confusion with reported acts of corruption and bribery. ”
“Patriotic Front will not take kindly to contenders that are engaged in acts that are alien to the principles of the party.”
So honest and truthful candidates are NOT ALLOWED???!!
Only the ones that can tell LIES, cause CONFUSION, BRIBE, and are CORRUPT and there “to eat” are following the party “principles” and can stand???
Go look in Parliament then, and tell all the MPs that were BRIBED with Deputy Minister positions they can stand!
GBM For president maza fakas
chitunkamafi.. techakwesha bane!!
That’s why GBM won’t be president. His campaigners are jerabos and ka pony as from Kasama.
Thanks A Lungu, but question is which image of the party are you trying to protect. With due respect, what image does PF have to protect? Yourself bwana Lungu you were openly dishing out money in Chipata, in Mongu. And now you are telling us there is some legacy to protect
I doubt if one can cause confusion in an already confused party
Looks like the PF presidential campaigns will be dirty and treacherous, already the penniless Edgar Lungu looks unsettled and confused. There will be many casualties along the way.
The presidency is for HH to grab if he wants it, I don’t see how Lungu, GBM or Kabimba can sell themselves to the electorate. Lungu has a history of dishonesty and his professional integrity is currently shelved or on the back burner, GBM is a violent short tempered wife batterer who must never be given instruments of state power, Kabimba is potentially a cruel and vicious dictator who shouldn’t be given a chance near state house.
True, with a case of wife battery, there is no way you can stand for public office in America. But in Zambia, where integrity is not a required virtue for presidency, anything can happen.
Very true @Wantanshi
PF as a party should be retrenched fully and completely. It’s an eye sore.
Which part of “do not issue any statements until after the burial” is Mr Lungu failing to understand? Has he some kind of Tourette’s syndrome?
Exactly, thats why he was fired. He is a low grade politician, and you think Sata didnt know what he was doing when he gave him too many responsibilities. He was putting him on a leash. Now he wants to run away from the party connnstitution. He thought he had all the support from his fellow members. You cant have president who is so gullible with blinkers on his eyes during day time.
my hope is that the government will make use of the intelligence to come up with a sellable pf presidential candidate.this issue of the most corrupt nec representing pf wil mean losing it t upnd. we are tired of policy shifts. upnd can wait 4 2016 and by that time hh will av gotten some patrotic character.yaah! we really are in a crisis ! even pf av no one nationalistic. winter was to do it but power puffed him very much that he thot only him and meembe are intelligent the entire zambia. as 4 the new president ,welcome. the great man has left most works in gear and it will be up t u t finish n embark on your own later.as far as zambians are concerned no one project has sata embarked on which has been termed ‘useless’.
@Phiri Banda R…… calm down and stop panicking over what will happen. Politics is a dirty game but I doubt UPND will be poaching from PF as the late Sata called his ministers & mps useless. And you yourself are worried that the MOST corrupt (remember these are your words) NEC will be representing PF for the Zed presidential elections. Chill man. Life has to continue – you won’t be the only one to lose your source of income. Think in terms of the betterment of the country. One of the projects Zambian deem useless is the appointing family forest in the diplomatic mission.
It’s HH all the way
We warned those that were wishing for this state of affairs to be careful what they wished for. Usually it is that when your wish is granted you have no control over the offshoots…
Thats the route Edgar needs to be taking if he wants to have a go at presidency. He has zero chance at a national conference so he should avoid that at all costs.
@Kay,you are absolutely correct,if money comes into play,EL even the best of what is left in pf,will be knocked out. This statement sounds to be suggestive of that non convention route.
What time does Edgar Lungu actually work as Defence or Justice Minister?
@Harold Muno,
You have posed a very important question which highlights the haphazard sort of administration Sata specialised in.
They are just an honorary Titles.
He has absolutely no clue what is going on in the Ministry of Justice or Defense.
No surprise then that foodstuffs produced in Zambia are being bought on single sourced contracts by the Army from outside the country. At DOUBLE the price!
Lets have another beer!
At present he holds three key post. All of them need attention particularly at this point in time.
Scott was right to unburden EL of at least one delicate and demanding post. Unfortunately not many saw the importance of this move, starting with EL himself.
Bakosefye ba former Acting President (FAP)
@ pretty thanks 4 yo observations. i wonder if this diplomatic mission issue is a tangible project.b it winter, nevers, hh,meembe,vj. diplomatic mission is soft area of appointing relations and friends’ sisters with bare qualifications. we call it paying courtesy.
It may not be a project but is has been an issue of concern. It is estimated 70% of those in foreign service are relatives. I don’t know which other govt can beat PF to that… The current projects also are a continuation of MMD government so what other projects has PF started on their initiative…am told the slabs for clinics in rural zambia are either incomplete or the project never took off. Let’s talk about the 90 day promises…. one of your ministers had the audacity to say to us Zambian how could we honestly believe the 90 day promises. The day of reckoning is approaching….Governing the country by the 10 commandments?……. God is not mocked.
EL – Expired and Languishing!
Ba PF don’t even waste your time talking about corruption, you guys are known for highly corrupted and dirty party, anyway contunie killing yourselves, me and my group will vote for nevers and MMD, am supporting the hour for new hope, viva nevers
Ken well spoken, I will vote for nevers and MMD his the only best option for Zambia, nevers you have my vote.
It is time for all good citizens to sell their votes to the highest bidder!
Let’s face it, the Presidential hopefuls WILL be throwing their cash at you…..it’s the Zambian Election way!
May the poor be savvy, and get as much as they can from offers, HOWEVER as Patriots, ……certainly report it in confidence!
Oh I hear voices of morality clippity tapping on their keyboards……please spare us!
The presidency is for nevers and MMD to grab if he wants it, I don’t see how HH, Lungu, GBM or Kabimba can sell themselves to the electorate, HH is tribalist and regionally, Lungu has a history of dishonesty and his professional integrity is currently shelved or on the back burner, GBM is a violent short tempered wife batterer who must never be given instruments of state power, Kabimba is potentially a cruel and vicious dictator who shouldn’t be given a chance near state house.
Don’t kubeba, just get the money.
No one has ever said there gona tackle corruption , nepotism and money laudering in the PF> i wonder why? anywayz pf has no one capable of leading this country. look at all there potential candidates, they have a history of one of the 3 i just mentioned…….and note the point “history” not potential of doing it….but history. (which by the way repeats its self)
Even if Fat Albert was 2 stand alone,I can not vote 4 him.
The choices inside PF are like chosing between the frying pan and fire or a choice between Lucifer and Hitler.
Imbwas na majangili hawa wote.
Problem with PF is that they have never held a truly free and fair election convention since inception. The one convention out of 4 elections held was a sham as only Michael – MHSRIP only read out a list of Central Committee members, without elections. So the culture of intra party elections is so alien to PF. Hence l see l major problems in PF than even UNIP experienced. Especially without their mentor and founder.
PF you are not going nowhere, No matter what you say that Edgar Lungu is a CHUMBU MUNSHOLOLWA, DR Mumba is our next president weather you like it or not.
Burial of PF on 11th November. The museum will now have UNIP and PF. MMD watch out you could be next in the museum
HH is the only Man for this time !!!
Thank God for ths confusion in PF. We r just waiting for Wednsday 12/11/14, then POLITICS will begin and UPND all the way !!
Who can vote for HH in kitwe, lsk Northern, luapula,Muchinga&eastern, that’s a question you should ask yourself everyday.
You have said it all Edgar. Let he/she who has ears listen.
Even at its weakest non of the opposition cn beat PF,look at HH,he is a regionalist/tribalist,Mumba is too weak and abandoned Gods work, chipimo still a novice,Nawakwi and the test are jus comedians
LUNGU THIS IS WHEN YOU ARE SEEING CONFUSION IN PF? YOU CHIEF LIAR SATA NEVER CONDEMNED VIOLENCE AND YOU EMBRACED AS PART OF YOUR RULES NOW THAT YOU HAVE SEEN THE DEVIL YOU HAVE BEEN PROTECTING.
LUNGU THE WORST IS YET TO COME JUST WAIT AFTER TOMORROW.I CAN FORESEE YOU RESIGNING.
ZAMBIANS IS THIS TYPE OF GOVERNMENT TO CONTINUE WITH WHICH CAN NOT EVEN MOURN THEIR LEADER BUT BUSY PUSHING THE AGENDA FOR PRESIDENCY.NEVER IN THE HISTORY OF ZAMBIA
rubbish coming from a drunkard like mushota. mushota = edgar lungu = drunkard and whole!!
Kabimba used to warn you that there was corruption in the PF. All of you including Edgar turned against Kabimba and asked him to name the officials who were corrupt. So you are only able to see corruption at the last hour just because you are interested to stand.
Anyway let us wait and see. Michael never bribed anyone to the Presidence. He sold himself so well no matter his short comings.
The Bemba clique under the ambrela of kola foundation is planning to usher in a bemba as acting president by using a named lawyer with the help of the chief justice Lombe chibesa Kunda who will appoint a high court judge to give a Bemba an opportunity to be President.Lungu will resign after being disowned by central committee.Lungu ,kabimba and scott may find themselves in basket.God jehova will pass the mantle to HH. God looks in the heart of people.HH has a lot of passion to develop Zambia and show everyone that he is the best and after him no Zambian will ever vote for a riffraff.
I don’t see PF emerging any stronger after the succession battle! Going for a convention favors Wynter Kabimba who started organizing party structures much much earlier than others. Stopping the convention because of perceived bribery and allowing the Central Committee to choose the PF candidate is likely to, apart from annoying corrupt elements, lead to courtroom battles which can only reduce campaigning time for the eventual winner. The PF constitution allows Central committee to veto certain proposed names such as Wynter and Scott before allowing the 6000 delegates to vote.
The best corruption mechanisms and secret armories will either carry the day and usher in a presidential candidate with a tainted image or withdraw financial support from a less corrupt poor candidate.
A sample analysis is so far suggesting the unheralded and poor Edgar Lungu is favourite to subdue the little, if any, popularity United Party for National Development (UPND) Hakainde Hichilema may have gained along the way.
Not only Hichilema is feeling threatened by the Lungu-mania factor. The infamous cartel led by Post Newspaper editor Fred M’membe and is financed by Finance Bank owner Rajan Mahtani is dead scared their share is gone if Lungu is elected president.
Two media outlets – one tribal inclined and the other financial survival leaflet but both kept financially afloat by one source – have launched relentless attacks on Edgar Lungu. But the man has carried himself out with maximum composure and still appeals to many as President Michael Sata’s CHOSEN ONE.
The two…
The two reasons Edgar Lungu maybe feared so much by Hichilema is that he is popular even among ordinary citizens. This means from virtually nowhere Lungu will emerge and condemn Hichilema to a fourth presidential electoral defeat. This will mean Hichilema holds the record electoral defeat in the history of Zambia going into 2016.
As a result, Hichilema’s political career will or may just end with an uppercut of January 2015 from Edgar Lungu. Therefore, the opposition UPND will do anything even if it meant joining a marriage of convenience with the cartel to stop Lungu. But ultimately, it is the Zambian people that will be the final judge through the ballot.
On the other hand, Fred M’membe is dead scared. An Edgar Lungu presidency will mean Zambians getting back their money from the…
Edgar Lungu can take good care of a bottle of whisky but not a country. There is no civilized country in this 21st Century that can elect a drunkard as its president. Not even Zambia can sink that low.
let us be really pf compared to upnd who are worse tribalists all pipo in foreign mission belong to one family or tribe all appointments on tribal line the chief tribalist said i do not balance tribes but brain a big insults to the zambian people in case you have already forgoten. all pf mps and ministers described as useless by the owner and you say someone can be sold easily so many problems awaits solution before campaigns farmers. workers universty students though some have been paid to talk good about pf. government broke because of carelessness over borrowing without thinking. maybe pf cadres will be in the fore frant to vote for the continueation of poverty but upnd is the solution viva hh via upnd dr. c. banda please this is your chance let liars go people are with you
I lived in Zambia for so many years, I`ll tell you one thing, Zambians have no ability to elect a sensible President.
According to ZWD “Lungu is battling poor health. He has advanced kidney problems. Lungu is also said to have a very bad record of employment. At the tender age of 19, he was discharged from the army for drunkenness. He later joined Barclays bank where he was fired for allegedly stealing client’s money. The same was the case with ZCCM. Just before the elections that ushered the PF in power, Lungu’s practicing license was revoked for stealing client’s money”.
Exactly, looks like the kind of person/ caliber Zambians go for, as President.
