MMD President Nevers Mumba says he will not be derailed by reports that former President Rupiah Banda is scheming to contest the presidential by election on the MMD ticket.
Dr Mumba said he is not bothered by such reports saying he is focused on preparing the party for the by election.
He said in an interview that his preoccupation as MMD President is ensuring that the MMD scoops the election.
“Preparing for the by-election is my preoccupation, rumours of what anybody wants to do or who wants to contest is not my business. I’m President of the MMD and my responsibility is for the party,” Dr Mumba said.
The MMD leader added,” It’s all systems go. We are waiting for the Government to tell us the election date and our machinery will be turned on.”
Some online reports have alleged that Dr. Mumba has entered into a pact with some individuals to block former President Rupiah Banda from launching his purported come back.
This was after it emerged that a group of people who worked with Mr Banda in the 2011 presidential campaigns are convincing Mr Banda to return to politics.

Unfortunately, Nevers Mumba will be a hard sale in this by election. His CV is a mess. He abrogated the presidency of NCC, a party he himself founded. He tripped the vice-presidency at the national level. Thereafter he hijacked the presidency of MMD and ran that party aground.
Today MMD is only good to be archived in our national museum. With such a CV, another free ride to the national presidency will be a long shot for him. Who wants to see him at the helm of power and destroying things at the national level the way he has done before elsewhere? MMD is quite a story right now.
What has Nevers got to show for the good person you claim he is? Or is it just because he has a last name that resonates with yours?
I’m praying for the man too, I have keenly followed this man from the days of NCC up to MMD, and RB can not be compared with him. Nevers, is somehow consistent, of course in good ways.

Stop the Religious nonsense. What does Mumba bring to the table other than wanting to be president? I’m leaning on HH because he at least has credentials as a successful business man while Mumba’s main profession is the bible and that is not a qualification to govern but to preach. Even though I give my support to HH am not positive that any one man in Zambia can fix our problems without totally reforming government and laying a new foundation. But we have a country that needs governance and in next election give HH a chance he is as Zambian as any Chewa or Jenna.

From the time HH took over UPND from Anderson, UPND has gone from 40% to 18%, now tell me who is more organized than the other! nevers has reorganised MMD and all the corrupted chaps from MMD are gone e.g. Dora and group have been kicked out, UPND is now getting rejects from MMD, his former Vice President and knows the job.
Running of a country is not tantamount to running a business, one can be a successful businessman by extortion, rituals and/or any other dubious means.

HH and Nevers Mumba should sell what their parties will do for mother Zambia. They are the only two alternatives for now. I do not care who PF puts forward. The party is indiscipline and it is a vehicle for cartels and cliques. We do not want surrogate presidents who are held at ransom. No more puppets on the chain. We know that the next PF president will also be a puppet on the chain and puppeteers will be in charge of the affairs of the country.
When something is not appealing, no one can fight for it. But when something is appealing all would want to fight for it. We will not eat credentials people. Late President Sata had humble background but performed much to the surprise of his critics(MHSRIP).Presidents put in place a team of technocrats that push his vision into reality and don’t work alone. Not all attractive credentials have proven results worth. Many have been a failure.
