Southern province minister Daniel Munkombwe says traditional ceremonies are very important because they are a uniting factor people in the community.

Mr Munkombwe was speaking in Namwala at the weekend at the official opening of the Shikaumpa traditional ceremony of the Ila people of chief Mukobela’s chiefdom in Namwala.

He said the late Republican President Michael Sata attached great importance to matters of traditional heritage and culture which saw the birth of the Ministry of Chiefs and Traditional Affairs as a way to bring rural development to chiefdoms.

Mr Munkombwe said the late Mr Sata saw the fundamental need of bringing Chiefs to be part of the developmental process.

The Shikaumpa traditional ceremony show cases the wealth of Namwala through displays of cattle reared by the indigenous people of the area.

Mr Munkombwe said the Ministry of Chiefs and Traditional Affairs was working hard to bridge the gap between the government and traditional leadership thereby fostering developmental projects in various chiefdoms.

And Mr Munkombwe has urged the Zambian people not to worry about the current happenings in the ruling party the Patriotic Front because this would soon stop when a new leader is elected.

He said what was happening in the PF was an internal matter which would soon be solved and that such things happen when a leader of the party dies.

Meanwhile, Chief Mukobela has thanked the Patriotic Front (PF) government for bringing various developmental projects to the district.

He said that currently the Rural Electrification Authority (REA) was working towards the electrification of his chiefdom in Baambwe.

Mr Mukobela said that traditional ceremonies contribute in sharing information about development and therefore should be promoted as evidenced by the attendance of government officials.

  1. Politics of the belly. You are right such wrangles happen even in families whn a bread winner dies.

But WITH PF its a TOO MUCH CONFUSION.

  2. It’s not just an internal matter, they run our gov’t! We need them in order by the end of this week or else…..

  3. Alias..Someone needs to dispose of this relic…surely what productivity can this old man bring to table at 9:00 in the morning on Monday in the board room apart from tastless colonist Sata jokes.
