PF factions clash in Lusaka, New PF SG condemns the violence

There was chaos in the central business district of Lusaka this afternoon when machete wielding cadres supporting rival Patriotic Front presidents Edgar Lungu and Miles Sampa clashed sending members of the general public scampering for safety.

Business along Cairo, Lumumba, Chachacha Roads and Freedom Way came to stand still as shop owners closed their shops for fear of the rampaging cadres.

A check by a QFM News crew that rushed into town found most people watching in a seemingly state of shock as the machete wielding cadres took over the roads in the central business district.

The cadres smashed the windows of a taxi belonging to Metro Cab an initiative of Mr Sampa to empower youths in his constituency.

Quick action by alert Police officers prevented the Metro Cab Taxi from being set ablaze.
And Police Spokesperson Charity Munganga-Chanda says the situation has returned to normal and Police officers are still on the ground patrolling the area.

Ms. Chanda has however appealed to political parties to desist from involving themselves in activities that endanger the lives of the people in the country.

She says the Police is still urging all those wanting to hold public processions, demonstrations or meetings to abide by the provisions of the Public Order Act.

Meanwhile Davis Chama the PF Secretary General appointed by one of the two PF Presidents Edgar Lungu has condemned the violence by PF cadres.

Mr Chama says a group of youths coming from yesterday’s general conference which saw the election of Mr Sampa as PF president caused the confusion in town.

He says the PF abhors all forms of violence regardless of who the perpetrators are.
Mr Chama says the party regrets that along the way, property has been damaged, and has called on the Police to get to the bottom of the incident and bring the culprits to book as soon as possible.

He says PF President Edgar Lungu who is also the Minister of Defence and Justice is a man well known for nothing but peace.

Below is full Statement by new PF SG

PF SECRETARY GENERAL DAVIES CHAMA CONDEMNS CADRE VIOLENCE THAT ROCKED LUSAKA THIS AFTERNOON;

We have learnt with great disappointment that isolated incidents of violence have erupted in the capital Lusaka between people believed to be cadres from the ruling party.

We have been informed that a group of youths coming from yesterday’s illegal General Conference caused confusion in town and during this chaos, a Metro cab belonging to Mr. Miles Sampa was smashed.

First and foremost, we would like to condemn the violence because as you know, the PF abhors all violence in all forms regardless of who perpetrates it because we are a peace loving party.
That is the spirit our beloved late President Michael Sata founded this party on. Peace.

We deeply regret that along the way, property has been damaged and we hope the police can get to the bottom of this incidence and bring the culprits to book as soon as possible. Order must be restored.

PF President Hon. Edgar Lungu who is also the Minister of Defence and Minister of Justice is a man well known for nothing but peace.
It is for this reason that we condemn all acts of violence including this current reported one.

It is a well-documented fact that hon. Edgar Lungu gave up the presidency peacefully even when he was not legally required to do so, just like he gave up the position of PF Secretary General peacefully because he loves Zambia and he believes the peace the country has enjoyed must continue.

We know that there is a calculated malicious campaign by the Cartel to link hon. Lungu to violence and hugger in order to continue undermining the credible image of the party.

    • I wonder why most people are surprised with the kind of leadership the PF is exhibiting today consisting of these power struggles. In the first place, Zambians never voted with credibility on these MPs under Sata, but whoever stood on the PF ticket was voted for inorder to remove the MMD. So as long as it was Sata and PF, Zambians voted under frustrations.

      Open your eyes wide “Inshita tailolela cipuba” as said in a bemba proverb. Time is ticking while you are tussling with each other and others are strategizing. Winning an election is not an easy task and those who have been there will tell you well. Being in the ruling party doesn’t mean you will carry the day. People TODAY will be more careful than before because this has been a lesson

      Maybe ,maybe not as the case is in court where Mmembe ‘s cartel installed its judges.

      We shall see how it pans out after the judge passes his judgement. Obviously I expect appeals from either side until the case reaches the supreme court where the Mmembe cartel has also infiltrated.

      The end game as I see it will be two PF parties called PF-Lungu and PF – Sampa which will have to be registered hurriedly.

      In MMD , there is MMD- Mumba and MMD- Banda.

      Agony is supporting a party in confusion.

  35. The cause of this indiscipline is not Scott but Sata. Remember Scott was toothless when Sata was alive. Sata created leaders who do not want to take instructions from their superiors other Sata and wish they could go and get such from him at Embassy Park.

Let the wish of people prevail, because whatever evil will happen on this land, no one else apart from your office will be blamed! Can you please ensure that peace returns in your party, PF.
