More than K117, 000 money belonging to the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has allegedly been stolen in Chipata district in Eastern Province.
Eastern Province Assistant Commissioner of police Patrick Bili disclosed that the money was allegedly stolen yesterday at the great east mall around 11:30 hours.
Speaking in an interview in Chipata today, Mr. Bili who is also Chipata District Officer in-charge explained that the money meant to pay people undergoing an ECZ workshop was stolen from unregistered BMW at a shopping mall.
He stated that K117, 290.00 was withdrawn by three cashiers namely Bernard Miti, Thoka Chikango and Sylvia Bwalya all from the Chipata Municipal council.
Mr Bili added that it alleged that after withdrawing the said money, the three officials decided to go in to spur supermarket and left the car unguarded.
Mr. Bili said upon returning to the vehicle the three officers discovered that the front left window was smashed and the money was not there.
He explained that it was at this point that the matter was reported to the police and two officers Bernard Miti, and Thoka Chikango have since been arrested while Sylvia Bwalya is admitted to Chipata General Hospital as she collapsed after discovering that the money was stolen.
Planned move. How do you withdraw such huge amounts of money with security. Lock them up.
Wille Nsanda
Thanks

Gush?? what a stupi.d lie. How can they start doing other things after withdrawing the money?? with that huge sum, why didn’t the get security escort?
They planned this move because at least, one person would have stayed inside the cash??
Lock them up they are thieves.
The EL cartel at work. They mean serious business.
Planned by nsanda and Edgar Lungu, nigaa, why didn’t you go with the money in spar or why didn’t u leave the driver in the car. Cammon these Bembas should have just lied that they were high jacked by armed robers on the way. Not even me would withdraw k2million and lock it in the car and go shopping. Lungu at work
more money in there pockets. at least they managed to pay themselves since government does not pay well.
I reckon the carelessness of the three is criminal… If they are innocent then they must feel like absolute pillocks right about now… on the other hand my brother Ringo wasn’t too smart either and he was cruising around in Chipata yesterday looking for a smash and grab. If he did it he will be found somewhere. Look for the trail of sausages…
Why were the cashiers withdrawing money when there is no election yet and preparations have only just began?????
This is bigger than it looks
True?? The money has go to Edgar Lungu’s campaign?? why withdraw cash now?
This is totally negligence. The trio knew had money which was supposed to be paid to the people being trained; honestly how can they leave the money unattended to, and why not go straight to the council offices. Where were the council security to escort these cashiers? Only time will tell.
Can tell by their names ; Shameless thieves.Lock them up!
I don’t think you know what you are talking about. That is what happens when you are paranoid. You start seeing things which aren’t there – I would not be surprised if you thought Miti was Bemba!
I declare the lady, Sylvia Bwalya, who is admitted to Chipata General Hospital as innocent.
Look no further than Willy Nilly Nsanda the grandmaster who is propelling Edgar Eagle Lager
If you would like to know whether Edgar is presidential material, ask yourself this question: if PF loses in Jan 2015, is EL going to manage to keep PF moving forward? Your answer answers the question on whether EL is presidential material.
More money in PF’s pockets.
We just need a paradigm shift in financial management in Zambia. Pa Zed bukabolala! You are thieves.
Move away from dealing in cash and let the transactions be made at the ministry of finance and money be deposited directly into their bank accounts.
That is why the UPND govt. will change the way financial trtansactions are done

Inside job. Get in a super market and find the money missing. Teach the 3 a lesson. Let them rot in jail and no bail.
Oh God. Poverty!!!!!
I smell a nsomba here.
Come on! Pull the other one! There is no way they are innocent.
Unreal. No one leaves money like that in a car. At the leastest, they are guilty of carelessness!
The question people are not asking is how K217, 000 goes missing in the same town where farmers were protesting the lack of payment? How come there was money to be stolen when the farmers are unpaid?
I like the way that chick Sylvia Bwalya faked fainting and was whisked away to the hospital. I’m sure she had one eye open as she was being transported to the hospital. And listening carefully if anyone is on to her scam.. This trio should not be in the robbery business. They are not very good at it.
