United Church of Zambia (UCZ) synod Bishop Mutale Mulumbwa has called on all political parties and the public in general to vote in peace.

Bishop Mulumbwa said politicians and citizens not take the peace which the country is enjoying for granted and avoid any actions that could endanger the nation’s peace, security and stability.

The bishop who during the United Church of Zambia’s 50th anniversary at National Heroes Stadium, which was attended by Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) president Edith Nawakwi and some PF officials, Bishop Mulumbwa said the elections should be held in an atmosphere free of fear, violence or intimidation.

“I particularly wish to make an earnest appeal to Christians from all denominations to ensure that we lead by example and conduct ourselves in a peaceful manner before, during and after the election,” he said.

Bishop Mulumbwa reminded the congregation that the election would provide an opportunity to vote for a candidate of their own choice.

And Acting President Guy Scott appealed to the church to pray for tomorrow’s presidential by-elections in order for the process to be peaceful.

“I would like to appeal to the church to pray for this country in view of the elections that will be held on 20th January 2015 which is in two days’ time to be peaceful,” he said.

Dr Scott who was accompanied by Patriotic Front secretary general Davies Chama and Kabwata member of parliament Given Lubinda, said he did not want to preempt what he would be talking on TV today on management of peaceful elections.

“I will be talking to the nation tomorrow night appealing to the citizens to exercise peaceful elections,” he said.

Dr Scott applauded UCZ for its role in society since its inception, adding that it had brought significant development in Zambia.

He said UCZ had significantly contributed to the development of the education system countrywide.

“Some of the clergymen in UCZ here have benefited from the church’s education system by acquiring PHDs and some of them are now professors,” he said.

Dr Scott said Government was happy because UCZ had continued performing beyond its expectations.
He urged the church to take full responsibility by making sure that children in society grew with full morality.

“You have held a number of conferences with interesting topics regarding the development of the nation such as gender based violence, child defilement, early marriages, poverty and the impact of globalization,” he said.

Dr Scott said most UCZ’s programmes complimented Governments policies and advised the church to dialogue with Government in serving the people.

    • We all know that PF is a violent party and they are the ones who have been castigating the violence.
Under PF, everything has pathetically failed and tomorrow, together, PF must be taught their Donchi Kubeba sickness by democratically voting these sickles out! All we ever have, has been PF violence day & night out for the past 3 years, which was fulfilled with hypocrisy.
Hypocrisy, lies and violence of PF has failed the country, now their skeletons are watt ling. They are tumbling down to their own 90 days pathological lies.
1 day left to kick off PF and the visionless Lungu.
      Viva Hakainde Hichilema for president.
Viva HH & UPND, abash PF!
      The Skeleton Key

  1. The question is are they going to freely hand over power, looking at how Lungu is so desperate for power, maybe RB will console him and convince him to hand over.

    • They are sobbing buddies now, remember RB nafuti nafuti has the experience of crying after miserably losing elections. Atleast the visionless Lungu will have a lamenting mate in RB.
Surely the visionless one has no choice but to accept the democratic defeat. PF cadres will disappear and I wonder for those who have not yet packed their bags.
      Viva HH!

  2. Best wishes to ZAmbia for a violence free and peaceful election process.

What you shud think about before you vote.

Remember the child who has no food
Poor who can’t pay school fees
Remember the unpaid farmers and the late paid farmers
    Remember the widows
    Violence free Zambia
    Low prices of essential commodities
    Freedom of speech and expression
Rule of law to eliminate pangas
    Respect
    Real money in your pocket
    Progress as a country
    People centered development
    People driven constitution
    Unity
    Vote ?#?ZambiaUnited?

    • The curtain is about to draw to a close.

Protagonists have made their messages known.

The future of Zambia is at stake. Will the majority vote for change or will they wish to continue in the guagmire of:

      unfulfilled promises
      unabated brazen violence
corruption induced poverty through infrastructure projects
mortgaging our children’s future with intractable debt burden (HIPC)
      tribal appointment and nepotism

I urge each one of the voters of which I am one to search their soul and vote for a party that will redeem us from the PF excess. There is a myraid of choice: Chipimo, Nawakwi, HH, Sondashi.

  3. Sanity is coming to Zambia, ordinary Zambian are so much in fear like they live in a foreign country, is this what you call good governance? You have to be PF to be protected, Kopoko is still free, someone steals a chicken you are in for one year. This is what we got for trusting Sata, MHSRIP. We can do better, any party besides MMD and PF is okay. To be much safer vote HH. Pangas and knives enough, brains okay, this is what other brilliant candidates bring, Nawakwi and HH, but we need a man to correct this mess and in future a woman is fine. It will be hard for Nawakwi to clean the pangas and knives on the market. Sad what PF has put us through.

  4. I urge the group which will emerge victorious to celebrate with ‘humility’.

We are one nation and we must be magnanimous in victory and defeat.

It would be a mistake for anyone to think that PF and UPND do not command swathes of support as seen from the rallies.

The number one agenda from today is the preservation of peace and unity.

It was be a mistake of major proportion to mock the losers since you will have to live with them and an ‘enemy’ within your ranks is cancerous. So make ‘peace’ with your political opponents to move the country forward.
