Share

Zambia’s 2015 continental hopes ended on Sunday with Zesco United’s elimination from the 2015 CAF Champions League.

Zesco lost 5-4 on post-match penalties to AS Kaloum of Guinea this evening in Mali.

This is after the two sides finished 1-1 at full time at Kaloum’s adopted home ground in Bamako to finish 2-2 on aggregate.

Justin Zulu put Zesco ahead in the 41st minute to give them a 1-0 lead into the break.

However, Kabungo Kassingo equalised from the penalty spot in the in the 75th minute to hand Kaloum their lifeline.

In the post-match penalties, Zesco successfully converted their spot-kicks through John Chingandu, Misheck Chaila, Zulu and Ayo Oluwafemi.

Jackson Mwanza missed Zesco’s fifth penalty to hand Kaloum passage to the pre-group stage.

Zesco join Power Dynamos out of Africa after the latter were eliminated from the Confederation Cup by CF Mounana of Gabon on Saturday via a 4-3 aggregate win after the Kitwe side won 3-0 in the final leg at Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe.

  1. …title…title ba LT….just say ‘ZESCO booted out of CAF Champions League’….just as much as Mwanza missed a penalty, it is unfair to heap the elimination on him….why did the team not win within the 90 minutes…??…why did the keeper not save atleast two spot kicks….
…since winning the Africa Cup in 2012, soccer standards have fallen drastically pa Zed at all levels….if it was a company performing like soccer is pa Zed, the CEO or the chairman of that institution is supposed to be shown the door….

    • Poor young man Jackson Mwanza, umwaice walwisha, as if he is one who killed Sata sure? Blame PF government, not Jackson Mwanza. Zambians are so depressed because of the wasteful boring PF government. The PF even fired or chased ZESCO managing director Chitundu.

  2. Sad sad sad indeed, my team. But what is amazing me is how Justin Zulu is scoring.
I thought Zesco will give us something to laugh about…. awe sure Zambia need shutdown. Too many sorrow.
    – No national team coach
    – Chris Katongo, Mweene, etc all as if they never was
    – Kalusha also just got rejected as if he is a sinner.
    – Zambia lost elections
    – No president for nearly a year now, ever since Sata was sick

All LT bloggers have left, on the strong like me still trying to give hope to Zambians. We had:
    – Mushota
    – Saulosi
    – MMD bootlicker
    – Nine Chale
    – Jay Jay
    – NDOBO tried to hangon…. awe sure, just like ZESCO, he gave up.

Why did Sata die so fast, like Jesus. Both only served the people for just 3 years. Lamentations lamentations hoooo hooo Zambia.
    Sadness!!!!

  3. Ba Jackie sure! All the defenders score their spot kicks while you as top scorer for last season and highly promising top man miss yours?! In my opinion you are still very raw and therefore highly overrated. Zambians are these the players you want to crucify Mayuka and Jacob over?? Malabishi

    • @ Vulture
…..Ronaldo, Messi, Rooney, Neymar Jr name them including your very Kalusha Bwalya have missed very crucial penalties….what are you ‘telling’……

  4. Yes anybody can miss a penalty even John Terry does. Leave the young lad alone imwe ba LT. Young man Jackson, it’s painful but don’t despair, we are with you.
That is the tragedy of failing to win a match within regulation time, penalties are anybody’s guess, whether you are Real or Barca or City or Chelsea ……yes even Arsenal or Liverpool or Kalampa….. kekekekeke….

  5. not an intelligent headline. Just say ZESCO Out of champions league. why make it sound like Jackson mwanza scored a hattrick of own goals to send ZESCO packing.
