PRESIDENT EDGAR LUNGU has officially commissioned the newly constructed Mpika district hospital and subsequently named it after the late former Republican President Michael Chilufya Sata.

The phase one project of the Micheal Chilfya Sata hospital constructed at a cost of K10 million, consists of an out patient department, administration block, casualty, radiology, laboratory and dental services.

Phase two of the project to gobble K19.7 million is underway, to be completed in February, 2016 and would comprise of a theatre, maternity ward, mortuary, kitchen, laundry and four medium cost house.

President Lungu told the residents who came to witness the commissioning of the hospital that the major concern of the late President Sata was improvement of health care in rural area.

“As his predecessor I will not relent to ensure that we improve health service delivery especially in rural area, and the rest of the country,” Mr Lungu said.

He said the opening of the hospital was aimed at providing cost effective quality care close to the people possible in a clean, caring and competence environment.

Besides the newly constructed district hospital, Government has earmarked to construct 61 health post in Mpika district, out of the 650 to be built country wide, to easy access to health centres for the people in the area .

He said the commissioning of hospital was not to favour Mpika as the birth place for the late President Sata but one reason was that the district is the largest in Zambia, larger than copperbelt. .

The district has also been provided with 13 ambulances from the 202 which were procured by Government at the cost of K76 million to provide primary, secondary and tertiary hospitals.

He warned the staff at the hospital to ensure that community received maximum benefit from it and treat them with much respect as it belong to them.

‘As health personnel you should be aware that offering health services to patients is a calling and you should do it diligently by treating the sick in a good manner,’President Lungu said.

He appealed to the community to guard the infrastructure and equipment and use it prudently for the people of Mpika to fully benefit from it.

He commended traditional leadership and people of Mpika for their continued support to Government’s developmental projects.

Muchinga Province Minister Mwiimba thanked the President for officially commissioning the district hospital which he said would greatly improve service delivery for the people in Muchinga district.

Chief Kabinga of the Bisa people in Mpika district commended Government for opening the long awaited district hospital for the people.

He also appealed to Government to extend the Link Zambia 8000 road project to Mpika district as good road network was a prerequisite for development.

“Our feeder roads also need to be worked on expeditiously,” he said.

    • In developed countries, there is a minimum of 5 years after someone has died or left public before any structure that was built using public money is named after an individual. This is to allow historians to do due diligence and ascertain the individual deserves such an accolade. There are also laws governing the naming of public institutions. Back home, it is chipantepante

    • Kalifya HH!

Stay positive and supportive Zambians. Don’t give negativity and darkness a chance. Refuse it!

    • @ Obatala

We certainly cannot afford to copy everything developed countries are doing, lest we just get their constitutions and use them in Zambia. There is nothing wrong to do things different especially if it does not harm people.

    • ALWAYS POOR JOURNALISM. WE ALWAYS SEE EL ON THIS ARTICLE I AM PRETTY SURE EVERY READER EXPECTED THE HOSPITAL IMAGE.

    • It’s like Zambia has a serious lack for historical names that I find it difficult to see logic in the repetitive naming of installations. Chembe Bridge and the Ndola Football Stadium are both Mwanawasa, Oh! Sorry, the Chainama Hospital included! Then comes Sata for Chiyaba (Chiawa to some) Bridge and now the Mpika Hospital! This is just politicians hero worshipping their party leaders yet were the locals to be involved in finding befitting names it would be a lifetime appreciation. Anyways the Sata name may be appropriate for Mpika and I’d love to have something named after FJT too say in Luapula after all despite his failings he was bold enough to lead in ushering a return to multi party politics and democracy. Oh yeah! May the planned stadium for southern province be named Yotam…

  1. SENIOR UPND MEMBERS TO REPRIMAND HH OVER HIS CARELESS AFFAIR WITH MUSICIAN SABOI IMBOELA

Regular night visits and frequent trips to musician Saboi Imboela’s home by the UPND leader has earned Hakainde Hichilema a strong reprimand from his close associates.

Saboi Imboela, musician and now University Lecturer is in charge of the media for the UPND together with former Evelyn Hone Lecturer Clayson Hamasaka.

She also coordinates other music artists for the party.

Saboi is also aspiring to stand in Kafue or Chilanga constituencies under the blessing of the party.

“Our leader knows that we are in constant battle with a vicious system. So it is surprising that he has become over confident and quite careless with his social conduct” disclosed a senior leader.

    “He can’t be…

    • So kanshi HH is really on heat bonking Maureen Mwanawasa and Saboi too?? What of those we hear not of ?? Emo alefumisha election loss frustrations ???

  2. Michael Chilufya Sata Hospital?? You’ve got to be kidding me. What did Michael Sata achieve in health or any discipline that could have improved the welfare of his country men? Nothing, only full of nepotism and corruption.

    • Suntwe uli mbwa. Sata did more in 3 years than any of the other Presidents did in their tenures, not to demean any of them.

    • MICHAEL CHILUFYA SATA DID A LOT IN 3 YEAR THAN ANY PRESIDENT OF ZAMBIA DID IN THEIR FULL AND DECADES OF TENURE. IT IS MCS WHO HAS BROUGHT TREMENDOUS POSITIVE CHANGES IN ZAMBIA THAN ANY OTHER PRESIDENT IN ZAMBIA AND BEYOND.

    • @4.1 and 4.3, I beg to differ with you. Sata’s record does not beat KK’s. By 1971, KK’s government made sure that every district had at least one secondary school. By 1980 every province had a teachers’ college. KK’s government also established a number of public technical institutes and agricultural colleges throughout the country. UNZA and CBU (formerly ZIT) are projects of KK’s government. Tarred roads from Lusaka to every provincial HQ were don by KK’s government. This not to forget the UTH and a number of district hospitals. There are many other development projects, too numerous to mention, that KK’s government started. Admittedly, KK made some mistakes but his development record is far superior than that of Sata.

  3. if EL win 2016 election,he will definitely construct petauke general hospital as thats our home town and it will be named chagwa hospital.pls not Agwa E L.hospital.

    • Zambia is not developed. In S.A a lot of things were named after Mandela when he was still alive. A bust of Mandela was constructed is it at Union House or parliament and five years has not passed.

  5. ‘As his predecessor I will not relent to ensure that we improve health service,,,,,,, ‘. So now you have become a dead man’s predecessor
And by the way putting up hospital buildings is not the same thing as improving service delivery…… Has there been an upgrade of the quality and quantity of staff, medical supplies and expertise?

    • Know what Webman! In Zambia relating to putting up service infrastructure as clinics, hospitals and, schools, we always buy carts before we even know where to get mules, horses or, oxen to hitch them to. Then looking at the cart we see them bountiful with either farm produce and/or other deliverables until someone cars to ask how the cart will set in motion!

  6. Let us hope it has panadol among the much scarce drugs in Zambian public health centres. Let Kaseba man the theatre and manage cancer cases. It can only serve Bemba/Bisa patients attended to by Bisa/Bemba half baked health practiners- the likes of the most ugly woma -Nkandu Luo who appears like the anus of a rhino.

By the way May the eveil spirit of Maiko Sata continue in pargatory while his stinking corpse , covered by maggots continue rotting.

  7. No more medical trips to South Africa.
The xenophobia could infiltrate the wards/theatres/OPD’s
Well done Mr President, a step in the right direction, to take away business from Morningside Clinic!!!

  8. Some developed countries named roads and things “Mandela” or “Nelson Mandela” before Mandela died.

Where is the 5 year rule?

  9. @Viglen. It didn’t take them long did it? Bloomin’ UPND internet trolls! They will never ever admit to the PF government doing anything right

  10. In South London we have a close (named DESMOND TUTU) he is still alive as far as i know. What are you talking about the 5 year rule. Malabishi fe imwe. Have a life.

  11. Why does he clasp his hands? Is he praying, about to punch someone or he is just a dodgie guy? He is an interesting guy him.

  12. Editor check this… “As his predecessor ” this is as though the late Sata succeeded President Lungu when it’s actually the other way round

  13. This is good development. However, 61 health posts in one district. this is bias development which will result in resentments within the country? What is the justification for this high-level of regionalism?
