THE World Boxing Council (WBC) has ordered for a rematch between Zambia’s Catherine Phiri and Irish Christina MacMahon.

Oriental Quarries Boxing Promotions (OQBP) Operations Manager Christopher Malunga told a media briefing in Lusaka on Monday that the WBC board that reviewed the match found the three judges that adjucate the fight in Lusaka wanting.

He said the judges wrongly awarded points to MacMahon who was announced winner via unanimous points.

The world boxing mother body has ruled that the match should take place before 30 November 2015.

Malunga also disclosed that Catherine will have a non title fight with Miriam Tshabalala of South Africa before the re-match with Christina.

And Catherine’s coach Mike Zulu has declared Catherine ready for the re-match.

The winner of the rematch will automatically qualify to fight Jasmine Rivers of Mexico for the WBC gold championship.

    • Mushota is right! Just seeing all those men in surrounding a successful female boxer is saddening! Please men – go and get jobs instead of cheering women boxers! When a country’s only successful athletes are female, tell its own story … .

    • Go Catherine Go! This is the only sport through which we can reclaim our glory – kabili abena Kalusha balyonaula BOLA.

    • I care!

      Congrats Cathy.
Continue training like you will be fighting two boxers at the same time.

It’s regrettable to realize that the boxing sport has to face such injustices at the moment when our ladies are the only sports personalities standing at the sports battle front.

The Esther fight judgement was even worse.

Ladies, don’t be discouraged; you’re fighters: this hurdles will only make you emerge stronger.
I’m proud of you my pretty girls.

      God bless.

  1. Why their is no comment from mcmahon sponsors? boxing is never judged twice, it was announced the catherine lost PERIOD. Arrange other fights please or if u need a rematch call it something else, the WBC- WAONA BAKU CHAYA, cannot sink so low to say catherine never lost, what is their vadict then it was a draw ??? This catherine has a bright future in boxing cos. she is UGLY so no man can disturb her career in bonking her

  2. In all fairness, Catherine fought well, but if she is to do better next time, she should work on her legs; she was stiff. Second thing is her weight. She should fight light – and work faster in her punching – she was also a little bit slow; not the Catherine that I know from her past fights. But for her humble approach, I believe that she can do better next time; she should not stay longer in the game though!
