Mpulungu farmers bemoan poor harvest

Most farmers under the Food Security Pack (FSP) in Mpulungu have complained of poor yields this year. The farmers made the complaint when Provincial Community Development Officer Chanda Mulenga visited the farmers in Isoko area in Mpulungu over the weekend.

The farmers said the early stoppage of the rains during the 2014/2015 farming season had adversely affected their yields. They said the abrupt rain stoppage may also affect the recoveries for some cash crops such as beans and maize for most beneficiaries.

The farmers however, thanked government for supporting vulnerable people with inputs which had so far greatly improved their livelihoods.

And Community Development Officer Chanda Mulenga urged the farmers to take the government programme seriously.Mr. Chanda disclosed that over 50 farmers benefited from the free inputs supplied by government in Mpulungu district.

He further disclosed that government had also given seven goats to seven vulnerable but viable farmers in the district.Mr. Chanda said 100 x 50kg top dressing and 100 x 50 kg basal dressing fertilizer were distributed to vulnerable but viable farmers in the area.
