POLICE in Sichili in Mulobezi constituency have recovered two offensive weapons and apprehended 19 people in connection with the violence that happened in the area on 29th June 2015.
This happened after the UPND cadres mobilised themselves and gave chase to a Toyota Hilux Reg. No. ABF 2741 which they suspected to have been carrying the people who were involved in yesterday’s shooting.
The cadres who were using two vehicles Registration Numbers ALZ 2695 and ALZ 1106 impounded the Toyota Hilux and drove it to their camp where they later extensively damaged it.
Officers who made a follow up on the case found the three vehicles parked at the UPND camp and upon searching, one of the vehicles was found with two brand new machetes.
The 19 include the driver of the vehicle where the machetes were found and the UPND Campaign manager. Investigations into the matter have continued.
Meanwhile, more officers have been sent to the area to beef-up security.
Police spokesperson Charity Chanda said currently the situation is calm and people should
not be afraid of the heavy presence of the officers as they are there to maintain law and order.

How can pangas that were in parked vehicles and were not being brandished be classified as offensive? Others party cadres actually use them but are never arrested. Selective policing at its worst.

How can 19 people share two pangas? besides they are saying brand new, meaning they have never been used. I also move with one in my car just in I have a break down I can use it to cut fire wood for my warmth. Am I at risk of arrest? Under what law?

If there is any truth to the story, then the UPND meant to defend themselves from the PF mafias who have been using guns against them. The police need to be more professional and less partisan. The useless PF police are quick to arrest the opposition but not to arrest PF cadres who have shot innocent people. UPND have the right to have any weapon at their disposal to protect themselves from PF who’re violet to them. With the useless PF police who keep a blind eye to PF violence, I too would have a weapon to protect myself. They also have a right to arrest the driver of the vehicle which shot at their cadres.
This just screams DESPERATE on PFs part.
