President Edgar Lungu has left Botswana after attending the two day 35th Ordinary SADC Heads of State and Government Summit which convened yesterday 17 August, 2015.

The Presidential Challenger Jet carrying President Lungu left Sir Seretse Khama International Airport at 12:35hours this afternoon.

ZANIS reports from Botswana that while in Botswana, President Lungu attended the 35th Official opening of the Ordinary SADC Heads of State and Government Summit where he stressed the need to establish a conducive business environment in the region
The President said establishing a conducive environment will promote sustainable development and provide a base on which the private sector and other economic players can thrive.

He made these remarks when he presented his maiden speech presented during the official opening of the Summit.

Mr. Lungu also recognised the firm foundation on which SADC was established to mould a better future for the region’s citizens in today’s changing global environment.

He also pointed that the region can only achieve its economic development with the presence of peace and stability.

He further expressed gratitude towards the regional body for the tremendous progress scored in areas of food security, trade, infrastructure development, health, security, and education.

Other areas of achievements recorded are the construction of the Kazungula Bridge, which was built under the Zambezi River, Chirundu One Stop Border Post, the UNIVISA Pilot projects and trans-frontier conservation areas.

Mr. Lungu is optimistic that the Summit can deliver more if the member states expend their energies towards the key SADC Initiatives such as Front loading Industrialisation and market.

And during the SADC Heads of State closed sessions, the member states noted that only Zambia and Tanzania recorded a food surplus during an analysis of cereal production carried out among the member states in the region.

As a result, the Summit encouraged Zambia and Tanzania to use the food surplus effectively and urged all countries to ensure that those who are experiencing food shortages as a result of a cereal deficit during the 2014/2015 poor rainfall get required interventions in terms of relief maize and relief cereal production.

To this effect, President Lungu is expected to make major interventions in the 2015/2016 farming season and announce measures that will encourage both poor and small scale farmers to benefit as much as possible.

  1. Zambia and Tanzania are the only countries which recorded food surplus in the region. Well the opposite has there opposition stories to this. Ifintu kubombesha not politicians because they are the same.

    • The story is not confirming if Edgar is in Zambia, it is just left for, maybe he has via J’berg or some other country.
It is unheard of that Edgar can go for a meeting and get back home within 2 days.

  2. “ THE SADC HEADS OF STATE AND GOVERNMENT HAS PRAISED ZAMBIA AND TANZANIA FOR BEING
THE ONLY TWO COUNTRIES WITH A FOOD SURPLUS IN THE REGION”.

People have now begun to appreciate ECL at plot 1.

Which President since the dawn of our democracy has scored 7/7 bye election victories in a roll?

    • Poor analysis. Factor into your analysis the regions where the by elections have been happening what led to the elections. Then you will be able to see why and fail to praise Lungu. Here are few examples: Malambo seat lost by MMD and won by PF through open tribalism (Wako ni wako), Petauke seat lost by MMD and the same candidate whose seat was grabbed by PF was fielded by PF same with Senga Hill, Chawama seat lost by PF and won by PF, Mulobezi lost by MMD and won by UPND although PF had to use guns to grab the seat etc. I cant argue with you more. From your post, you are incapable of any meaningful debate. Maybe with fellow grade 7s.

  3. Great news. Our President left Botswana!!!
Next great news: after take-off, HE uses executive wc on executive presidential jet!!!
Following news: Our President arrives back to Zambia in presidential executive jet!!!

    WOW

  4. I see that “Luapula Premier” is praising Lungu for winning 7 Bye Elections. Surely, is this the level of discussion we are reduced to? Surely the aim of politics is to look after our people and not to ‘win bye elections’. The question we shud ask is has Lungu made the lives of the ordinary Zambian better or worse? Iam only interested in how I can better look after my family economically. That is what we must all be interested in. Not if Lungu has won bye elections! That is the thinking of a cadre – who makes a living from politics. If Lungu can improve the economy, then I will vote for him. If HH can improve the economy I will vote for him. But from what we are witnessing, Lungu has no clue at all! Where are the 500,000 jobs going to come from in an economy that is shrinking and…

  5. …… Where is aLungu going to create 500,000 jobs in an economy that is shrinking and losing jobs? What time does he find to sit down and work at his desk? Let’s be a bit more serious about how we address issues. Life is not about bye-elections! It is about the economy! Have you as a President improved the lives of the people you are ruling? If not, get out of the seat!

  6. At JKL
If you and your family are not benefiting too bad for you matole yobe. Ifuntu ni Lungu. Things have improved and keep improving that is why bye elections for MPs is so far 7 to 0 and we are heading to 10 to 0. So keep dreaming with your Mmembe and Chanda beu, ati ba president forsake amafi.
Next year is 2016 ECL again and HH 5 to 0, that is the short story.

  7. Abusing the president with the wrong words in the news papers its not a solution of development to our mother Zambia we need to unite as Zambians and give respect to our president Mr lungu .am also thanking chief Mumena for the surpport his giving to our president mr lungu.
