Government has purchased new utility vehicles for all the 104 District Commissioners ( DC ) in the country in order to enable them monitor development projects in the respective districts.

Lusaka Province Permanent secretary Stardy Mwale says this is because government was committed to ensuring that all district commissioners in the country had good transport that would enable them supervise government programmes in their respective districts.

Mr. Mwale disclosed this when he paid a courtesy call on Chirundu district commissioner Alfred Hamunjo on Thursday at his office.

The provincial PS stated that government was aware of the challenges of transport that most DCs faced but at the same time urged them to remain patient as government through the ministry of works and Transport has purchased the new vehicles to improve in their operations.

“Government is aware of the transport challenge that most district commissioners are faced with and it for this reason that government through the ministry of Works and Transport has bought brand new vehicles for all the district commissioners country wide which will be given to you soon, I think the ministry of works is just doing final modalities like insuring the vehicles.” Mwale said.

And speaking earlier, Mr. Hamunjo told Mr. Mwale that the district administration in Chirundu was facing a big challenge of transport as the only vehicle for the DC had developed major mechanical faults and needed to be replaced by a new one.

Mr. Hamunjo said the terrain of Chirundu was mountainous hence the need to have a good vehicle which will be able to reach far flung areas on the hilly parts of the district.

He added that most government department in Chirundu were equally facing the problem of transport and appealed for the intervention of r. Mwale.

  1. Zambia is truly a rich country a vehicle develops a fault we replace it with a brand new one, I also wonder whether this spending is a priority over retirees pensions, lecturers arrears and that huge bill government has for medical supplies pro etc etc poor government indeed. Insult all you want these guys have failed and are the worst disaster to have happened to Zambia. Other countries have floods, earthquakes, tsunamis, terrorists etc in Zambia we have these guys.

    • Spot on! When you go to ministry’s, you will find vehicles almost new, deserted, some vehicles are in “the walking dead” state, new, but dusty with a broken window, yet they are replaced by new ones. Isnt it common sense that we can get inventory of all these vehicles, round them up in a yard, have mechanics work on them till they are fit to run, then dispatch them to other districts in need. The lack of common sense by these people is really disturbing,. VILIBE NZELU VIBANTU IVI SURE….

    • Yes 2016 campaign has started, those DCs need those vehicles to deliver chitenges and brown envelops to village headmen.

  2. Kikiki ECL is our natural disaster. That would have been funny had it not been true. Now disaster management is in the VEEP’s office, who’s gonna sort this mess out for us.
But to a larger extent we are our own natural disaster for allowing mediocrity to oversee our national affairs.
Next time you see your voter’s card, don’t see tribe but see prudent management of your state affairs.
After voting don’t sit back & expect someone to sort out your problems, stand up & demand to sort them out.

  3. what is make and model, unit cost —-total cost
When were vehicles to be replaced purchased and what happens to them
No wonder that Head of state in west africa wants to maintained death by firing squad!!!

  4. This is good news ! Our DCs will now be more effective as they will be able to monitor govt projects and programs.Guys, this govt is really working hard and its well focused.

    • You can only be one of 2 people either a ) a cadre or b) a DC who has just received a vehicle congratulations enjoy it while it lasts. Life and time is a great equaliser. You will see things more clearly when you have been weaned off the power you are currently drunk on.

    • No wonder your govt is broke and being bankrolled by borrowed money as it has no priorities and is blessed with a dull ill informed voters like yourself….do you know how many DCs are there? A chunk of that borrowed money is going to paying of these waste of space.

      Wake up!!

When we tell you that this is a govt of empty tins with no priorities this is what we mean…what is the role of a politically appointed DCs? Provincial PSs where doing this job alright but since Zambia is very wealthy the old man Sata created pointless jobs for his dull cadres.

  6. What a shame ECL! Of all the challenges we are in you go ahead and approval this waste. How are we electorates going to benefit from this empty spending? 2016 come like yesterday we deal with this bullshit!
