Zambia visit Mozambique with CHAN qualification in their sights

Zambia are on the verge of securing their first CHAN qualification since 2009 as they face Mozambique in the return leg of the final qualifying round away at Machava Stadium on Sunday.

Zambia, who are carrying a 3-0 advantage from the first leg match played in Ndola, need just a draw away in Maputo to end a seven-year hiatus from the competition they missed in 2011 and 2014.

Despite a 3-0 deficit from the first leg the Mambas are not throwing in the towel yet.

“It is an uphill battle but we are working hard to change what happened in Zambia,” Mozambique coach Helder “Mano Mano” Muianga said.

On the other hand, Zambia are sure of securing qualification on Sunday.

Striker Winston Kalengo who scored the first goal in the first leg at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium said Zambia are not leaving anything to chance.

“We are not going to take anything for granted. We have to win and we shall show no mercy,” Kalengo said.

Zambia are eager to bounce back at CHAN since winning Bronze at the inaugural tournament hosted by Cote d’Ivoire in 2009.

Coach George Lwandamina is also anxious to pay back for his failure to qualify Zambia for the 2011 CHAN as interim trainer.
