President Edgar Lungu has sworn in Nchelenge Member of Parliament (MP) Raymond Mpundu as Deputy Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry.

Mr. Mpundu has replaced Matero MP Miles Sampa who recently resigned from his portfolio as Deputy Minister.

President Lungu said he did not struggle to appoint Mr. Mpundu to succeed Mr. Sampa because the latter has rich professional credentials worth recognizing.

He has since directed the new Deputy Minister of Commerce to revamp the department of cooperatives which has now been attached to the Ministry of Commerce from the Ministry of Agriculture.

The President said the Ministry of Commerce should utilise the cooperatives to create more jobs for the citizens in the area of agriculture.

Mr. Lungu pointed out that the cooperative movement has potential to create employment for Zambians hence he transferred it to the Ministry of Commerce so that it can be utilised in that manner.

And speaking to journalists shortly after being sworn in, Mr. Mpundu thanked President Lungu for entrusting him with a responsibility in the Ministry of Commerce which is an economic backbone of the country.

He expressed happiness to be part of the team that will provide solutions to the economic challenges the country is currently facing.

Mr. Mpundu has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and a professional Banker with huge experience in cooperatives after serving as Managing Director of Zambia Cooperatives Federation (ZCF).

    • The very next replacement will occur at State House, because if these promotions go with hard work, then for sure we shall be swearing in a new head of state by August 2016. Hard work and Edgar Lungu can not be used in the same sentence.

  1. sometimes in life you can think you are so irreplaceable, so important more sharper, but thats a nightmare; there will always be guys better than you. infact God has always had alternatives, if u reject to do the job today God or the nation will never be stranded. so when given an opportunity, serve with all the passion, the same God who put you there will fight for you when opposition is raised against you. as for ba Sampa, its just a matter of time, the real truth will come out. zambia has always had pipo suffering, the poverty levels in matero and everywhere is high and has been high, so he cant tell us that that when he has realised that pipo are suffering. thats not true. at the right , nevetheless, i can vote for sampa for presidency, but deception yena ibi

  2. How many people is he going to instruct to revamp Kaundas cooperatives? Chikwanda, Mwanakatwe, sampa, mpundu……..

  3. Too Bad for Sampa – He may have thought himself too important. Now his resignation has even gone unnoticed and very quickly he has been replaced by one with better credentials and a humble disposition. Such is pride and arrogance.. One becomes too self consumed, they are too blind to the reality play. I hope he doesn’t join GBM, because then he will certainly compromise his position as MP for Matero Constituency. Very easily the end of a possible great political career..

    • Miles Sampa deserves kudos for taking the bold step of resigning from the position of a deputy minister after taking certain things into consideration. It is rarely done in Zambia. There is so much dead wood in the current Zambian cabinet who should either resign or replaced. Unfortunately they are not principled enough and the appointing authority has no guts to fire non-delivering ministers. The end result is a country moving in circles because it is stuck with clueless leaders.

  4. HH supporters whatever the President does is bad in your dull faculties! Miles has gone into kilometers and will be forgotten soon. He erroneously thinks like Kabimba and HH that they can make it to State House. HH will be disappointed again for the fifth time and you must watch this space.

  5. It is you who will be disappointed for you don’t know that Chagwa is leaving State house come 2016. Relax and wait for next year

  6. Whether Miles goes into oblivion is not the point. The point is he has chosen to leave the comfort of a ministerial office. That’s worth of praise.
He knew that he would be subjected to insults & attacks but he still went ahead. That’s BALLS. Inspite of all your weaknesses you have my respect for this boldness.
