MINISTER of Commerce, Trade and Industry Margaret Mwanakatwe says competition is important because it helps to improve the quality of goods and services.

Ms Mwanakatwe said competition benefits consumers.

She said her ministry is delighted when professional bodies supplement its efforts by taking up the duty of encouraging players in industry to aspire for recognition and better ways of doing business.

Ms Mwanakatwe was speaking during the Zambia Institute of Marketing’s 19th annual marketing awards ceremony at Avani Falls Resort in Livingstone in a speech read for her by deputy director of commerce John Mulongoti.

“We know that Zambia’s economy can only grow if enterprises are thriving. Enterprises can only thrive if we have good marketing practices aimed at creating value for customers,” she said.

Ms Mwanakatwe said marketing takes centre-stage in entrepreneurship development.

She said good marketing practices are a cornerstone of success in every aspect of business, especially in an entrepreneurial setup.

“This is the more reason Government has taken interest in cultivating collaborative relationships with professional bodies such as the Zambia Institute of Marketing,” she said.
Ms Mwanakatwe said Government is aware that these awards are meant to stimulate good marketing practices among individuals, business practitioners and member organisations.

ZIM president Evans Muhanga challenged members to dedicate time to the institute.

He urged his members to give out to the institute through their talents, adding that the skills and knowledge the members have are important for the development of the organisation.

  1. Has this woman (Madam Mwanakatwe) started paying back her debts? Very shameful to have a Commerce Minister who has not only totally failed to run her small business but has also lumped it with bad debt. And on top of that She wants to sound as though she a KNOW-IT-ALL.

    • Ironic that she is the one praising competition when her Kantemba businesses have lamentably failed to compete and are now being dragged to court by some bank and CEEC over loans they contracted. She has no sense of shame, this woman!

  2. Oh my! Is that how deep the hatred of ECL goes, I mean hating human beings and a hardworking lady like that just because you lost the elections? I shudder to think what will happen when the real shocks come in 2016, when some overconfident parties will be on the verge of collapse due to failure to win elections followed by a lack of systems to elect and replace failed leaders without the tinge of tribal DNA, as one good man called it.
