UPND president Hakainde Hichilema said limiting the UPND’s movements and activities does not solve the economic challenges the people of Zambia are going through.

He said Copperbelt residents called for a rally, but UPND are law abiding citizens and as all their police notifications for rallies in the Copperbelt had been denied or cancelled they could not oblige. He said in fact these are serious governance issues that further dent the country’s image and have the potential to scare investors and international development organisations. The UPND  therefore downscaled to a mobilisation tour which was still being hindered by Zambia Police.

Mr Hakainde said Zambia Police and other law enforcement agencies have been trying to block the UPND’s indoor party mobilisation meetings on the Copperbelt since they arrived.

‘To be honest, these officers need our support as they are equally going through the same economic hardships like all other Zambians. In some cases it is even worse for them, as their salaries are not only low but these days often paid late. They are not well motivated by the PF government yet they work under extreme pressure.

These officers and other security personnel do not have special shops, schools, etc which are cheaper. They are human like all of us and know what is good for the country.
We have no issues with these innocent officers at all. We only have issues with the country’s ruling PF political leadership that abuse our men and women in uniform, including all other security wings.

Honestly how do you have a ruling party politician imposing basically a curfew on the people of the Copperbelt that they should never hear any alternative economic solutions other than from those who cannot even articulate or solve the challenges people are going through?

We are trying to embrace democracy in our country in a manner that promotes good governance that attracts economic investment and betters our people’s lives.Honestly how do you have a ruling party politician imposing basically a curfew on the people of the Copperbelt that they should never hear any alternative economic solutions other than from those who cannot even articulate or solve the challenges people are going through?’

Fellow Zambians, we all love this great country and we must both defend that which we think is just and at the same time condemn those injustices in our society.
Today it is HH, GBM, and others being denied freedoms, but tomorrow it will be students, trade unions, women and men, civil society organisations, workers and eventually individuals. This is a dangerous path,’

Addressing hundreds of supporters in Chililabombwe during the opening of new UPND offices,Mr.Hakainde said Chililabombwe remains a major contributor to Zambia’s wealth production since independence. He said Chililabombwe has been depleted even of its meager resources, hence leaving the residents more impoverished and urgently in need of an economic lifeline to revamp it.

The UPND leader said the UPND will not relent until the people of Chililabombwe on the Copperbelt and Zambians in general are economically liberated and proud again.

‘We are so far enjoying massive support from the people of Chililabombwe and across the Copperbelt. We ask that they remain resolute as 2016 is nearing and will be the birth of a new journey for Zambians,’Mr.Hakainde said.

‘We are calling on the provincial leadership to embrace everyone as UPND is determined to unite the country and never permit divisions,’he said.

And speaking at the same event, UPND Vice President for administration Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba reminded the Chililabombwe residents of how PF has blatantly made false promises, such as lowering the price of mealie meal, cooking oil, and other essential commodities.Mr. Mwamba said the time has come for Zambians to choose a leader based on capabilities, skills, credibility, and economic know how.

  1. Populist politics can be very dangerous for peace. The nation is undergoing serious economic difficulties. This is the time that unpatriotic Zambians can collude with foreign interests to cause anarchy and despondency to usurp power. We see where the world is going with the happenings in Europe right now. The government of the day has a very difficult job to do under these circumstances and Mr. HH and his team need to know this. We have a nation to look after and therefore let’s be conscious of our actions and behave responsibly. Money for destabilization can come from many sources and create more misery for our people.

    • You are missing the fact that the Govt is causing anarchy and despondency by suppressing its citizens. Freedom should not just be talked about; it should be seen to be there. HH and his team, though I may not agree with them, are within the confines of the freedom given within the law. We fought KK over such issues and we want to hear divergent views on what is offered by different political players so that as voters we can make well balanced choices. Can’t you see that the opposition is oppressed? Where is ZNBC, Times of Zambia and Daily Mail? Look at how our tax moneys are spent. ECl was on the CB campaigning and you don’t see anything wrong in them saying others should not campaign? WAKE UP MY FRIEND YOU ARE SLEEPING!

  2. Democracy can’t thrive without protection of basic human freedom rights. This is the price of having people who don’t know what leadership in a democracy looks like. We have a group of thieves and thugs running the affairs of the nation. Can’t believe Zambia could subject her citizens to that in this age and era. Fellow country men and women, let’s vote wisely this time around. Things are bad in our great country and we cannot hide this fact.

    • Fellow Zambians 51 yrs after independence we are still behaving as if we are not a democratic state.Abash stone age politics we are no longer a chiefdom ,but a democratic state with a constitution to follow.Abash tribalism ,Zambia is part of a Global village and we have inter married .HH has many Nephews and nieces who are Bemba or ngoni how can he persecute the Bembas the answer is no.fellow Zambians lets allow HH to show us what he can do to this Economy,if he fails we shall remove him also.PF and Lungu have failed to run this country even agrade 2 child knows ifintu tafili bwino bane.

  3. I am appealing to the government to grab those batons from the hands of those frail looking police.
Zambians, however wrong they may be, don’t deserve knock on the head from those buttons.

The use of a baton on humans is barbaric!

  4. We are back to the days of “Kafue” aka curfew of the late 80s under KK.

Freedom of movement and assembly is non-derogable (can’t be ousted).

    Maibiye…..freedom come!!!!

  5. And the ministry has allocated allowances for these officers for just standing on the road instead of going to arrest thieves in compounds. Waste of money and time shame.!

  6. Zambians beware, this is how dictatorship starts in a country. ZP are being used as tools of oppression by those in power! During MMD reign there was a bit of professionalism in ZP but now with madam Stella in the driving seat, the little professionalism in ZP has completely vanished. ZP should concentrate on ensuring crime in the country is reduced, instead of concentrating on arresting innocent opposition leaders under the disguise of Public Order Act. Are we going back to the old UNIP era?

  7. @Observer & Nubian Princess: CONTINUE TO LIVE IN THE WORLD OF SELF DENIAL. READING BETWEEN THE LINES, I CAN SENSE PANIC, FEAR, DELUSION AND APPREHENSION IN YOU. YOU SEEM TO BE DIRECT BENEFICIARIES OF THE REGIME. YOU ARE SCARED OF ITS FAST APPROACHING WRETCHED AND WOEFUL END. BUT THE EARLIER THE END OF THIS AWFUL REGIME THE BETTER FOR THE PEOPLE OF ZAMBIA.

  8. No wonder Zambia is developing at a negative rate because of selfish minions in the name of HH. Campaigning has a limited time . There is a reason why campaigns come to an end at 18hrs before voting day. They remain closed until such a time ecz calls for them. Now this under five wants to do politics all the time distracting govt progress. There is no security to waste on you for gathering innocent people. WAIT for ecz to fix date for such activities and no one will stop you. For now stay away from campaigns.

  9. Good luck HH, your task is to transform those crowds into votes, you don”t have that yet, sober up mune, ni ku kopala uko!

  10. This is Zambian politics at it most folly…the cycle goes on …Hakainde knows for sure that the colonial law states that you can not do that but risks breaking the law and getting arrested…all these opposition political parties simply need come together and lobbying to repeal such ancient laws but unfortunately they are too self centered and would rather be arrested for political mileage.

  11. Repeat movie. Just a bit more desperate for main actor boma this time. Supporting actor in main opposition will emerge winner just like in 1991 and 2011.

  12. Unbelievable that some bloggers can still support state terrorism. The PF itself does not abide by those ancient laws. They campaign and do as they please. Besides, those laws, if at all they are being interpreted correctly, clearly breach Constitutional rights that guarantee freedom of speech, assembly and association. If an opposition party cannot be allowed to have simple meetings, it says a lot about the kind of people in power – primitive souls bent on usurping all that is before them in total disregard of the welfare and well-being of the people. A power hungry clueless governing party that will be the downfall of Zambia if allowed to continue in this manner beyond 2016.

  13. Fellow Zambians please register en masse for your right to participate in governance through your vote whichever way it may suit you according to the personal analysis of what we hear from political players! Where does each one of us place our expectations between the choices of either LOW or HIGH?

  14. HH you were given an
opportunity to do the honourable thing in your life time as a young young man instead you took advantage of that opportunity and made yourself the richest man in the name of intellectual advice of privatisation of the Zambia resources and now you’re want to go back mocking the venerable poor people.
You think you’re too smart, you will pay back all the wealthy you aquired through
    You’re shrewd deals.
You’re an undercover biggest jerabo and
    Every knowledgeable Zambian knows.
Thus why you will never be a Zambian Prresident.
    You need deliverance and confession.
So just give back all what you aquired in that part of the poor Zambian community.

  15. HH U PRETEND AS IF U DO NOT NEED POLICE PROTECTION,TAKE CARE SECURITY IS GUD BUT IF U TAKE IT AS IF ITS ONEWAY OF BLOCKING U THEN IT WILL BE SAD WHEN U~ KOPALA IS NOT NEGA NEGA THEY WILL NEGA NEGA YOU

  16. For those olde enough to remember the KK days when we were denied our freedom, it is imperative that Zambians should rise up and say no to dictatorship. Lungu went to Kitwe and addressed scores of people but no police man denied him of his freedom. Lungu’s wife from Chawama is now going everywhere in Zambia and no one is stopping her. You PF cadres grow up. Zambia is bigger than PF or any other political party. What is so special about Lungu? he is just human being like HH & GBM. Soon he will be forgotten. he should learn from KK wamuyaya?

  17. Pf is no longer a party of choice on the c/b. Under pf people are poorer. The low voter turnout speaks for itself. Many of those that have registered will vote for change.

  18. Ba kachema, we saw bigger crowds of people from copperbelt at upnd rallies in January elecrions, but translated to nothing in terms of votes.Even ECL pulled crowds in Southern province,so these crowds should not excite u kachemas because reality will shock next year.

    • @Hakana Hukupepa I think waya sana you deserve to be given a reply.Sober up we are not in stone age were chiefs ruled wamuyaya. We no longer leave in caves but we are now part of a world wide Global village. We all Zambians pliz don’t use names like Kachema or what ever.Normal Zambians are listening and seing this kind of tribalism.you just de campaigning yourseves.HH missed it by wisker this time he will make it because he has something to offer.2016 is a different ball game.If HH is not a factor why block him?wina azilila.

  19. BJ Mumbi Phiri goes to Eastern Province to receive MMD, UNIP, UPND defectors, no ZP to stop her or maybe that is not political campaigns as defined by others. Let everyone feel free to campaign.

  20. #Mambala, you have a point. But then, PF is full of many illiterates who’ll interpret what Mumbi did as something else other than campaigning. maybe they’ll understand if you say it in Bemba. What amazes me is that PF cadres in Diaspora are also behaving like their fellow cadres in Zambia. We condemned the MMD for oppressing PF while in opposition and now PF is doing the same things we condemned and their cadres in Diaspora are rejoicing. Will they be happy to see UPND doing the same thing to PF in 2016? Shame on them. Let us praise PF where praise is due and condemn them when they do bad things.

  21. To HH and his new adviser, great bag of maize(the name was given to him by UPND supporters when GBM was minister of defence), I will say this, ” there is a time for every thing”. Remember in 2015 you campaigned for 90 days but you were beaten by a mere minister who only campaigned for three weeks. In fact during the 2015 campaigns you had Guy Scott(muzungu opusa as per HH) on your side. Starting your campaign now does not guarantee that you will win the 2016 elections. The crowds you see attending your rallies now will not automatically translate into votes for you.

  22. Limiting u will not solve economical problems unless they allow u. This villager also ifyamba too much. He is in c/belt to get ashishi from pilato. I feel pit for u & gbm u risk yo ~ take zed’s trend of picking presidents no one has been obvious, rich nkummbula was obvious but its kk who was picked from nowhere mere teacher, chiluba same, mwanawasa, banda, lungu. Pa zed after lungu we will be given another name not u chaps jumping up and down getting credits from countries allover the world thinking u will win & pay back when u become president. U want mines u thief kopala mwaingililwa na chi devil tanfyeni. All zambians shud be united and support lungu he is for the poor.muchinga,np why is hh not coming there now he just want votes then dump u

    • @Owee pee its people like you who are making our country a haven of poverty and back wardness. take your stupidity to your father the devil.why are you still dweling in caves in this modern era.you are still tide to a tribe we chinangwa we. Most of us young Zambians we want to join progressive politics a tribe does not mean a thing to us .we are part of a Global village. Our choice for now is HH.We the youths are a product of inter marriages and we are the majority we shall make sure Lungu is voted out in 2016.we need jobs and creative ideas so that we can transform Zambia in green agriculture zone couple with many industries.Zambia shall begin to export real products to the word.

  23. Okay guys, the fact is HH and UPND will NEVER FORM GOVERMENT. Our focus and resolve as PF is to work day in day out and the outcome will surely be a landslide victory for President Lungu. So PF must not be distracted by these bafoons, lets keep the eye on the ball of development and ensuring that the common man can afford mealie meal and other essentials. The opposition are very weak in this battle based on my assessment. PF has about 11 months before elections and with the development momentum currently experienced maintained, all it will take is the trickle of dollars in the country and minimised load shedding and the Under 5 will be buried deeper than the ocean. As PF, we have work to do. This strategy of distracting us from work will NOT WIN HH THE ELECTIONS, NEVER!!!

  24. @ SIDO MARK
Please stop dreaming! Reality is that PF is very strong on the ground and unfortunately you guys have opted to give a blind eye to whats happening! The question your Under 5 must answer is how will he influence the price of copper to just shoot up on the global market? where will HH get water to generate electricity from other than God given rains? How long does it take for a country to be economically dependent on agriculture to support the numerous development needs?
If indeed HH was a genius as you hold him, how come he has lost so many bye-elections to a PF and new entrant on the game called President Lungu?
We have a packaged message for our people which the opposition fortunately doesn’t have now and in the next ten years!!!

  25. @ufo, I hope they pay you very well to type nonsense drivel, you know too well things are not to well in Zambia right now and PF leadership has failed the Zambians.
I see you come out everyday and type like you are fighting for your life, am pretty sure you have benefited financially from PF rule and don’t give a damn about the facts. PF days are numbered, save the money you have gained from this because it won’t last.

  26. ZAMBIA POLICE SHOULD KNOW THAT PHYSICALLY THEY WILL BLOCK HH AND HIS TEAM FROM ADDRESSING ZAMBIANS ON THE COPPERBELT, BUT MENTALLY THEY CAN NOT CHANGE PEOPLE’S MIND-SET TO VOTE FOR A BETTER OPTION WHICH IS HH AND UPND. WE HAVE SUFFERED IT IS ENOUGH, NOW THE WIND OF CHANGE IS SWEEPING THRU COPPERBELT LIKE VELD FIRE! LUNGU WAPYA MULILO!PF IS DEAD ON THE COPPERBELT. CHAPWA! VIVA HH VIVA! VIVA UPND VIVA!

  27. hh should stop chasing the police. i see him trying to chide the police, sata style. but sata was wise enough to avoid contact, respect the law and allowed police to follow him. may be it’s because he was also once a police but clearly the approach won him their hearts

  28. @truth, upnd can’t win in copperbelt no day dreaming. The suffering you are talking about is not caused by the current government, if you will be truthful its because of the bad way the all process of privatization was done, for your information once upon a time the Zambian manufacturing industry used to produce uniforms for soldiers and export to German, I think lets face reality we are no longer doing that. The problem is we are too emotional, Currently government only has three companies Zamtel, Ncz,Zambia railways… I hope by next year it will be four, Zambia Airways. How then will the economy blossom when the base was destroyed by MMD and the agent in the name of hh.You know its like you have a house and you put it on rent to bring you income, then you sell it, how then do you…

    • YOU ARE TRYING TO ADVANCE A LAME EXCUSE MY FRIEND. IT WAS DURING MWANAWASA AND MAGANDE’S ERA THAT ZAMBIA RECOVERED ITS ECONOMY TO THE SATISFACTION OF ALL THE ZAMBIAN POEPLE, AND THAT WAS LONG AFTER CHILUBA AND PRIVATIZATION. WHY DO YOU BLAME HH FOR PRIVATIZATION WHEN HE WAS NOT IN GOVERNMENT AND NOT EVEN A DECISION MAKER. GET REAL MY FRIEND, ADMIT IT THAT PF AND LUNGU HAVE FAILED TO RUN OUR COUNTRY. THAT IS WHY COPPERBELT HAS REJECTED YOUR THICK HEADED LUNGU. VIVA HH VIVA! VIVA UPND VIVA!

  29. Elections are very far. Don’t finish your energy on petty issues. PF you have work to do. Don’t keep on chasing HH because he is just distracting your focus.

Mukonkelesheni HH and ntau izasila, muyojana buyo mulicelelwe Bamwisho.

  30. LIKE NUBIA IS SAYING HH MUST grow up and go back to your farm and be Headman. Zambia is bigger than your hardheadedness! AND CAUSING CONFUSION AND TENSION IN C/BELT MY APPEAL. LET THE POLICE DEAL WITH HIM

  31. Zambians are always duped imagine this government still has some influence from RB ! PF is aware that they are losing it on the copperbelt hence the use of police force.
Why is PF contrasting itself , just a month ago you declared 18th Oct a day of Fasting and prayer and now you are busy instructing police to disrupt UPND meeting why ?
People remember you can lie today but this will show worse still you ha e failed to negotiate job loses on the Copperbelt yet still want to have following there. Those cadres who are in the forefront of distabilizing UPND meeting are puring Chimbwili’s follwers lets wait and see after the 4000 job loses where we will be on the copperbelt

  32. @truth in Levy’s time copper was almost 10,000 dollars per tonne, how much is copper today, And our nation as of now still depend on copper. The current government is serious working on infrastructure development country wide, the kind of development we last saw in the 1970s. What pf has achieved in five year, MMD didn’t achieve in 20 years, pls move around. Viva pf
