Mambwe District has exceeded the maize production target for the 2025/2026 farming season.
Mambwe District Agricultural Coordinator Henry Mukulumoya said the district targeted a maize production of 21,350 metric tonnes for the 2025/2026 farming season.
Mr Mukulumoya said the district however managed to surpass its target of 21,350 tonnes by producing 28,995 tonnes of maize.
He added that the output was however slightly lower than the 2024/2025 production season due to the negative impact of floods experienced across the district in March 2026.
“In the 2024-2025 farming season, the District produced 29,082 tonnes of maize,” he said.
The DACO further advised farmers to retain sufficient food stocks to guarantee household food security.
“In anticipation of the El Nino, I would like to advise farmers in the District to retain sufficient food stocks to guarantee their own household food security as the challenges associated with the Elnino weather pattern can be disruptive,” he advised.
