Kitwe United moan promotion flop

Kitwe United chairman Gabriel Akayombokwa is apologising to club owners and supporters over the team’s failure to win promotion to the FAZ Super Division this season.

The Buchi Boys finished 11th on the 18-team FAZ Division One North table with 45 points from 34 matches.

The Kitwe City Council club spent most of the season fighting relegation.

Akayombokwa said Kitwe United have let down club owners and supporters.

“I am a sad chairman because Kitwe United have never finished this low in Division One.

I am just apologising to our sponsors and supporters over our failure to win promotion,” he said.

“Our sponsors(Kitwe City Council) are not happy with our performance and we are saying sorry to our fans as well,” Akayombokwa said.

He attributed Kitwe’s low display to changes made t the technical bench midway through the season.

Akayombokwa believes Kitwe will bounce back next season.

“We are going to sit as a team to analyse what went wrong. We want to promise that the best will come out next season.”

Kitwe were relegated from the FAZ Super Division in 2006.
