Veep denies banning rallies on the Copperbelt

Headlines Veep denies banning rallies on the Copperbelt

Vice President Inonge Wina addressing a rally at Ipusikilo Primary School ground in Lubansenshi constituency in Luwingu district to drum up support for the PF candidate for the parliamentary by-election, George Mwamba
Vice President Inonge Win says her statement in Parliament last week on opposition political party meetings on the Copperbelt has been taken out of context.

During the Vice President’s question time this morning, Ms. Wina says at no point did she insinuate that all political meetings on the Copperbelt had been banned.

She says what she said was that at the time the UPND requested for permission to hold meetings on the Copperbelt, President Edgar Lungu was in the province engaging mining companies on how issues relating to their operations could be resolved.

She says while every political party has a right to hold a political rally, Police on the Copperbelt could have at that particular time deemed it not appropriate for political meetings after assessing the situation.

Ms. Wina says it is only those who are taking her statement on political meetings on the Copperbelt out of context who know their reasons.

She states that Zambians and political parties in particular have the right to hold rallies anywhere in the country provided they follow what is provided in the law.

Asked by MMD Mumbwa Member of Parliament Brian Chituwo whether she still stands by her statement that political parties should not go to the Copperbelt because of the challenges being faced in the mining province, Ms. Wina said there is no way Dr. Chituwo would suggest that she is changing her statement.

  1. Mama Wina you are indeed a politician. Even your vuvuzela on the internet were attacking HH & GBM saying that they deserved to be attacked by your machinery and now you are saying you were misunderstood.

It was Nawakwi who was on the Copperbelt at the time ECL was there.

Kabimba has put you in your place “Your decree that opposition political parties will not be allowed to hold meetings on the Copperbelt Province was received with incredulity and utmost dismay, coming from 24 years after Zambia’s reversion to multiparty politics in 1991. We refer to your statement as a decree because it is not supported by any provisions of the law in the absence of a state of emergency,”.

You want to be running the country as you please. Go are the days of the “one party govt” in Zambia.

    • Just a reminder to her honor the Vice president. Mr. Arthur Wina(MHSRIP) was the first chairman of the movement for Multi-party democracy (MMD). He risked his own freedom and life when he agreed to chair this organisation. Through his effort, Zambians were once again after 27 years of autocracy under UNIP and Kaunda, able to assemble freely, speak their opinions, contest in free and fair elections and vote for a candidate of their choice. Kaunda used to stand against a frog. He was too scared to stand against fellow human beings. Are these the days we are going back to? People are busy worshiping and throwing praise on Kaunda. This is a shame. Every Zambian is free to organise political meetings, hold rallies and speak their opinion without intimidation or restriction from any other…

  2. INDEED, IT IS TRUE THAT BIRDS OF SAME FEATHERS FLOCK TOGETHER. THE PF PEOPLE ARE ALL LIARS. I CAN’T BELIEVE IT IS HER SAYING THIS! SHE HAD SAID WHAT SHE IS DENYING TODAY NOT LONG AGO IN PARLIAMENT AND SHE KNOWS THAT IT IS ON RECORD, YET SHE HAS THE COURAGE OR RATHER THE IMPUNITY TO SAY THAT SHE WAS MISUNDERSTOOD. MY FOOT! WHAT MATERIAL ARE THESE PF PEOPLE MADE OF? DO THEY HAVE ANY SENSE OF MORALITY IN THEIR HEADS? AT HER AGE YOU EXPECT HER TO BE A ROLE MODEL OF MORALITY BUT UNFORTUNATELY IT IS NOT THE CASE. VERY SAD, INDEED FOR OUR COUNTRY!

    • Were it The Post quizzing her on what she supposedly said she’d have thought thoroughly before answering the way she did for The Post would have replayed a recording! Anyway could be senile dementia!

  3. Madam Wina shud be a very disappointed woman in that the person she thought Lungu was is not the person she is seeing now. Madam Wina you misled yourself, you also misled a lot of people. Nevertheless, the doors are still open. You still have a chance to show that you do not agree with what your president and his party are doing by leaving pf. Yes! Leave pf and join any political party of your choice. Pf is dead.

  4. Madam Inonge, you are changing statements because a Germany foreign minister is in the country who you think will squeeze financial aid. Last week you were in parliament when instructed PF Police to deny HH entry into CB and HH went ahead with his program of mobilizing members. Many UPND supporters were brutalized and i urge the victims to keep medical reports so that they will be used as evidence in court next year when they will be out of power. Zambia i suppose is a democratic country but you and Edgar has taken us back to the days of KK. We miss Levy Mwanawasa (MHSRIP) HH 2016

  5. That is water under the bridge, HH has since come to his senses and postponed his meetings on the copperbelt until miners’ tempers cool down and reason prevails. Sorry HH, if you were presido of zed you would do the same as advised by OP.

    • @ Almighty 1MBECILE

Now OP is in charge of the Government? How can a free human (I presume that you are human) can utter such 5tupidity?

  6. Madam show some decency for once, because of your verbarism a fortnite ago in parliament ,people who should have a democratic right to belong any part of their choice are nursing injuries caused the brutality of your hired cadres to affirm your decree. Those cadres wouldn’t have acted the way they did if the instructions were not from high authority.People of copperbelt are already suffering enough for your Govt to add wounds to their misery.Just few weeks ago you & your Govt were screeming of being hollier than thau, calling for fake prayers, fasting & reconciliation. But God can not be mocked he is now exposing your evils the more after the show you put up as prayers on 18/10/15. Before the fake prayers you managed to you lie to people that you are humble, God fearing & that you have been…

  7. Mrs Wina, just stop talking more and more rubbish and take some action on creating the 500,000 jobs you have promised Zambians before 2017!

Or is that just another PF election “gimmick”!

    Be serious, we are SUFFERING!

  8. I can’t believe this. Please give us the verbatim. Post newspaper this is another field day. Just give these guys enough rope to hang themselves. Unbelievable!!

  9. ANOTHER MUMBI PHIRIE IS HER HON THE VICE PRESIDENT. HOW CAN THE SAME MOUTH CHANGE THE COURSE OF HER OWN WORDS? WHO CAN NOW TRUST HER AS AT NOW? BUFI AND IF I WERE THE PRESIDENT I SHOULD HAVE FIRED HER BECAUSE SHE CAN CAUSE CIVIL WAR IN THE COUNTRY. PEOPLE TODAY NEEDS PROPER DIRECTION ON HOW TO SOLVE THE NATIONAL ECONOMIC PROBLEMS. WE NEED FOOD ON OUR TABLES MEANING WE NEED EMPLOYMENT AND REDUCED PRICES OF OUR BASIC NEEDS.
    BOMA INONGE AMUTUHWELE KUBULELA BUHATA.
