President Edgar Lungu will on Tuesday, January 5, 2016 assent to the constitution amendment bill.

This is at a ceremony scheduled for the National Heroes stadium at 14 hours.

Permanent Secretary for Administration at cabinet Office, Margaret Miyoba has confirmed this in a statement availed to ZNBC news in Lusaka today.

Ms Miyoba has explained that the general public is invited to attend the ceremony.

And the PF Central Committee says President Lungu has delayed assenting to the Constitution Bill to enable him consider all divergent views in line with the tenets of democracy.

PF Member of Central Committee and Chairman for Information Frank Bwalya says the President’s action is a demonstration that he is a real democrat.

Father Bwalya was speaking in an interview with ZNBC News in Lusaka.

Meanwhile, Lungu has promised a referendum for the remaining aspects of the constitution.

President Lungu says Zambians will get a referendum once everything is in place.

The President has explained that the constitution will revolutionise how politics are conducted in the country, adding that this is an epic moment, as it calls for courage in doing things that have been dreaded in the past.

The Head of state says he is proud and ready to sign into law the collective will of the people.

President LUNGU was speaking when he addressed the nation on the eve of the New Year.

He said the year 2016 will be a special one in the history of Zambia, as this will be the first time that the country will be going to the polls, under the fifty percent plus one vote and presidential running mate provisions.

  1. HERE IS ONE OF THE COST SAVING ACTIONS ANNOUNCED BY H.E. MR LUNGU, NO FUEL, ALLOWANCES AND OTHER COSTS WILL BE INCURRED BY GRZ.

    • transporting all those cabinet ministers, bloated deputy ministers and his entourage will be a massive fuel saving for GRZ

    • @ Zed Chinese please guide to reference on the announced cost saving measure you purport! It would be a first. Better if all ministers had to drive to and from work in their own vehicles and only access government transportation while at office! Cooks and gardeners in their homes if paid by government should be redeployed to hospitals and boarding institutions’ kitchens while gardeners tend to grounds at government offices!

    • That is Edgar for you’.The clueless man is all about show. An act that can done at State House in 5 mins will not cost millions of kwacha in cash and lost man hours. it is not too late to do this at State House and have ZNBC and Muvi TV cover the event

  2. Thank God we have such as a grassroot leader. Such magnanimous decision and political will is assuring that our dreams are coming true. Hey, world over no single individual is a paragon of perfection. Successful leadership is built on humility and national interest. There is no Messiah on earth except Jesus Christ the sacrificed son of God. certainly there are people who will continue to stick out their necks with self elevated utopia, they deserve a space because they do so for the good of democracy.

  3. SO WE SHOULD ALL GATHER AT HEROES JUST TO WITNESS SIGNING OF THE “JAMESON AMENDMENTS”? WHY WASTE MONEY PUTTING TOGETHER SUCH AN EVENT. HOLD A SIGNING CEREMONY AT PARLIAMENT AND USE THE MONEY SAVED TO PAY A CLEANING COMPANY TO CLEAN THE TOILETS AT UTH! ALREADY WASTING MONEY ON USELESS GATHERINGS. BA PF KUWAYAWAYA FYE!!!!

  4. President Lungu is winning 2016 elections, Sata did the work for him. Zambians are not stupid to usher in a new party. Believe it or not Lungu is continuing this year 2016. Abo ba hh and upnd,ni mazabuka party chabe. I am not going to say much at the moment.

    • @kapoma kabaso: You Ar.sewhore! You are right “not to say much at the moment” because you that PF Hyenas including yourself will be going this year!! They have created enough mess and misery to Zambians.

    • @kapoma kabaso: You Ar.sewhore! You are right “not to say much at the moment” because you KNOW that PF Hyenas including yourself will be going this year!! They have created enough mess and misery to Zambians.

  5. The bible says you shall know them by their fruits look at the insults from UPND cadres they are full of nothing but hatred. Iwe ka @Jay Jay you are disgusting your mother never loved you.

  6. This president is wasteful. Why should he make the country incur such a cost? Most of us know that he will go down in history as having made good progress towards having a good constitution for our country but surely this move is utterly unnecessary.

    • Iwe chi dunderhead tabulate the costs. The function is in Lusaka and during working hours. And ministers drive to far places than from cabinet office to the stadium. So tabulate these costs. Don’t be whitewashed by the bitter ones. Your head is like a formatted disk awaiting for anyone to post anything they want on it…read, analyse, make an informed comment

  7. …to be signed at the stadium..???…there is a bit of some ‘childish’ touch in that……stadium just to sign a document…??…even if it is a supreme document of the land… ..heroes stadium..??…I cannot not just comprehend that…

  8. Awesome! Thank you God for such a humble President. I wonder how some can still muster courage to insult him for such humility. Thank you for the Constitution. Never thought this would happen during my life time. I wish I could be in Zambia on the 5th for this wonderful & transformative re-birth of this God given & God fearing Christian nation. God Bless Zambia!

  10. Uhmmm…..why is it that in Africa, especially, our Presidents are given so much reverence, unduly so at times, when they are simply doing their job, which is, ruling according to the people’s dictates, via the democratic channels?? We hopefully will have servant-leadership one day restored…..similar to the way our true humble forefathers began before the PIG syndrome (the Party and Its’ Government) got to their heads. Thanks to the Grand Coalition and all stakeholders who continue to apply relentless pressure, from as far back as ba Sata’s era. What makes us strong is our people, true humble and peace loving lot.

  11. You know? All you bitter chaps will condemn but the fact remains he will sign at the stadium and your bitterness will no matter. The guy has silently scored a positive, a massive one fo that matter. Some of you have a foolish and dunderhead way of analyse issues. So if there are cost saving measures the president cannot even interact with the public? What is costly about a minister driving from kabulonga to the national stadium and back. Are your empty heads thinking the public will be paid allowances for attending? Ala fimo just appreciate..

  12. The constitution was done when people where fast asleep and now that the contents suit the government they feel that it should be signed in the open, just sign it behind closed doors and save the people their time and money to come and witness the signing. Zambian people when are you going to wake up, stop being door mats….

    • if you knew they did it when pipo were fast asleep and you were awake why didn’t you attend useless. kabengele no matter how you post silly comments you will never succeed you are dull just like your HH who is full of lies

  13. Am suprised it appears Zambians, should be told what to see and believe! Are Zambians that dull? 2016 is a record beaker politically,! It will be an uphill battle for plot one!! The mood is palpable! May Gods will and not mans prevail in August!!!!

  14. I dont understand how some Zambians are ? The behavior of some uncivilized people for national disaster….The people cried for a new constitution its going to be given,50 + 1, presidential running mate,The president has assured the nation of a referendum, before the animals in upnd made a lot of noise crying for a new constitution and you are still complaining …..You animals, ungrateful fools…The bottom line is a new constitution
Ala ba under 5 take your wickedness ku upnd , you devil worshippers.
Positive step by his excellency the President of the republic of Zambia, Bravo its history in the making .
    Viva pf Viva ECL.

  15. FOR THOSE IN DOUBT WATCH WHAT HAPPENS
    1) THE GOVERNMENT WILL PROBABLY COERCE MOST LUSAKA BASED CIVIL SERVANTS AND LOCAL GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES TO ATTEND THIS USELESS CEREMONY. RESULTING IN LOSS OF THOUSANDS OF MAN HOURS IN PRODUCTIVITY AND GOVERNMENT FUNCTION
2)) TRANSPORTATION WILL PROBABLY BE PROVIDED FOR BY GOVERNMENT RESULTING IN THOUSANDS OF KWACHA COSTS IN FUEL. THIS WILL BE DONE JUST TO CREATE A WORTHLESS PHOTO OP.
    3) SECURITY WILL BE PROVIDED FOR BY ZP AND AT WHAT COST? INTEAD OF SPENDING TIME AND RESOURCES IN SOLVING ACTUAL CRIME THEY WIILL BE ATTENDING THIS USELESS CEREMONY.
    4) LOSS OF BUSINESS FOR BUSINESS HOUSS BECAUSE CONSUMERS WILL BE AT THI USELESS EVENT.
THE LIST OF COSTS IS ENDLESS. MAKE MATTERS WORSE THEY SCHEDULED ON WHAT SHOULD BE ONE OF THE BUSIEST DAYS 2ND…
