The Clergy has been encouraged to prepare their congregants and ensure that they elect leaders who will serve them as opposed to the ones who wants to become masters after being put into office.

Speaking during Let the People Talk program on radio Phoenix Bishop John Mambo who shared the platform with Fr. Lupupa of the Catholic Church said it was the duty of the church to ensure that their congregations are told to stop electing leaders based on blood and using their hearts.

“We want servants who will serve the people and not masters who will become arrogant once we give them the mandate to run the country. We want a President or MP who will understand that his promises are merely interviews by the people who will be employing him and the church must prepare the people when electing these leaders,” he said.

He noted that 5 years was a long time to have a leader who is arrogant and does not listen to his masters who are the voters.

And speaking during the same program Fr. Lupupa noted that leadership was about providing an environment that ensures equality in the country.

“Leadership is about providing that kind of environment were people are happy with themselves and government facilitating that the big cake that Zambia has is shared equally, that everyone gets what he has to get from that cake.

I would like to warn my congregation not to vote for people who are very bitter because a bitter person cannot make anything better. We want a President who will not be divisive, we want a person who is loving, we want an all embracing President or MP, somebody who understands what the people are going through, somebody approachable and you can relate to easily, that is the type of leader we want and I will spend a lot of time opening people’s eyes and telling them not to be bought by politicians,” he said.

Meanwhile some listeners who participated through live phone calls called on the church not to be by standers and watch the country disintegrate into arnarch due to careless politicians who do not know how to tame their tongues.

Elder Muludnda of Ndola said freedom of speech did not mean freedom to spite as has been happening of late were politicians are saying whatever comes to their minds.

He said there is need to ensure that politicians moderate the way they debate national issues and that the church should counsel those found wanting.

Another caller who identified himself as Sunday called on the church to strongly condemn the language used by information Minster Chishimba Kambwili when he featured on the Sunday Interview.

He said the language used by the Minister was provocative and should be condemned by all well meaning Zambians including the church.

If that is how you know HH, then you are very narrow minded. You need to open up your mind and look at all politicians to know what is being said. The Govt has been divisive, oppressive, arrogant and brutal. Is that HH? The Govt has borrowed without regard to what the technocrats and masses are saying and even using borrowed money to stabilize the forex markets, is that HH? The public media is serving the ruling party only, is that HH and is that what true democratic tenets demand? These are dictatorial tenancies which we need to root out right now. Look at Zimbabwe my friend, I don’t care who is in Govt, but as long as our principles are trampled upon, I will neither blindly support nor surmise.

  1. Edgar is such a leader. He might not know everything like some HH but he is humble and he favours poor people mostly. That is what I like about Edgar.

  2. Edgar is winning this year and we are burying HH. We are finishing him off completely. He might as well start campaigning for the position of a councillor.

  3. The clergy is anti PF and you and know he is supporting HH. He knows HH is humble in his heart despite his serious looks, un like Lungu who openly looks humble due hung over but he is a devil inside.

  4. Avoid HH at all costs. You will live to regret Hichilema’s tyranny. Look at how he herds his followers in UPND. Imagine that at national level?

  5. Grade 1 political studies exam

Please choose the answer below by marking the letter with X.

Which of the following Zambian presidential candidates is ARROGANT, DIVISIVE and very BITTER?
    A] Hikainde Hichilema
    B] Never Mumba
    C] Edgar Lungu
    D] Hidith Nawakwi

  6. Yes bishop mambo it’s important that people do that now the challenge I have with you is that you have never been constructive in anything even at ncc you failed the people after things stated to move it’s seems you enjoy the bad situation and later stat making noise saying things which annoys the suffering when are you sending the orphans in your organisation to China to study by the way it’s people like you and other funny men of God greedy politicians and business men use to make noise how is Zambezi portland doing .politics and politicians shame when are you going to lean why can’t men of God respect them selves very soon you will be attacked by chama lusambo mumbi etc depending on which side of the noise you make men of God turning them selves in to political clowns even the…

  8. History repeats itself. PF under Sata (MHSRIP) may not have been the best party to win the 2011, but the vilification he was subjected to through hired propagandists using ZNBC won him people’s sympathy. I am seeing the same thing for Lungu. The consistent negative reporting against him in certain sections of the media and the personal attacks he has received from the seemingly l-know-it-all-wealth-is-equal-to wisdom political opponents may just work to his advantage.

  9. I fail to understand how some Zambians reason. With all the damage that PF has done to this economy a normal person who even understands issues can still talk of voting for Edgar on account that he is humble! Just that! What puts food on your table? Uli chikopo sana iwe kolwe!

  11. All those who answered C are dull. You have failed a simple exam. That’s how you are going to even lose elections. The catch word on the question is BITTER and we all know a bitter candidate. You can now make corrections. Thank You

  12. I would have expected the two clerics to advise people to seek God’s advice just like the apostles in Acts 1:24 “Lord you know everyone’s heart. Show us which one of these two you have chosen “. Please let’s seek God’s face in this election

  13. The truth is Tongas have voted HH becoz of what he has done. in fact his record is extremly bad. so we are voting lungu to do what Tingas do. No Tonga vote in non Tonga land. Tongas for Tongas only

  14. We want servants of the people at your age you expect African politicians to be servants of the people sure that why I dont like people who are old and have outlived their usefulness

  15. some people are dull the question is very clear very bitter person between ichilema & EL. NOW explain your answer you will find that ichilema falls in all characteristics listed .

  16. Comment back all yo pfool haters the simple answer is: cccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccc

  17. Fr. Laston Lupupa and his fellow Jesuit priests namely: Fr.Godwin Mulenga SJ Chelstone Parish, Fr Charles Chilufya SJ CBU Chaplain and Fr. Chilinda St. Ignatius Parish are well known PF sympathizers. They line of preaching in Church is always questionable. We all know they have in many ways benefited from some form of kick backs to always speak well of the PF despite the suffering of their Parishioners. Is Fr. Lupupa blind to the suffering of the people in Matero Parish due to the poor leadership in the PF government? Is Fr. Chilufya not aware of the many problem at CBU due to poor PF policies. Recently ECL was in Chelstone Parish and donated some money towards the Church facelift without permission from the Archbishop of Lusaka. Remember the late MCS’s body was brought into Chestone…

  18. It was interesting to see how most of the candidates for the Grade 1 political studies exam answered overwhelmingly C, i.e. Edgar Lungu is ARROGANT, DIVISIVE and very BITTER. But after moderation, the Chief Examiner has given the exam memorandum (answer key) that the preferred answer was in fact A, for HH. Which means I also failed the exam cos I was also going to put an X on C:)

  19. Charles are you normal and blind. You can’t see the damage done to the country. Lungu is a wolf in a sheep’s skin. What did he do after winning, he first went to enjoy himself by giving himself a vacation and travelled around a lot. The whole year you can count how many times he was interacting with ordinary people in the street after they told him they are suffering he ran away, with no proper answer to their questions. Right now he is pretending to care but if he wins, he will be enjoying himself while you suffer for 5 years. Talk about his ministers very arrogant now they are apologizing, while Lungu seems unfazed, true sign of a very uncaring person.
