WESTERN governments plotting the downfall of President Edgar Lungu and the Patriotic Front should know that Zambia is a sovereign State and their meddling in the country’s politics will be considered an act of subversion, Tourism and Arts Minister Jean Kapata has charged.

And Ms Kapata has said the planned amalgamation of the opposition political parties and civil society organizations in the so-called ‘‘super secret pact’’ was doomed to fail because one of the opposition leaders in the pact would want to dominate the others.

Ms Kapata has warned Western governments allegedly financing regime change in Zambia that it was a breach of diplomatic etiquette for foreign countries to meddle in the country’s political affairs.

She charged that any foreign country that would be found to be sponsoring activities that were inimical to Zambia’s democracy and peaceful transition would compel Government to consider severing its diplomatic relations with such a country.

She told the Daily Nation yesterday that reports that some Western governments were plotting the downfall of President Edgar Lungu for transgressions he did not commit could easily strain the diplomatic relations Zambia was currently enjoying with these countries.

Ms Kapata said it would be irresponsible for foreign countries to start financing anarchy and chaos in Zambia in a bid to influence regime change, stating that Zambia had enjoyed peace since independence and would not allow what had happened in other countries in the region and some parts of Africa to spill over to the country.

She said Government would start closely monitoring some media mother bodies that were allegedly receiving funding from donors under the pretext of media development or promoting press freedom because there was a danger that such funding could be used to advance subversive activities in the country.

“We have been informed that some foreign countries are bringing a lot of money into the country to finance a programme code-named ‘Lungu must go’ so that there should be a change of Government after the general elections this year,” Ms Kapata said. And Ms Kapata said the planned grand coalition of opposition political parties and civil society organisations to defeat the PF in the coming general elections would not succeed because one of the opposition leaders was going to choose to domineer over other leaders.

He claimed alliances born out of convenience and without a common ideological agenda often never lasted and that it was likely that the pact that was being mooted by a senior retired politician was not going to succeed because President Lungu had given Zambians what they wanted and were ready to renew his mandate to continue governing.

Ms Kapata said Zambia had seen alliances including the one that was formed between the PF in the opposition and the UPND but could not last because one leader exhibited domineering traits.

  1. Irony! Kapata conveniently leaves out the role played by Mugabe to usher Lungu into office. We can all recall those nocturnal flights undertaken by Lungu to meet his mentor, Uncle Bob.

    • This dull woman as tourist minister?? no wonder Kenya gets all tourists. this woman can not even type a letter..

Lungu is not serious.. Let him go.

    • What about the Israeli Company that PF has hired that wants to rig elections? Just allow the opposition to campaign freely. Period!!

    • @The Prince
I agree with you completely. Proof is in the picture above. Someone else has to read and translate for her!!

    • How convenient for Kapapta to accuse Western governments of plotting PF ‘s down fall and yet evidence of PF ‘s failure is out there in the open to see. I think kapata has seen that PF ‘s chances of winning are very slim given the fact the majority of Zambians more especially those in CB have thrown in a towel on PF.

Kapata should accuse PF it self of plotting its down fall, because the party can not account for the mountain of debt it had contracted on behalf of Zambians in just 4 years. KK and UNIP contracted half of that debt in 27 years. What a shame!

Western governments are merely watching and commenting on PF ‘s worst Human rights record , which even herself knows its absolutely true and concludes they want PF out.

No Kapata, please get it clearly, its the Zambian…

    • No Kapata, please get it clearly, its the Zambian people who want PF out because they are fade up of a concoction of lies the PF is spewing day in day out.

The other day one challenged PF to account for every penny they borrowed so that people can understand where over $10 billion has disappeared to in just 4 years leaving a lot of projects un finished.

      2016 Viva UPND.

  2. Steve, if you`re still living in kuku land, then I suggest you keep your comments to your self. We all know who mentored Lungu, whilst Guy Scot was in charge. It`s no secret that the little cents and a ton of tricks from uncle Bob did the job. No wonder uncle Bob threatened Guy Scot.

    • she is not telling the truth, which western country can plot for the PF downfall? The PF has dug enough pits in their own path which they will fall into. That’s my point Kunda.

  3. Kapata, this PF government is composed of clowns and is a circus. You are going to be kicked out of power this year. Whether western countries are supporting opposition or not, is immaterial. We just want PF gone into oblivion. And when PF goes out of power this year, it will go forever and we shall never hear of them again. Atleast UNIP and MMD is even still existing, but as for PF, hehehe you wont hear of it again.

  4. Madam Kapata, do not worry about external factors e.g the Western World, your role as PF is to win over the hearts of the registered voters. Which country in the Western World can Zambia threaten over relationships, we need the western conutries for help, more than they need our help if any.
Regarding the alliance for the opposition, it will be to your advantage if it does not work, why be their spokesperson or prophet of doom?

    • And Kwambili is saying that the opposition is MAD! Here is real madness much closer to home!

Does this woman really know what she is saying? Does she really think Zambians believe such rubbish? A serious contender for Chinama admission.

This really shows just how incompetent this Government is. And how dull Lungu can be. Did he actually appoint this idjut as A MINISTER???????

If she is not fired with immediate effect there is absolutely no hope for PF.

  5. Jean Kapata, mobilise the party and sell your work to voters. Don’t start looking for enemies who may not exist as you may just end up creating some! Play the election rules to the book and tell your colleagues in your party including the President to get more organized and avoid empty and cheap talk just like this one! Election years are always sensitive and we tend to hear all sorts of rumours but for a government official like you to start talking like that when there are a government and party spokes persons just shows how disorganised you people are and how likely you can cause trouble for our country. Please whether there is truth in what you are saying or not, get down together with your colleagues and address that appropriately to avoid unfounded dangerous rumblings!

  6. When Sata said that he had useless ministers, he was right. Kapaa is one of them. How can a minister of Tourism be the mouth piece and talk about politics involving foreign nations? Why not let the party spokesperson or the minister of foreign affairs speak? In any case, PF is going. Which Western country can Zambia threaten? I call upon the Western countries to withhold their aid to Zambia GRZ until after the elections so that we see where this visionless PF will go. Didn’t Lungu go outside Zambia to seek financial help? Jean your future is finished.

  7. Which western government can be intrested in bankrupt country which only has Coppull as it’s survival??? Zambia relies on aid and borrowing and you think any one can be intrested in your government. Kapata you are truly a grade 7.

  8. someone verify this, may ZWD is not telling the truth…“Iwe Chanda mwaice, ala cilecitika mupati yesu teti u temwe. I ne ba President balileka ukumposako amaano. Tabalemposako amano pati activites ayengi yotulekwata. Bena babika Mumbi Phiri kwati e Secretary General. Ine bambika fye kwati ndimuntu fye mupati. Tabamwishiba Hakainde efyaba, boonse akatukaka, temntu ufwaya fyabuntuntungu iyo” said Chama.
Ninshi bakateka bengalayendela no munti uwaupwa elo nafi Dola (Silya) ifilisingo epofili? Ulya mayo tacindika mulume wakwe. Lekeni bakamupelefye ubulwele. Elo nga ba Post na ba watchdog baikata stoli…

  9. Ready to cut ties? Which Western country would lose or even shade a tear by cutting ties with Zambians. Go try & raise a Euro Bond in the East & see if you get a cent. Shut up & just do your job.

  10. Lest exhaust the tribalism issues.. We are not done, dont change the subject to another propaganda of Western Governments this and that.. Interesting article on ZR:

Citizen’s View: Tongas Are Not Tribal; Figures Don’t Lie Peter Adamu | January 13, 2016
When one reviews the electoral results data, it is not possible to pin-point anything uniquely different in the voting pattern of Southern Province when a candidate coming from the same region stands… Here are some facts:
In 2008 when RB (Eastern), HH (Southern) and Sata (Northern) stood, each of the three got the following results from their respective regions of origin (strongholds): RB got 74.46% from Eastern (and 20.79% from Southern); Sata got 70.47% from Luapula (and 4.78% from Southern); HH got 72.98% from Southern (with 1.30%…

  11. contd..
Furthermore, in 2011 elections when again, RB (Easterner), HH (Southerner) and Sata (Northerner) contested, the results from their respective regions were as follows: RB got 74.28% from Eastern (and 18.89% from Southern); Sata got 74.66% from Luapula (and 6.67% from Southern); HH got 72.31% from Southern (with 0.79% from Northern! and 3. 04% from Eastern! – much less than in 2008!)… Note that each candidate still got above 72% from their own regions just like in 2008 – so no change!
So where is this theory of Tribal or Region votes more pronounced or worse off for Southerners than other regions? I don’t see anything unique about southern region, apart from that they are even fairer to other contestants than other regions! You may wish to further review all Zambian election…

    • @ Mr Intelligent lndeed. Numbers and letters don’t lie. Keep it up. Zambia is not short of Intelligent people.

“Iam an intelligent man and I love intelligent people” – Peter Tosh, Lessons in my life.

  12. When you hear people in Government speak like that, you should that they are on the way out. With this kind of statements, I have no doubt that this PF Govt is exiting in August 2016

  13. first part:

  14. Hilarious. Code name – Lungu Must Go. I reckon this whole article reeks of internal subversion which messes with public morale. Just go easy on the threats in our name.

Time for the powers that be to look up the word PARANOID. Sadly you increasingly don’t need to look far to find the Lungu Must Go sentiment. Just ask the ones who have no idea what they are eating tomorrow, or are dealing with sub standard educational and health system, struggle to farm, cannot run businesses and homes impaired by power cuts and dropped value of currency etc… Walking or driving along filthy streets while watching cadres celebrate mediocrity might have more to do with voting patterns than foreign governments.

The blame game goes on. Pull a finger out and deal with the realities people are facing…

  15. Who killed Patrice Lumumba? The Western World! Who killed Kennedy, the West! Who toppled Saddam and killed him………hmmmmmmmmmmmm.

    • How on Earth can you put perpetrator of genocide with Lumumba and Kennedy to “justify” uneducated political and diplomatic failure masquerading as Honorable (lol) and Minister (lol, lol, lol) of Tourism?

  16. So mrs kapata it is okay for Israel and Zimbabwe to come and help rig the elections? IS THAT NOT POLITICAL, are these two countries not foreign? Please donot go and wash our dirty laundry in foreign countries; you in the PF are petty and childish and like imilondolole. You embarress us mwe.

  17. Everyone in this camp is panicking. Do the right this and do things right. Get organized. Dandy Crazy wont help this time…..

    • @ DePal, my view too. Just making noise on radio stations and querelling with people instead of mobilising the party and voters to win.

  18. This is interesting western countries have a long history of democracy if they see that a president in developing country turns in a dictator using the term sovereign state they kick him out.Ask Gadafi were is he?Who is Lungu ?A simple drunkard Komboni lawyer can be just ordered to pack and go no need of wasting bullets.PF Kuyabebele.Bankrupt Government with less than $1.5million in reserves at we are a sovereign state.lol lol.

    • @Sido Mark, much as international help is sometimes needed to solve some problems, I think it is not right to rejoice when Western Governments sometimes interfere to change governments. People may still suffer if that change is not well handled. What happened to Libya after Gaddafi’s over throw? The effects of Gaddafi’s over throw have led to more insecurity in North Africa, the Sahel, parts of West Africa including Europe itself. In Zambia’s case, we do not need such type of change as we are already democratic and Zambian people should be left to choose who to govern them. Every election year comes with rumors and they all sound too familiar but they have been heard and gone and Zambia has always remained peaceful!

  19. KAPATA IS IN THE MILES SAMPA CAMP. SHE IS ACTUALLY SENDING A MESSAGE TO THIER SUPPORTERS. ” CODE NAME LUNGU MUST GO” THE REBELLION HAS BEGUN!!!!

  20. Mr Intelligent, which party, the only political party in Zambia, believes that only a tonga should lead the uPMD? Or that it’s time for a tonga to rule the Zambia? uPMD.
There is actually nothing wrong with tongas as a people, but it is the influence of the tri…ball party uPMD which spoils their thinking. As a result which State House will remain a pipe dream!
Replace those tribal leaders (maybe start with GBM as president of uPMD) and new horizons will open up for you. I know, lusengo lwambwa!

  21. A secret coalition. Risible! Even their combined votes will not suffice.

Zambians are not blind and deaf in the mind, as it were. Imagine a coalition made up of Grand whatever, Madam Nawakwi (I can’t believe impeccable Edith would join into this madness) and the ‘Ones that only turn up when elections are called? What a disaster.

Leaders are not made out of elections. They must first be approved by selection and approval in the name of state preservation, by powers that be. Only President Lungu has this blessing on him.

  22. MATERO IS THE MOST POPULOUS AND POWERFUL CONSTITUENCY IN THE COUNTRY. EVEN WITH NO OTHER SUPPORT MILES SAMPA CAN BRING DOWN PF WITH MATERO ALONE.IT SHOULD BE NOTED TOO THAT AS MATERO GOES SO DOES MANDEVU. BY ALIENATING MILES SAMPA PF IS SURRENDERING LUSAKA. MILES DESERVES TO BE HEARD. EVERY CONCER HE HAS HIGHLIGHTED IS FACT. THE PF DIGRESSION FROM ITS FOUNDING PRINCIPLES IS BETRAYAL OF THE PEOPLE THAT ELECTED THEM. IF LUNGU IS SO CONFIDENT WITH HIS PERFORMANCE THEN HE SHOULD OWN IT AND CALL FOR A CONVENTION. OTHERWISE KAPATA IS RIGHT “LUNGU MUST GO”!

  23. PF cadres, now if Western countries want the president out, ask yourselves this question: Why has the west abandoned you? my answer: What do you expect getting into bed with the tyrant from across the Zambezi aka uncle Bob. And I assume the domineering leader she is talking about is Sata.

  24. HON HYENA HH TO WIN THAT CANT HAPPEN AND IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN.
DEVIL WORSHIPPERS PREPARE FOR A BIG LOSE WHICH WILL FINISH ULYA PALYA NICHI DEVIL~ UPND TO NO EXISTENCE
REMEMEBER 50+1 WILL HAMMER U TO ZERO
IM LUNDA BUT I CANNOT VOTE FOR A TONGA VERY SELFISH CHARACTERS
IF ITS AN ALLIANCE THEN PICK SOMEONE ELSE NOT A TONGA

    • Don’t claim to be Lunda. There is nothing like mwina Zambia in Lunda. By the way, what is “big lose”? Eyi wudi katotozhi.

  25. To that championing or supporting regime change, here are words from Emperor Haile Salessie:
“That until the philosophy which holds one race superior and another inferior is finally and permanently discredited and abandoned: That until there are no longer first-class and second class citizens of any nation; That until the color of a man’s skin is of no more significance than the color of his eyes; That until the basic human rights are equally guaranteed to all without regard to race; That until that day, the dream of lasting peace and world citizenship and the rule of international morality will remain but a fleeting illusion, to be pursued but never attained”.

  26. Mr intellegent go on and give us voting pattern for 2015 and see if Tongas are innocent. Give us votes for your god HH and lungu from south and East.

  27. This is interesting … a Minister of Tourism and Arts making such serious allegations. Where is the Minister of Defence and the Minister of Home Affairs? Or, as usual in Zambia, any government Minister can comment on issues that do not fall under his or her domain?

  28. Western governments are just jealous of President Lungu ans PF’s achievements. More so:
    1) Without Western ais
    2) With falling commodity prices, and
    3) Grobal economic melting

  29. This is typical of political parties upon realizing they are losing popularity with the masses, due to poor governance. They create a distraction, a boogie man to blame. Zambians are intelligent enough to do an independent evaluation of the ruling party’s performance. Thus if you get voted out, it’s not because some outside forces are behind the scenes, manipulating the people. It’s simply because you have failed to deliver the results. It doesn’t take a foreign entity to make us aware that our economy is doing bad. It’s something we observe, and experience on our own. Furthermore, accusations without proof are just that—accusations. So if you have any proof of a foreign country meddling in our political process, call them out and provide evidence. Otherwise your claims are…
