A 17-YEAR-OLD housemaid has narrated to Chingola magistrate Shadreck Chanda how she was allegedly raped and given a K2 by a Zambeef butchery assistant, whom her boss sent home to deliver some medicine.
This is in a case where Hendrix Chambale, 22, of 32 Kalungwisha Road in Chiwempala, is facing one count of rape, contrary to the laws of Zambia.
The girl told the court on Tuesday that she was on duty on December 2, 2015, nursing a sick child when her boss sent her workmate to deliver some medicine for the baby.
She said this was after she had called her boss to tell her that the child’s condition had worsened.
The court heard that when Chambale delivered the medicine, he told the maid that he wanted to see how the sick baby was doing, and the girl let him in without objection.
The victim narrated that after some time, the accused pushed her down and forced himself on her.
“When I was coming from outside, he pushed me and I fell down. He then pulled my skirt and pants and had sex with me. When I shouted for help, no one heard me. When he finished, he dressed up and gave me a K2 to buy Cafemol,” she said.
“Your honour, I don’t know why he told me to buy the medicine. But instead, I went to the shop and I bought talktime which I used to call my boss and explained to her what had happened. She then came home and took me to the police station and we were issued with a medical form,” she narrated.
The girl was then taken to Chawama Clinic where it was confirmed that she had been raped.
And the girl’s boss, Daphine Mate, told the court that she was at work when her maid called her to say that she had been raped.
“I sent Chambale, my workmate, at home to give my maid some medicine for the baby, and later she called me that she had been raped. I rushed home and took her to the police station. And after we were given a medical form, I took her to Chawama Clinic where the doctor confirmed that the girl was indeed defiled,” she said.
Mr Chanda adjourned the matter to a later date for continuation of trial.

  1. Castrate that chap. There are alot of prostitutes who are ready any time to give a service to whoever is in need. Let’s hope the young girl did not contract the deadly illness.

  2. The rapist is a brute beast who must be cagef for life. How can he rape a person nursing a very sick baby. Supposed a baby died.

  3. “R a p e is one of the most terrible crimes on earth and it happens every few minutes. The problem with groups who deal with r a p e is that they try to educate women about how to defend themselves. What really needs to be done is teaching men not to r a p e. Go to the source and start there.”

  4. This is one crime we all detest. Because of this a lot of innocent souls are languishing in jail. Its possible that Chambale could have been set up by his workmate & the maid. I hope there will be scientific proof that should go beyond just her word against his. When proved guilty beyond any reasonable doubt chitendeni.

  5. Iwe itizi how stupid are u taubelengele ati kuli medical report, such victim blaming is very primitive let the case be heard in court and if he is found guilty please government Hang the chap we need to respect women in africa they are our mothers.

  6. Rape is unacceptable but the law has to take full course on both sides, the article is one sided hence we all doing hang him to death theory but Itizi turu could be right too, medical reports usually show penetration evidence only and not rape its the courts to determine that. Her boss rushed straight to the police hen clinic that sound planned activity but again its just a guess. The gal left the sick baby to buy talktime sounds lame too again its speculative….it somehow sound Hollywood movie but make no mistake rape is bad and is sin period

  7. Well I don’t know about stupid but the medical report only proves the maid had sexual intercourse. It doesn’t say who had sex with her or whether it was forced. If you have any capacity to think you would understand that I’m saying we should invest in modern forensic investigations techniques instead of the current primitive methods our police are using. But then again Darwin had to recant some of his theories on his deathbed.

    • @itizi turu
Bushe, if it was consensual love making, why then did she report to her employer and police? Are you implying the victim has some dark vindictive agenda against the rapist? Sosa tumfwe.

  8. I don’t know, do you? I haven’t said there was consensual sex, what I am saying is in such matters in normal societies investigations would include dna tests to eliminate all doubts about a suspect. But here its “mukazi aka ku sonta ninshi akusonta”. In the above case two witnesses place the suspect at the scene of crime but does that prove that he committed the crime? Think. What would Sherlock Holmes do?

  9. Its also possible that the dispute arose when the guy produced a K2. Maybe the girl expected more for the services rendered but the poor fellow only afforded a measly K2 in this harsh economy. A normal investigator would look for some signs of struggle however minimal. Maybe pulled rugs in a pant. The maid says she was pushed & not threatened so there was some struggle.

  10. Itizi Turu, for the medical doctor to confirm that the girl was indeed defiled/raped, there was evidence of a struggle. Doctors are trained to tell if sex is forced or consensual. Stop blaming the victim and face the fact that this was a crime of opportunity, most likely this driver has had sexual designs for the maid and on this occassion finding her alone with an ailing infant was a perfect opportunity for him to implement his sadistic fantasy.
Madam from Zambeef Chingola, please bring sample of semen from hospital to Nkanza laboratory for DNA, so that we can fairly hang that rapist. Secondly after disposal of the case, send the girl for counseling to overcome the trauma of rape.
