Government has directed councils in the country to stop issuing new plots to people, with immediate effect.
Home Affairs Deputy Minister Panji Kaunda says no land application
shall be processed until the councils complete the backlog of applications.
Lieutenant Colonel Kaunda was briefing the press at Kitwe civic centre after meeting people with land complaints.
Colonel Kaunda said government is concerned with the rampant
corruption in the issuance of land especially on the Copperbelt which is being perpetuated by councillors.
He said there have been instances where councillors who have served the council for more than twenty years have no piece of land while those who have served less than five years have properties.
Colonel Kaunda said the government will not protect any councillor involved in the illegal allocation of land.
The Deputy Minister who is also Chairman for the Taskforce on illegal Land Allocation said government will repossess pieces of land which were acquired illegally.
For how long will you be saying the say thing? You know their corruption and it is quite easy to trace the culprits; their physical evidence available. It is time to shut.t up and take action. Learn from Rwanda or developed countries. It is exhausting hearing you make pronouncements every day without any concrete action.
Imagine ayi..!!! Empty threats always. We want to hear and see list of culprits appearing before courts waiting sentencing.
We have heard those pronouncements alot more. Not interest..! Just do your job Mr Minister,,Laws and rules are there already ,,apply them.!
At least PF are doing something about it. Time to take stern action against this type of thing, because it is a disgrace that citizens can’t even own land in their country because of crime by Officers who are supposed to look after their affairs.
i am yet to see culprits prosecuted.
these Councillors involved are ours and how do you expect us to discipline our own..
Why the worst rampant corruption of the worst kind only on the CB???.
What’s the difference with those guys who went to manda hill in pata-pata & now, four years down the road, are owners of fleets of cars. Or the guy who was wearing salaula belted-neck leather jackets who now orders straight from Gucci & Armani.
Come on Panji, as they say what’s good for the gander should be good for goose.
