Government lifts ban on the issuance of renewal and transfer of mining rights

Government has announced the resumption of the issuance, renewal and transfer of mining rights and non mining rights.

Announcing the renewal Mines Minster Christopher Yaluma said government had completed the mines and minerals development general regulations act of 2016 and that the Statutory Instrument No. 7 of 2016 is now law.

“In view of this development I wish to declare the resumption of the issuance, renewal and transfer of mining rights and non mining rights with effect from Monday 8th February, 2016 at 09:00hrs,” he said.

He also said government takes cognisance of the fact minerals are a diminishing resource hence has continued to endeavor able to formulate progressive legal and regulatory frameworks sensitive to the continually changing needs of a rapidly growing industry.

“I would like to state that current Mines and minerals development Act No 11 of 2015, aided by the mines and minerals general development general regulations of 2016 is a progressive legal and regulatory framework that will make Zambia a very prospective attractive country for investment in mineral exploration and exploitation,” he said.
