The opposition Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) has with immediate effect expelled its Lunte M.P Felix Mutati.

In a NEC meeting held on Tuesday the 16th of February 2016 at Konzani Gardens in Lusaka West area of Lusaka, the party resolved to immediately expel Mr Mutati for his double-dealing as he has been secretly working with the United Party for National Development (UPND) and is listed on a 2016 UPND official calendar as a party official. Mr Mutati is also one of the three MMD MPs that have sued the party over its decision to postpone the scheduled 2016 convention to 2017 when the term of office of current President Dr Nevers Sekwila Mumba expires.

It was noted in the meeting that when some MPs including Mr Mutati were expelled last year for working with other parties during the January 2015 presidential by-election, they were readmitted after asking for forgiveness and given a final warning. They were told that should they repeat any offences committed previously, they would be expelled without any further deliberations.

And MMD Spokesperson Raphael Nakacinda has been suspended by the National Executive Committee (NEC) with immediate effect pending investigations by the Disciplinary Committee into allegations that he has been working against the party.

The MMD NEC unanimously resolved to suspend Mr Nakacinda after prima facie evidence was presented in the meeting that he has received money to work against the party with known individuals. The NEC felt that Mr Nakacinda could no longer continue as Party Spokesperson with such serious allegations hanging over his head. The NEC resolved to appoint Rev. Reuben Sambo who is already a NEC member as Acting Spokesperson until Mr Nakacinda’s disciplinary case is disposed of.

The meeting also resolved by unanimous vote of all ten provinces that the discussions over the proposed alliance between the MMD and the Patriotic Front (PF) should commence immediately.

The meeting also elected 5 new NEC members as follows:

1. Mr Friday Kashiwa as Deputy National Treasurer
2. Mr Chilekwa Munkonge as Chairman Commerce, Trade and Industry
3. Ms Christine Mangonono as NEC Member
4. Mrs Rose Zimba as National Women’s Secretary
5. Ms Lisa Pasi as National Women’s Chairperson (previously acting)

The NEC meeting also resolved that any appointments of party officials by expelled former National Secretary Muhabi Lungu during the party wrangles in the past were revoked with immediate effect.

And during the meeting, National Secretary Mr Mwansa Mbulakulima apologised to the NEC for any misunderstandings his recent statements concerning the proposed MMD-PF alliance may have caused.

The communiqué from the meeting was as follows:

COMMUNIQUÉ ON MMD NEC MEETING ON 16TH FEBRUARY 2016

The Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) National Executive Committee (NEC) on the 16th of February 2016 met at Konzani Gardens in Lusaka West Area of Lusaka and resolved the following:

1. PROPOSED ALLIANCE WITH THE PATRIOTIC FRONT (PF)

The meeting resolved by unanimous vote of all the ten provinces that the MMD should commence negotiations immediately on the proposed alliance with the ruling Patriotic Front (PF).

2. DISCIPLINARY MATTERS

The MMD NEC unanimously resolved to suspend the party Spokesperson Mr Raphael Nakacinda with immediate effect, pending a disciplinary hearing. Rev. Reuben Sambo has been appointed as Spokesperson in an acting capacity.

The meeting also resolved to immediately expel Lunte Member of Parliament Felix Mutati for abrogating the conditions of being readmitted into the party after earlier being expelled in 2015. Mr Mutati had been given a final warning that should he repeat offences committed against the party, he would be expelled without any further recourse.

3. NEW NEC MEMBERS

The meeting also elected 5 new NEC members as follows:

1. Mr Friday Kashiwa as Deputy National Treasurer
2. Mr Chilekwa Munkonge as Chairman Commerce, Trade and Industry
3. Ms Christine Mangonono as NEC Member
4. Mrs Rose Zimba as National Women’s Secretary
5. Ms Lisa Pasi as National Women’s Chairperson (previously acting)

  1. Just as expected Zambian politics gets hot as we draw closer to elections! Come May after parliament is dissolved it will be chaos. Watch the space!

    One love

    • Bashimapepo with due respect, stop this insanity. You are politically butchering yourself in a fast lane of ruining a large opposition party. Internalize democracy now and best practices of institutional rules. Open up to divergence and opinion leadership, then only you will have a place in the history of Zambian democracy. FYI, ECL is not interested in an alliance that is done at the peak of the pyramid with shell of the base. You risk irredemedle failure with members aligning themselves to opponents considered viable. I think politics is not in your nerves or blood. The obtaining is dangerous and shameful.

    • By May MMD will be a shell and will bring very little value to PF-MMD alliance, remember in the previous election FDD had more votes that MMD.
PF will regret this marriage they are entering into with MMD.

    • Sounds like it was a civilized meeting.
Mutati is not important, that guy is such a weak hanging balls like that Simussa of PF. You can’t use them for anything except mu minister.

    • This pastor has sold MMD for a song. This is the same pastor who sold a house donated(in Riverside) to Victory Mission or Zambia Shall Be Saved Church. He so sold his own party for a vice presidency position. MMD is truly and completely finished. Mumba, recall the deal which you wanted to make over acquiring that Misambo house in Kitwe.

  2. Saves Mutate right. Felix is coward, he doesn’t know whether to support UPND or take over MMD…if you don’t stand for anything you fall for everything. There is no difference between Nevers and Mutate. They are both hopeless opportunists. This is the end of Felix’ political career

  3. Comment:I wil be greatiful if the mmd speed up with negociation pf. mmd merge. We want white wash no reran. No insults by the power hungry lets go pact.

  4. Well done Nevers Mumba!!its clear that MMD will be delivered to PF and RB promised before he went to Uganda on Friday that he’ll come and meet Nevers Mumba to solve MMD’s current problems!!THE WINNER HERE IS PF AS MMD STILL HAS STRUCTURES ACROSS ZAMBIA!!!FELIX MUTATI’S POLITICAL CAREER COULD BE OVER HERE AS WELL.RECALL HE WON LUNTE SEAT UNDER MMD WITH LESS THAN 50 VOTES DESPITE HIM BEING A FULL CABINET MINISTER!!PF GONNA WIN IN LUNTE!!GO PF GO!!”IFINTU NI LUNGU-2016″!!!

  5. Come 11/08/2016 Felix Mutati will join Patrick Mucheleka outside parliament as he cannot retain his Lunte seat under UPND!!FELIX MUTATI IS VERY DULL THOUGH HE PRETEND TO BE WISE!!BEFORE 20/01/2015 HE SUPPORTED HH BUT PRESIDENT EDGAR LUNGU WON IN LUNTE EVEN MINUS ECL CAMPAIGNING FOR A SINGLE DAY IN LUNTE!!!WHY FELIX MUTATI THINKS THAT HE CAN RETAIN HIS SEAT UNDER UPND IS BEYOND ME!!!REGIONAL VOTING FOR PARTIES WILL BE WORSE IN 2016!!EXPECT PF TO KOLOPA SEATS IN NORTHERN,LUAPULA,LUSAKA,COPPERBELT,MUCHINGA,EASTERN AND PART OF CENTRAL!!

  6. It is time for Felix Mutati to go to hell, selfish politician.

Tonga alliance, not in Zambia but in southern province!!!

  7. THE TONGAS WILL EVOKE A TSUNAMI, WITH THE HATRED THEY HAVE FOR SOME ETHNIC/TRIBES! THEY WILL EMBARK ON THEIR LONG TERM PLAN OF SLAUGHTERING OTHER TRIBES ESPECIALLY BEMBA SPEAKING PEOPLE!!!!

GBM, MUTATI AND MANY MORE ARE SACRIFICING THEIR PEOPLE!!!!!

  8. we knew about this during the day. this is the end of mumba and it is sad to see mmd being sold to pf. mumba yesterday never did anything tangible as he was waiting for lungu. like a small boy. but i like this pact because it is not a force to recon with it has no real tigers but only paper ones. pempenyenge

  9. This common in Zambian politics and in Sports associations swift way to deal with competition…where is your so called Christian Pastor Mumba??

  10. Good riddance. Good move. Felix, if you don’t like it, go hung. Fish out all bad eggs and let healing begin. Kudos Pastor Mumba. Iyi yena ni check mate ba Mutati.

  11. Saf enough he won’t even join upnd. People are scared of this tribal party because that understand the agenda of HH. He just want to use them as a bridge and later discard them. Edith will be soon appointed Pf veep. Watch the space unfolding…….

    • Dear Sir @15, Can’t you honestly for once write something sensible instead of insults all the time and tribal remarks? You are really sickening. You are taking the joke too far – well unless you are really a sick person.

  12. Mumba and his NEC members are laughable characters. The real MMD is a combination of PF and UPND aligned MPs period. I don’t even understand what this PF/MMD alliance Mumba and Lungu are talking is. They are both delusional.

  13. GBM and Mutati are traitors.
They have written their political Obituaries by associating with regionalists.
The rest of ZAMBIANS have not forgotten how regionalists voted last Presidential eelection. .
    The Fire Next Tlme.

  14. Knowing the quality of our politics the expelled will quickly join PF & be in the negotiating team Nevers will meet with, same old same old.

  15. HH has killed UPND.Pipo thot he was helping yet he was dedtroying it. The sadest part of it is leaving Tongas in the opposition. May wise thinking MPs swallow their pride and unity Tongas to the nation. Lungu has opened the door so that southern can go in so pliz MPs from south take pipo into the boat before the door is closed

    • Why do you hate Tongas so much? I have never heard Tongas talk about other tribes and I have lived with them here for several years. I wonder where you haters have come from all of a sudden.

    • Don’t worry Jitan, tribalism is only here by bloggers who are only a drop in the ocean. Out there, Zambians love one another dearly across all tribes. Inter- marriages have done a wonderful thing I tell you.

  16. Aspiring presidential candidate and his hand picked central committee are not aware of the existence of the “Rule of Natural Justice” !?!
Next step by Hon. MP Mutati: Judicial Review of the offending decision by the High Court.

  17. By the time the judicial review will be commencing, it will be mid june, so this is the end of Mutati’s political career.

  18. Felix Mutati behaves like a father who deserts a home. And when things do not work in his way,he comes back and pleads with the wife so that she accommodates him.He went and committed adultery with another wife.He has reakised how wrong he was.I feel the wife should not tolerate his behavour.Let him continue with the prostitutes he was going out with.MMD is just in a right frame of mind to kick him out of the party. He is not adding any value at all.He will just contaminate the house with the food that he has eaten from other homes.

  19. HH IS “SPILT MILK”

Let us move on with another leader, and forget about HH if we are to make it come 11 August. I have noticed bloggers still think of HH. He is used to losing, not winning. Time is running out. BB
